Revealed at the SCEJA Press Conference 2015 conference for TGS in 2015, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a collection of Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover, and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep A Fragmentary Passage. [sum]Exclusive to Playstation 4, this collection will be available worldwide December 2016, and more news about KINGDOM HEARTS III will follow this winter.
In the lead up to E3, Square Enix have graced us with a stunning trailer for the brand new collection. The trailer showcases the upgraded visuals for Dream Drop Distance, the world and characters of Kingdom Hearts X, and Aqua's brand new model has been revealed.

The character models in Back Cover look beautiful but aqua's isn't great imo (the rest of 0.2 looks sweet as hell)
also the trailer mentioned we're getting KH3 info in winter, so i'm assuming nothing at e3

I think Aqua herself looks fine its just the lighting is still kind of wonky to me ha, but yeah Back Cover looks way better in that department at the moment.
I'm surprised if we are really getting nothing about KH3 at E3? I guess we will see...

Honestly, starting to fear for the worst when it comes to the graphics. They've looked like plastic ever since they jumped to Unreal and I haven't seen any improvement whatsoever. In fact, I'd argue Aqua looks even worse than Sora did in previous trailers for KH3. I think someone at SE legitimately likes this look and that this is what we'll be getting.
It's really hard for me to get excited when something so trivial takes me out of it.

Terra?!!! that could have been an illusion! but look at how Aqua's body moves, such elegant, much flows like water, extremely beautiful
and those broken stairs/bridge, frozen in time, that she was walking on and sliding down on? That is one insane visually pleasing thing!
xChi looks amazing with those smooth beautiful graphics. I love the fact that it's not fully realistic, it has a different vibe to it. But to be honest, Aqua's model looks like it could stilllllll need sme work, on the skin and all, fine details y'know. Either way I'm SO OK WITH EVERYTHING AT THIS POINT *Ming face*

Yeah as much as I dig the Rebirth theory I am glad they have different voices and hope this means they at least have different faces as well. They can look different and still be connected lol.

I'm more thrilled this is getting a December WORLDWIDE release. If 2.8 is getting this treatment then KH3 will definitely be worldwide release.

Guys, I think it's time to accept that the models look like that on purpose and it's Kingdom Hearts's style.
It never was before, though. Neither the Disney visuals or Final Fantasy visuals look like plastic. The lighting on Aqua's face, for example, is way too harsh, making her look all shiny.

[/spoiler]It looks plain wrong. Also, you can't have super-detailed clothing-textures and then have that kind of skin texture, without any detail whatsoever.
This, on the other hand, looks nice.
Notice how clothing almost never is an issue, but it's always the skin. Think it's safe to say they're having trouble here.

Some things I noticed:
Command Menu instead of deck
The spellweaver spell comes back, has a timer for some reason
HUD is pretty much the same as KH3 (but its missing a slot below items)
Seems like you'll have to collect gears to fix the clock (and fix time in the ROD)

It'd be awesome if they could put a boss into 0.2 to showcase the amazing advances they have with the technlogy (so larger, destructible environments, a lot more happening on screen). It'd even be neat if they could bring that Shadow tornado from the KH3 reveal trailer to life.

The thing is, the models and lighting in Backcover are fine. I... don't know what's going on with in game footage. It's just shiner/glossier for no good reason. Is it the lighting? I just don't know. If they make everything look like Backcover though, then I'm not worried.

With how glorious Aqua's segment looks it makes me wish that it was a full game like originall planned. Imagine playing as Mickey or Riku or hell even Xehanort with those amazing graphics and combat and environment interaction.

That was my very first thought. I don't think Terra is actually there, but it's a physical manifestation of that moment from BBS. After all, time is weird in the Realm of Darkness.

Looks like Back Cover's gonna be even better than I thought. It looks damn gorgeous, every bit of it. Also, EPHEMERA. CHIRITHY. And the guy in the black coat sounds pretty young to be a "master of masters," doesn't he?
SPEAKING OF VOICES. Looks like these guys won't be following the Rebirth Theory to the letter, because the Foretellers all sound distinctly different from our current protagonist crew. Excellent!

I don't believe the guy in the black coat was ever meant to be the Master of Masters, was he? Or is that a fan theory I've completely missed out on? Cause Chirithy said the MoM disappeared right after he gave the Super Animal Bros their books of prophecy.

Did the Rebirth theory include the re-use of the "reincarnation" character's voices for the past Foretellers? I mean, perhaps I missed that details out, but even so I don't think the Foretellers must have similar/the same voices as their reincarnations to actually be connected in a way to them. For the connection between Ursus and Anguis, the resemblance to Terra and Aqua is striking, also because they are shown fighting and saying heavily similar lines (in terms of feeling and way of thinking)

Definitely Terra in some form, just what form remains to be seen and if she can meet a form of him, there's also the possibility of her meeting others as well.
Then again though, it could be just the world repeating events from before it fell to Darkness just like the sleeping worlds in DDD do as well.

Since the hype is mostly about 2.8., did any one notice that extra fire attack in the DDD segment? I don't remember that move in the fire command style/spirit link. Maybe we're getting extra attacks for the remix, or it looks different in a backed out camera.

Oh my God. I'm a little late to the party, but the trailer was absolutely everything I wanted to be. The most curious thing shown was the announcement on KH3 at the end. They could be saving it as an E3 surprise or still be showing us a trailer at E3, while actually sitting down and talking to us about it at a later stream or event, similar to how FFXV has been handled. More likely though, we won't see the game at E3, which is somewhat unfortunate, but at least they've been clear about when we are getting more news. As long as we're getting updates, it is hard to complain.
I think the most important thing shown in the whole trailer is that it'll release worldwide. This has huge implications for KH3's eventual release, as Square is taking strides to release their major games at the same time.
3D looks great, and I'm now truly excited to dive back into what is one of the best KH games (in my opinion, obviously). Back Cover looks fantastic, and I am so excited to sit down and watch it. Aqua looks amazing, and while I thought the lighting was a little strange in some places, overall I'm satisfied with the look. I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I actually like the way the game looks a lot. If people hate the plastic look so much, let your wallet speak for you and don't get the game.
Everything from the new reaction commands shown in 0.2, to the revamped spells, to the flowmotion and the dodge roll looks awesome. They answered a lot of questions and raised many more, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this. Heck, I haven't secured my preorder yet, but now I'm looking forward to it. Well done, Square, I could not be happier.

Well I can't say much about the US VAs.... but the Japanese Trailer VAs shown me that the Black Coat is the Same Actor. The voice actor for the Black Coat is Tomokazu Sugita, someone known for doing Serious and Silly Voice Acting. And the Silly One sounds like the Gintoki impression that Sugita does in Gintama... so yeah... same voice actor...
BUT the Voice Actor for Leopardos in Japanese is... (I can say this almost 90-100% I watched Gundam Unicorn)...

The trailer was great... I don't really understand the complaints about the graphics...? What do you expect them to look like? They have to render them in a way where they wont look super strange next to Disney Characters. Exaggerating the sheen and lighting was probably the best way to accomplish this.
We may still get a small teaser for KH3 during E3, but i doubt anything big will come.

The finisher of that style looks like he's dual-wielding, but actually there are just silhouettes of the Kingdom Key being hurled at the enemies, plus his equipped Keyblade (Divewing in the trailer) while being on fayaaaah, fire I mean
so, nothing new on that

Yeah, except for the fact that the graphics look MAJESTIC, I also expect HD DDD to have little to no new elements added. That's it for an already fully-planned and done game that is tranfered to a new console. The mechanics will change of course but the rest, not likely imo. DDD was one heck of a complete game. Also I SO missed this kind of threads and reactions to trailers and participating in stuff and ahhh ; w ; darn you, art university

The idea of him(her? Damn, I hate having no sound) being a schizophrenic person with differing personalities does sound somewhat intriguing I admit, but who knows maybe there are two hearts in the body that wears this coat and who is in control may change over the course of Back Cover itself or maybe even several times depending on circumstances.

I could go on complimenting how fantastic this trailer is but everybody else already took the words out of my mouth. Now, I'm more interested in X Back Cover than 0.2. for the simple fact that it's entirely new lore to explore.
The Japanese trailer has an extra little gameplay element missing from the English trailer.

Oh lord that trailer was freaking amazing. Its almost everything I wanted it to be. I am actually having a really hard time putting into words just how much I loved it.
As for the whole deal with the character models, I am pretty sure its a lighting issue. They look so much better here compared to the ones in the 2.8 trailer from December, so I think they have been improved even if they still aren't perfect. The game has several more months of development, so maybe they will modify it by the game's release date.

For the Japanese trailer at least, The voice for Unicornis is most definitely the same as Riku. And the voice for Leopardos is most definitely the same as Roxas/Ven.
The Black hooded guy at the beginning is different from the quirky one at the end with Unicornis.

While I think they look sweet right now, I agree. The trailer was not cut this week, those clips are older, so with 6-7 months of development left from when that piece was taken from the trailer to when we'll see the game only leads to a ton of improvement. I'm happy with the look now, so I can't wait to see how it has improved in December.

Also, "they" seem just fine with Sora and Terra being the names of guys. I don't think I've met a lot of male characters who were named that outside of KH.

When 2.8 was first announced I was originally looking most forward to 0.2 but now BC looks SO good. It looks so intriguing.
The Ursus foreteller is definitely voiced by Travis Willingham. I was trying to figure out why the Unicornis foreteller sounds so familiar, and I think it might be Nolan North!

I'm also already thinking about that as so far I actually was on the impression that Eraqus' symbol/Mark of Mastery emblem is more connected with the Nobody symbol which seems to be an upside down variant of it.
The Dream Eater symbols, especially the one of the nightmares, also comes into mind again.
Not to mention that zipper symbol also contains a blade in addition to sporting an "X"...

Well, "Lea" is a girl's name at least from where I come from but I won't rule out that it can actually be used as an unisex name after all.
Strictly spoken "Terra" is also a girl's name and they didn't change that.
Isn't Skuld an actual person's name taken from mythology while Ephemera normally just describes a phenomena?

I saw the trailer when it popped up, but I couldn't comment much bc of finals lol
But honestly that trailer was everything it wanted it to be and then some. The environments were beautiful and colorful, and the voice acting was solid.
After watching the trailer a whole bunch of times, I'm content with the models, and they look very nice! I think it looks off to people because we are so used to the ps2 graphics and the HD intros, that this look is throwing people off. IMO, i feel like the new style feels like a nice hybrid of both. The little excerpt about no KH3 news until winter is a bit disheartening, but its fine because for now its time for KH 2.8 and FFXV.
Also I watched the Japanese trailer, and the black coat dude in both scenes is totally voiced by tomokazu sugita. Either its the same person or they're just using one voice actor for 2 characters (sugita does have good range so its possible). The fortellers also don't sound like a 1:1 match with the main cast voice actors. They sound similar, but there are some differences.

Oh man, 0.2 looks gorgeous! There are so many words I could use to describe the visuals, but none do it true justice. Just...damn, it looks great! Also Terra popping up. Time doing wonky things in the RoD, not even memories are safe...this place keeps getting crazier by the moment. Just what happened there?
Not gonna lie, I wasn't sure what to expect from Back Cover as the first trailers were text with images of a DttH platform with the Union Symbols on it. But now I'm stoked. It looks so damn good, the voices are great, it literally feels like a KH Movie. Also, Black Coat guy. The one with Unicornis guy, he just shrugs off the whole war with an attitude like Xigbar's and I love it. That will be amazing to see. So much hype right now. So much hype.

Yup, Skuld is from Norse mythology.
I actually like the fact that they changed it to Ephemer, because in my third language, Romanian, written like "efemer", it's the male adjective for the English "ephemeral". Also in Ancient Greek "ephemeros" literally is the adjective, while "ephemera" is a Medieval Latin term for illness that lasts a day... and actually there are more meanings and interpretations as have been discussed in other threads already but then again, we know how the Japanese choose their names especially from languages like Latin. I definitely thought it was Traverse Town as well. At least the Back Cover movie looks more like a movie than the previous two. Granted, those were just already existing cutscenes, but this new one looks fantastic.

Before today I would have agreed instantly but that really doesn't sound like Mamoru Miyano. It's a similar cadence but it has to do with their Saitama dialect and not the actual vocal tone.

Gameplay looks rad. Love the heartless tweaks, additions. Is that winged/flamed one supposed to coincide with all the lanterns?
The city scape for CoD looks interesting. I'm assuming Aqua's 'vision' of Terra might be just a continuation of her daydreaming? She was staring at the stars thinking of her friends, so who knows.
I'm assuming Back Cover with the same engine as 0.2; it looks extremely well-made, almost CGI.

It still contains two playable games and a movie, and while 0.2 is brand new, it isn't a true full-length Kingdom Hearts game. Being that it was titled in a similar fashion to 1.5 and 2.5, it appears that they're treating it as the same sort of title. Don't get me wrong, a collector's edition would be nice, but I don't think we'll see one here. I definitely expect one for KH3, though.

Thought I'd make it a bit more clear that it's not Traverse Town, as that would make no sense, but also since like, it's Cinderella's town. Cinderella takes place in like the 1890s, they have lamps.

Definitely agree with you now. Upon watching the trailer initially, I just assumed it to be Traverse Town as I was watching for gameplay and other things, but you're definitely right. Makes far more sense for it to be Cinderella's town anyway.

I think that if it was going to be treated like a re-mastered title then it would have remix in the title like the others. There's really no precedent for 2.8. There's never been anything like it.

I'm also already thinking about that as so far I actually was on the impression that Eraqus' symbol/Mark of Mastery emblem is more connected with the Nobody symbol which seems to be an upside down variant of it.
The Dream Eater symbols, especially the one of the nightmares, also comes into mind again.
Not to mention that zipper symbol also contains a blade in addition to sporting an "X"...
That blade is what also has my curiosity. D:

Definitely agree with you now. Upon watching the trailer initially, I just assumed it to be Traverse Town as I was watching for gameplay and other things, but you're definitely right. Makes far more sense for it to be Cinderella's town anyway.
Yeah, I get ya. Traverse Town was definitely made with a Mary Blair palette and style, and she did most of the color keying and concept art for Cinderella and It's a Small World, so

Looking back at the voice clips for the Black Coat Guy in the English trailer, I think it's the same guy for all three appearances, he just uses a different tone when talking to Ira. There's a rough edge in the voice that carries in all three clips, been going back between the clip at 1:49 and the one at 2:17. The way he says "...and the Light expire" and "Nah, not possible" sound extremely similar, but with a different pitch. Might be the same as I see you guys discussing the Japanese one, same guy different range. Not sure who the voice actor is though, but he sounds really good.

So, I've come to the conclusion that the glossy plastic look is supposed to be emulating paint blobs and that this is, indeed, the intended style for the Kingdom Hearts series. It's growing on me. It looks better here than it did in the last KH3 trailer, Aqua's hair especially took a step up from the 2.8 announcement trailer.
In anycase, it looks like they've finished localization, they're done, guys. Those models aren't changing.

I'm actually pleased with the look. My issues were with the bad lighting and modeling on Kairi, Riku, and Mickey. Also the fact that KH3's battle models were incomplete.
Aqua looks great, except it can look awkward in certain angles.

What does the clock advancing mean tho? There's no actual flow of time in the darkness, right? So is anyone "forcing" time in the darkness to actually advance or did I miss something?

Oh my god! What a nice thing this was after an 8 hour long day at work. The visual, the gamepaly, Aqua, Back Cover, DDD HD. Simply glorious. Man, there was so many things in this trailer that I liked.
First, holy heck the visual style of the world in 0.2 looks good! It`s better that I could have imagined. The Cinderella world truly looks scary. Time is broken and it was a nice touch how the bricks were kinda frozen in mid air and stuff, like the rest of the town. I guess because the bridge collapses you go down to the village and then try to make up your way to the castle. Aqua sliding down from the bridge was awesome.
We knew this already from the other trailers and DDD, but man that world looks huge. But despite that, I got the feeling that it`s "alive" in a way. Like the plants in Twilight Town made the town look more lively, it`s kinda hard to explain. I feel like that the little details in the broken Cinderella world made it feel less sterile or something like that.
I feel like Aqua`s model could use a bit more polish, but this is a huge step up since the last time we saw her. But this is only a minor complaint. I really loved hos she tried to reach the starts... like a fallen angle trying to reach heavens from the depths of hell.
Also, the visuals of the spells looks freaking epic. You would expect that sot of power from a -ga tier spell. Also the stun is back like Launchapd said and that makes me super happy, and it seems that they will indeed integrate the command menu with the command style`s, and possibly with other things. Ooh, this is so exciting. I like how they still kept the shadows forming a massive wave from the first trailer. It will be an interesting fight.
Aanndd holy hell does Back Cover looks visually impressive! Just the shot at the black coat lad in the cliff, looking up in the sky in the wind. Man.... just look the grass move with the wind. The sky and the clouds looks marvelous. The actions scenes looked also really good and I am liking the voices of the Foretellers. Ephemra`s face looked absolutely fantastic.
I might be looking too much into this, but did anyone else get the feeling that the "theme" of this trailer was focused around time? One of the core parts of DDD was time travel and the DDD part ends with Young Xehanort`s clock themed Keyblade. 0.2 is played in a world were time is frozen, and it had that big close up to the castle`s clock. In Back Cover time is running out and the end of the world is approaching. Back Cover part of the trailer ended with the gathering of the other wielders and Ava near Daybreak Towns clock tower. Or that is where I assume the town square is.

I assume she meant that literally, the clock started moving and then [strike]things went to $hit[/strike] everything collapsed in front of her. Why the clocked moved? I don't know. I don't think time is completely stopped in the dark realm, just extremely distorted and it's not consistent.

Also, the visuals of the spells looks freaking epic. You would expect that sot of power from a -ga tier spell. Also the stun is back like Launchapd said and that makes me super happy, and it seems that they will indeed integrate the command menu with the command style`s, and possibly with other things. Ooh, this is so exciting. I like how they still kept the shadows forming a massive wave from the first trailer. It will be an interesting fight.
Aanndd holy hell does Back Cover looks visually impressive! Just the shot at the black coat lad in the cliff, looking up in the sky in the wind. Man.... just look the grass move with the wind. The sky and the clouds looks marvelous. The actions scenes looked also really good and I am liking the voices of the Foretellers. Ephemra`s face looked absolutely fantastic.
I might be looking too much into this, but did anyone else get the feeling that the "theme" of this trailer was focused around time? One of the core parts of DDD was time travel and the DDD part ends with Young Xehanort`s clock themed Keyblade. 0.2 is played in a world were time is frozen, and it had that big close up to the castle`s clock. In Back Cover time is running out and the end of the world is approaching. Back Cover part of the trailer ended with the gathering of the other wielders and Ava near Daybreak Towns clock tower. Or that is where I assume the town square is.
The theme was definitely focused around time. I think it'll be a theme through the rest of the saga, which is really quite fitting.

I wonder if with the reveal of Back Cover, we can see that Back Cover is not within the same dimension we are playing in Unchained X. What if Back Cover is what ACTUALLY happened in the past, and the Unchained X we are playing is actually just a replay with the book. This is just speculation though. I can't explain Chirithy with Vulpeus, unless you want to say that that is the original Chirithy in Back Cover (because we only saw one).

-Models look pretty cringy
-Gameplay looks like a pretty nice mesh of BBS and KHIII. The sliding seemed kinda like Flowmotion to me.
-ROD scenery looks pretty or maybe it's just the Cinderella vibe
-Don't care for the Foretellers' schoolyard drama
-Only really interested on finding out the identity of the black coat individual(s?) One seems obvious, the other isn't.
2016 looking pretty good for worldwide release. Can't wait for more stuff on KHIII. The idea of more recycled scenes, Rage's Awakened theme, and more chess playing with maybe a new scene of Xehanort getting up to use the bathroom really excites me.

Yeah, fighting against a future that seems to be "written" already/some sort determinism seems to be the theme.
The bridge collapses after the clock moves forward after midnight, right? In Cinderella was it that the spell will be broken around midnight, maybe they are playing with that theme sort of and that is why the bridge collapses.

The "Now in Development" line missing is one of the reasons I guess we'll get something rather big in Winter. Hopefully.

Every day this week Square Enix has released info on the games they're bringing to E3. Final Fantasy XII HD, World of Final Fantasy.
And they're not the only ones. Horizon Zero Dawn got a trailer and release date, Watch Dogs 2 got it's premiere today, the new game from Volition was announced.
It's very common for companies to release information before E3.

Just got up and watched the trailer, and everything is absolutely fantastic!
I don't really care about the Dream Drop Distance sections--or Dream Drop Distance itself anymore (so I won't waste time talking about it here)--but 0.2 and Back Cover have me so psyched!
Everything looks absolutely gorgeous. And the combat looks like a lot of fun and even a challenge. I'm very curious what's going on in the Realm of Darkness. And was that Traverse Town we saw after Castle of Dreams?!?!?!?!?
Anyway, 0.2 is already making me feel more sorry for Aqua than I ever did before, so kudos to them for that. I just felt like if BbS had done things like Everglow did in this video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRr_porQN_g)--where memories of Terra and Ven start playing in Aqua's head after their falling out, but in a sad tone and almost as something she's fighting against--I would've appreciated her struggles more.
But this really seems to be capturing her feelings marvelously! I wonder if Terra really is there somehow (a manifestation of him, perhaps), or if it's just her memories of him. Probably the latter, but even that could be exciting!
This is the Realm of Darkness and not the Sleeping Realm, so perhaps her recollection of him can be twisted into a false representation of what happened that hurts her. Something along the lines of, "Despite you saying you had the same dream here, you rubbed it in my face that you'd accomplished yours later! You created the wedge between us, so everything that happened to us is your fault!"
Also, Willa Holland's Aqua has improved so much. So much.
Back Cover. Oh my gosh, Back Cover!
So first off, Unicornius is seeming a lot more important now. He also seems a lot older than he appeared to me in Chi/Unchained Key, but I guess that's to be expected.
But there are some very interesting things happening here! Kind of wish they hadn't spoiled the dandelion plan of Ava's, but SE always spoil their games in trailers, so...
But this whole thing just made me so happy! Ephemera, look at your beautiful face! Look at all of your beautiful faces (mostly behind your masks. Haha).
I'm really loving the voices of some of these people, and am really curious about who some of these actors are (and the fact that they're different from our main cast, does that mean the Rebirth theory isn't true, then?).
Totally shipping Ava and Ephemera even more now, by that one scene between them;)
And by the guy in the Organization cloak's mannerisms and voice, I feel like he's the sixth apprentice and Sora! Or, Sora's opposite I should say, as I think that's where Chi is going at this point.
And it's interesting that Ursus is the one saying that they need to stop listening to what the Master said, because I'd think that would be Leopardus--who thinks the darkness needs to be protected--as Urus cares more about power than anything else.
Actually, come to think of it, that scene in the trailer almost makes me think of something that could've happened between Terra and Aqua in BbS if things had escalated.
And can I get an amen for the NPCs that Ava was talking to at the ending there, for how great they all looked. I know that scene happened in Chi, but this movie seemed to be working even harder with it and I'm impressed by what I'm seeing there:)
I'm so ecstatic. So very ecstatic. Back Cover is shaping up to be a great movie, and I can't wait to see the whole thing unfold!
And here's hoping this trailer has FINALLY convinced a lot of people--even some KH diehards!--that KH Chi IS SO VERY IMPORTANT and that they need to give it a chance in some way.
What a wonderful thing to wake up to. What a wonderful thing this was!
Edit: Forget my stupid question about Traverse Town. After rewatching the trailer, I realized that, of course, isn't the case. Haha.
Also, the shadow of that one person on Ava's dress at the end! So much beautiful detail is being created with the Unreal 4 engine in these sections. So much detail!

Wow, sucks that I didn't check this morning lol.
When the trailer went through DDD I only thought I was excited at that point. Then BAM!! 0.2 graphics were just amazing! The gameplay was awesome and it really has me psyched since it's just a taste of what we can do in KH3. Finally the Ux Back Cover took me by surprise the most. I don't know, I just didn't expect that the full length movie would be in the upgraded graphics. I thought it was going to be similar to Days and Re:Coded. And actual fight scenes!?!? Finally they're making it right!

Back Cover was the highlight of that trailer for me! Everything looks very well produced and looked gorgeous. I just hope that in the final months of production 0.2 can get closer to that and 3 is on par if not above. And The disciple of Ursus is definitely Travis Willingham and pretty sure Matthew Mercer is Unicornis.

I really cannot wait for this to come out! As much as I love 3D, 0.2 and Back Cover are the things I really want to get to. I tried playing KHUX, but I just can't get into the game on the mobile. I tried to become more involved in the story at least, but I still am confused, so I definitely think the movie will clear things up for me. 0.2 is just gorgeous and I am so excited to play as Aqua again. She was my favourite in the TAV trio.

It is the same man. It isn't obvious in the English trailer but the Japanese trailer certainly clears it up.
It is not Lea nor Eraqus. It isn't Young Xehanort either considering how deep the voice is.

Xehanort can only time travel to a point where another version of him exists, which is not the case in Back Cover.

Doubtful. People simply can't travel this far back in time, that's not how time travel works.
It may not even be time travel at this point. I'm of the assumption that Chi and Unchained aren't actually in the past in the form they are being presented to us. After all, Daybreak town is pretty much missing at this current point in the series, so perhaps it was swallowed by the darkness; which would potentially make it present in the Realm of Sleep.

If it were Lea, I think we'd all be able to tell simply by the character's build. This one doesn't have the same minor details, so I think we can rule that one out.

The only character with pants and shoes that are distinctly different from the others is Roxas.
Well, you also have the heeled boots that Larxene and Xion wear, but it's safe to rule those two out completely for now.

I don't consider myself well-versed in the Unchained storyline, but I did see someone here earlier today mentioning that there might not be a traitor amongst them and, instead, we're dealing with a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If that is the case, then it would make the Grand Master being evil all the more interesting, since it would imply that the Grand Master planted seeds in the minds of the Foretellers (performed Inception, if you will) to ensure a war. Who else do we know has done similar things? That's right, our boy Xehanort.
Is the Grand Master Xehanort? Definitely not. But perhaps Xehanort has a bit of Grand Master inside him instead.

I'm thinking chaotic neutral with this character. If he is the master of masters he might see himself as a god figure. I'm sure he has motives that we'll get later, some complicated end goal, but for now it feels like he's playing in a sandbox world and causing a war to make things interesting.

Dialogue is still shitty but man, the Aqua segment still gave me some "feels" as the kids call it. Looks gorgeous and it looks cool exploring the fallen Castle of Dreams area. Cool taste of what's to come with III.
Also the x segment was cool. Dialogue was still corny there, but the actors are turning in good performances. That's Travis Willingham (the current voice of animated Thor) as the bear mask guy (never cared for x till now so I don't know the name, don't bother correcting me).

Something I noticed. Those are NOT the stairs that Aqua met Terra on in BbS. Those are the stairs leading outside. Terra also didn't call Aqua's name there, he called her from the top of the stairs.
Whatever is happening... it is not a total repeat of what happened in BbS.

Earlier today I thought of the following: maybe the worlds that ended up in the Realm of Darkness act the same way as the sleeping worlds do and project their memories. Perhaps Aqua walking through the castle area connects her memories with the memories held inside said world, making Terra appear, just like he did in BBS.

KH3D's music was already orchestrated and or synthesized in HD similar to a lot of BBS's music so I doubt they will bother with reorchestrating it.

3D's music was beautiful, some of the best in gaming, and doesn't need touching up in my opinion. Now for 0.2, I'm confident we'll get a new version of Dearly Beloved. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same as the one we'll get in KH3, but seeing as they are separate games and they are seemingly tonally different, I would imagine we get something brand new for both. Don't be surprised if you don't hear it until you boot up the game, though. I think it is also a safe bet that we'll get some other new music for 0.2 as well, if not remixed versions of older tracks to go with the new versions of the worlds in the ROD. I'm definitely hoping we do get new music, though, but won't be upset if we don't hear it before launch. That kind of stuff comes so nicely as a surprise.

I'm feeling pretty hyped for 0.2 all things considered. Aqua's my fave and the idea of exploring the Castle of Dreams after it has fallen to darkness is starting to cause all sorts of imaginary scenarios I had about the Realm of Darkness after playing the first KH a decade ago to resurface. It feels somewhat full circle for us to spend the immediate prologue to KH3 that way. Suffice to say, I feel a lot better about it then I did when it was first announced.
I didn't care as much for the Back Cover portion. I just get the feeling there isn't much to the story there and the trailer skimped on giving us anything substantial to think about (other than playing who's that voice actor). I dunno, everything about the X plot is predicated upon the same mysteries and the same inevitable twist and we're on the third iteration of it now and we're still wondering who (yet another) Black Coat is. Yawn. I do hope Ursus is Travis Willingham though. He's great.

Back Cover most likely will get the version from X[chi]/Unchained but for 0.2 it is certainly possible there will be a new variant.
Who knows, maybe it'll be a mix of the BBS version and the new KH 3 version and once we get the true KH III version we can go "wait, parts of that were already in 0.2".

Not necessarily. Notice that battle items are a thing in 0.2, so treasure chests might solely consist of potions etc.

Unfortunately it still looks fairly linear and there won't be much exploring.
From here you can see the fountain where all those enemies are found. And in the distance you can see the archway where Aqua fights the shadow horde.
But hey, we have that really long road to travel before we get to the steps and encounter Terra.
And that's STILL before we meet Mickey Mouse.

If it's playable on the showfloor, it's possible everything of 0.2 we saw in the trailer may be just what is available at the event.

I dunno about that, I'm more inclined to believe that X Back Cover would have a new dearly beloved. The X/Unchained X Dearly Beloved is too upbeat for Back Cover. As far as 0.2 goes, they're probably going to have a variation of BBS Dearly Beloved.

Here is what I noticed...
In some shots there is a "#/5 Gears" thing but it's not always there. My thought is it will start out with us in the forest in front of the castle where the path collapses. Aqua notices the clock seems to correspond with the collapsing and then finds the clock's gears are spread out across the place. She discovers hitting each gear (because that's how nearly all things work in KH you whack them) causes the gear to turn, which affects the clock on the castle, and causes time to change. In doing so parts of the world collapse/reform in response, changing up the area we get to explore/adding new areas-paths for us to take. With Aqua's goal being to hit 5 gears which will in a sense "rewind" the world to before the bridge collapsed allowing her access to the castle.
After dealing with a hallucination of Terra and a boss (which might even be a corruption of her memories) in the castle she will continue on leaving the place behind, ending up in a more generic realm of darkness area, and that's when she meets Mickey. She ends up believing he is a hallucination as well, having already been deluded by Terra, and Mickey can't convince her otherwise. This leads Aqua to splitting off from him and then they never run into one another again, leaving Mickey saddened by his failure to help her.
And that sounds about the length of one world to me.

Yeah, it seems little linear, but there still it looks very promising to me. Most of the levels in KHII felt and looked very flat, and that was one of my biggest problems with that game. There were no high differences, no platforming etc... Now in 0.2 you have depth and it is much more interesting to descend into a village and then climb back up towards a castle. It reminds me of Hollow Bastion again as you see the castle it self looming in the distance and start climbing towards it.
I wonder if we get to explore the woods near castle, and the castle itself. The staircase scene with Terra probably means that we will get inside the castle. I wonder how huge it will be this time around.
Hngg, I want to play this so bad.
Also talking about the combat, the spell that appears and uses triangle, was it discussed that is it a tundaga spell, or something connected to the lambs surrounding Aqua? Like it`s an element from DDD`s flowmotion attacks where you could use the lamp posts and etc... to launch a more powerful attack.
Also, gotta say that the lamps giving little light in the night really set the mood of the level. I really like that.

DDD's worlds were incredibly linear but they made up for it by each area being huge with lots to platform and explore. I think as of DDD they've figured out how to make a good balance in their world design and more or less perfected the mix of KH2's A to B (which I will argue was more convenient gameplay wise than KH1's maze-like design) and KH1's depth/actual world-yness.
All they really need to work on now is having doors we can enter to small rooms, and NPCS oh for the love of god they need to work on the NPCs. They could get away with it in DDD because hey "dream world it's empty and lonely" and they can even get away with it here in RoD because "realm of darkness it's empty and lonely" but no way can they ever get away with it in KH3. You can't have San Fran tokyo be a ghost town for example.

The only time it wasn't locked was when Cecily and I found a 1.5 station at Sony's booth and it was essentially the full retail game. We were able to pull the trophy data, watch a lot of Days HD Theater, and it was awesome.
After that they've only ever brought demos to E3 8D

The only time it wasn't locked was when Cecily and I found a 1.5 station at Sony's booth and it was essentially the full retail game. We were able to pull the trophy data, watch a lot of Days HD Theater, and it was awesome.

I still think that they're only showing us the entrance of the castle (and the Terra part) to show the early part of the game. I know Nomura said that the game will have one world length, but he doesn't say wich world. Could be the length of Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden on KH2 and it has huge. I still thinks that this is just the beginning of the level.
I mean, Aqua is at the end of the brigde, close to the castle and still has possession of one of those gears.

I'm loving the look of the RoD version of Castle of Dreams. It looks like a crazy painting brought to life at the start and an elegant yet dark fantasy town in the town portion.......I wanna be there.
I have a gut feeling that it isn't just going to be The Castle of Dreams present in The Realm of Darkness. 0.2 may have Dwarf Woodlands and Enchanted Dominion culminated too. It'd be a humble nod to Walt Disney's Princess of Hearts locations (plus, we may see a Ven flashback/mirage in the hypothetical Enchanted Dominion).

*Just got back from camping, so I FINALLY saw the trailer today*
Holy freaking crap, I'm excited! I'm a little disappointed with the lack of the Command Deck, but the gameplay is looking very interesting, especially with how she will be performing certain moves. It's definitely going to be a game that I'll need to play for myself to see how it works because it is kind of hard to tell just by watching it.
That Terra shot tho (although I'm pretty sure it's just an illusion/memory)
The visuals are gorgeous and I am loving the town that you get to explore. And the KHX scenes look absolutely fantastic! I'm actually very hyped for that and it's so cool to see non-chibi versions of those characters and to hear them speak. I'm also very hopeful that the scenes for KHX will play out more like a real narrative/short movie just because there's no real base cutscenes to just copy + paste from like 358/2 Days and Coded scenes from previous HD collections. And that Keyblade fight :D

There are pictures and videos of this guy handing out canned goods to the poor near the movie set during filming as well as cleaning up the mess that some of the more action-filled scenes caused, all in costume. Heck, he visits kids in hospitals in costume as well. I wouldn't put taking less money to do something cool for Disney past the realm of possibilities.

I can certainly believe it if it was true. He is definitely a really sweet and kind man not just from the examples you provided but from what I've seen about him. He also cares more about the art of acting than the fame and money attached to it.
And less related to his noble and selfless character, he has done voice acting before. He played his characters in the Captain America & Fantastic Four video games.

Fair point, but I don't know if I really see it as a normal enemy either. I guess more like an mini-boss than a common enemy would have been a better way to phrase it. It could be some new enemy mechanic where hordes/stronger versions of them pop up very occasionally throughout different worlds. You could totally be correct though, but based on what we've seen from the one KH3 boss fight shown, and the fact that we've seen these in the streets of another world already has me thinking that they aren't quite a boss, but aren't as common as standard heartless either. I would totally be down for an occasional "event enemy" that's periodically triggered by you doing something in the game.
EDIT: I don't think they'd show us the big final boss in the trailer and spoil it beforehand, either.

Phew. At times I am terrible at explaining my own thoughts.
Going back to the trailer, I think that when Aqua blocks the Heartless swarm, it breaks down. It`s nice that the we are gong back to the style where you have to read your enemies movements, and then block at the right time to open them up for an counter attack. I think DDD did not have a lot of that, so I am glad that it seems that we are returning to it. I remember reading that Nomura said in a interview during last year`s E3 that the timing of the attacks and etc.. will be important.

Says who? Aqua was wandering in the Realm of Darkness for a dozen years, she could have stumbled across that castle at any point before the conclusion of KH1. And - likely, it was just before the conclusion of KH1 when Mickey was in the realm of Darkness.

I think the promotional banner would look better if Sora and Riku weren't put in the most random of spots. Everything else isn't that bad. Hopefully we get some high quality images from someone when E3 actually begins so we can judge it better.
Sora and Riku do break it. Not only are they in the worst positions (would it have been so bad to have them vertical on either side, with Sora going down and Riku up rather than diagonally) but the contrasting art styles look weird when placed side by side.
But thankfully we have another mystery on our hands thanks to whatever is in the background that is not the Hooded Figure lol

What does the clock advancing mean tho? There's no actual flow of time in the darkness, right? So is anyone "forcing" time in the darkness to actually advance or did I miss something?
imo it's just a nod/reference to the movie. (You know, the magic vanishing away when the lock strikes midnight and such)
Simple: it's the oldest manmade Keyblade that happened to be fused with another blade. Or perhaps something else happened to alter its appearance. Keyblades ARE influenced by their wielders' hearts, after all.
It does not even have to be another blade this particular Keyblade has to be fused with.
It could also be something different that was fused to (or rather into) the blade, maybe something like a heart.
Remember how in the Final Episode of BBS when Aqua fights Terra-Xehanort the Goatblade always vanishes from Terra-Xehanort's hands when the Guardian is active and returns when he performs a Combo on Aqua (but then the Guardian vanishes for the duration)?
The two big appendages on the Guardian's head can be interpreted as tentacles or antennae, but they could also symbolize elongated horns and/or a mane..

Sora and Riku are very oddly placed to me. And it looks like they fixed Mickey's face a little... his cheeks still seem flat though. And man, I was so excited for that Aqua medal.. until I saw the art for it.

Because I'm not sure what else a whole bunch of keyblades spawning from a single point could mean. And if we go by what Yensid/MX said, that the keyblade was made by people to conquer the light/take control of KH I think we can understand what that keyhole is meant to be. It probably represents the "Final Keyhole" that was only ever briefly mentioned in KH1, the keyhole that needs to be unlocked to gain access to Kingdom Hearts. In BBS vanitas alluded that the X-blade actually has to open a door of some kind to access kingdom hearts....Xehanort said that a lot to.

Well, Xehanort's keyblade is the first man-made keyblade. But every keyblade is an imitation of the X-Blade. So, I don't know if you could really say that all keyblades came from Xehanort's keyblade, when technically all keyblades came from the X-Blade, as all of them were made in an attempt to imitate it.
Also, Xehanort's keyblade is not the keyblade that unlocks Kingdom Hearts. Again, that's the X-Blade. Although, we do see him summon that blue KH in BBS, which has always been discussed among the community as a potential plothole, since only the X-Blade should be able to do such a thing. Perhaps the Foreteller keyblades are special and we'll finally learn this in Chi Back Cover?
I think you could if the first keyblade is where the ceremony comes from. Man creates keyblade in an attempt to create X-blade, finds the power of it can be shared, and shares the keyblade with people who share it with more people and thus all the other keyblades crop up from that first one.
My favourite thing in the whole wide world is Nomura saying DDD and 0.2 were taken from his plans of KH3 because it would have been too big for that game. I laugh in the face of people who for some reason are still pissed DDD exists because it "delayed KHIII". Bitch it practically was KH3.

I've always just looked at it as practically being KH3, but I like how even he is calling 2.8, not just 0.2, the prologue to 3. I mean, Final Chapter Prologue is even the game's title. I'm unsure how people can see it otherwise.

+ If yes, then it's super duper relevant no ifs of buts about it.
+ If no, then while it might not be moving the plot forward, it's probably filling in details you'll want to know moving forward into the games, best not to skip it anyway

Chain of Memories is... its own special case. I often wonder whether it was intended to be important or not from KH2 onwards, but it became more relevant overtime.
2.8 is SOOo important that it gets its own 60 minute CG spectacular. How can anyone not get this game, look at Aqua and her amazingness. You've got a slice of KH3 at your fingertips. I'm conflicted on the $60 price tag, but I'm conflicted for people less enthusiastic than me cause I'm gonna buy it anyway.
Haven't preordered yet though... they always like to throw in last minute collections and stuff.

I mean, 0.2 in and of itself is the opening of 3. I have no doubt that it'll end in some kind of cliffhanger-y fashion that will lead directly into KH3. We're more or less getting a slice of KH3 cake with 0.2. No secret message required. The whole game is the secret message.

Lazy PR. I believe some KH trailers so far haven't had a true "direct-feed" video and the guy at gamersyde has said that Square simply doesn't make them available a lot of the time.

Hopefully! As I'd like to book my holiday leave and I can't do that without knowing an official release date for the UK! Fingers crossed we get something there which confirms the actual release.
