Well, so much for the recap being "several hours long". But it's probably for the best that they're shortened like this, unless these are just previews of the actual videos? I couldn't really tell since everything was in Japanese. But, also:

1) I really want these books to be real. I am a sucker for fancy-looking books.

2) They... skipped KH2? How odd. They gave full episodes to KH1, CoM, and Days. And then did one about Riku's journey up until KH2, and then a quick recap of Xehanort's plans along with some BBS stuff. So, no KH2, Coded, DDD, Chi, or 0.2. Huh. I get that they still want people to play the games, but I get the sense that you probably still wouldn't get too much out of these if you were a newcomer or a casual.

I don't believe any lying, did anyone mess up translation, sure they were supposed to be hour each and as Nazo said, missed more of the games including KH2. sure we got that Roxas and Xion are two halves to a whole (what 358/2 Days means an no it's not math problem, don't ask who says that), what happened in Castle Oblivion and Riku's road to dawn, how it began for sora and Xehanort's plan.


Missing a lopt, including that riku and Kairi are now doing thier own things as Sora goes to regain his powers.

I think these are touching upon details that will actually be relevant in Kingdom Hearts 3. KH2 raised questions but most of those were answered in the subsequent game. Meanwhile details like Roxas and Xion will be relevant in KH3, just like the Princesses of Heart (which were shown towards the end of Darkness), as well as Riku's road to redemption and dawn (which again, strongly hints at him being playable).

The only think I wonder about not being included is details from 0.2, but other than that if something wasn't shown then I think it might be safe to assume KH3 won't touch upon those details???

Honestly the book covers look gorgeous and awesome and I really wish this was something that could be included in preorder and if not that, maybe just be a merchandise or something because the design is just wow! ;w; I even thought they were actual books you get to preorder at first since I saw pictures until I read more into it though! xD

Chirithy's Japanese voice is so adorable! It's too bad I can't understand Japanese but I enjoy watching it mostly because of how cute her voice is! Also I can't wait to watch this in English since I love Lara Jill Miller's voice as Chirithy as well!

It's weird KH2, Coded, and Chi were skipped over but that makes me think whatever transpires in them either is not going to be super important to KH3's plot, the parts that are important were already covered in the other books like Xemnas's defeat was, OR they already have the other important stuff summed up during KH3 and this just covers all the stuff we won't really hear too much about in KH3. Like we aren't getting any coverage on the black box because KH3 will probably explain that little thing in-game.

Xion as much as I love her felt like she got a disproportionate amount of time along with Roxas which when added in with "Roxas is KH3's biggest secret" makes me think Xion and Roxas probably have a notable role to play. Like seriously BBS crew had to share their story as a small piece of MX's throughout the ages. Really the Days crew as a whole seemed to just feel more prevalent in this recap which is both touching and also kinda...a question mark?

Also I want these books IRL so freaking bad.

I think Chi was skipped over because right now it's impossible to recount the important elements since the story is still ongoing (even if it's been at a standstill for almost a year) and any details necessary will be explained in the game because I think Square will assume everyone going into 3 won't know the story.

It's the worst one to try and keep up with because it's nothing but breadcrumbs every few months and no one knows what is actually important, especially since they threw out the entire plot of the game after the Foretellers carked it and they restarted the plot.

Like I said earlier, KH2's plot is pretty much done. The questions raised have been pretty much answered and KH3 is a sequel to the games that have come out since then. It makes a lot more sense for the videos to focus on those open ended games than the game that is pretty much closed now.

Coded's only bit of important was Sora learning how to deal with pain and that, imo, wasn't big enough to warrant its inclusion. And I feel 0.2 was too recent for it to be recapped, plus it doesn't do much outside of the last cutscene that's important.

After watching them all, I feel like it did a pretty good job of at least covering the major bases in a concise, manageable way. It introduces most of the major players, shows a little bit of their personalities as well as some of the struggles they had to go through, and where some of them have ended up, culminating in a nice wrap up of explaining what the big threat is currently and why.

I can't think of TOO much that someone who is going in completely blind would really need to know that isn't just muddling up the water with extra details.

I think these were great little videos and are a good way to try and get people invested with characters they might not know anything about. I think you get a pretty broad idea about who most of them are.

My only concern is that some of the characters weren't tied back to why they are currently connected to Sora more clearly, which isn't a huge deal, necessarily...it just feels like that is kind of a big theme of the game which was a bit glossed over. (Though, it was kind of nice to have it treating them all as their own separate people instead of just like oh this clone...) but some stuff with Vanitas, for example, would be kind of shocking to some one who never played the game, especially if he still looks like Sora because that really wasn't addressed at all. Same with the connection to Roxas and Ven. I'm sure someone who doesn't know the characters might be wondering why the two look the same. But it's just like well, here is Roxas and here is Ven. ^^;

But I guess if you start getting into little things like that you would bloat the videos up a lot.

They said this is for newcomers and the like to catch up with the whole story -- KH2 and Coded are a part of this story, so I find it really questionable that they were just.. not included at all.

I agree it is odd that they omitted KH2, but it's also common sense for newcomers to at least have played KH1 and KH2 before jumping into KH3. This is more to catch people up with the basics and info from non-numbered titles that they've likely ignored.

This isnt what I was expecting, guess the hours long part was a joke or these arent all of them. If I really stop and think about it it does make sense for it to only be a few short videos or new comers would probably feel overwhelmed and not bother.

Still from what I saw it looks good.

I'm disappointed that they only released the japanese versions. I hoped they had finally learned to release these thing simultaneously so all fans feel included.

From the way the interviews originally worded it, I assumed these would be "Never played the series before, don't have time to, but still want to play KH3 AND understand what's going on? You madman. Well, here you go!"

But now after watching the episodes and reading through the comments on here, it seems like these videos are more "Okay, we won't spoil all the details of the games themselves in case you still want to play for yourself, but here are the main story bits that will help you in KH3. Anything else is either answered in a previous game, or will be answered in this one."

So, in conclusion, these episodes are mainly for newcomers and Everglow's Timeline series is for the crazies like me.

I noticed this immediately and have no idea why they did this. Each episode ends with a question too, which, to me, makes little sense. Like for example, at the end of the first episode, Kingdom Hearts, it asks "But will it prove enough to thwart Ansem's plot and rescue Sora's friends?"

Like if Sora didn't, these other episodes wouldn't even exist lol.

Yeesh, now I really feel bad for Xbox fans. These questions will only make the Xbox audience beg to know more, but they'll shortly be disappointed by knowing the Kingdom Hearts collection isn't even coming anytime soon.

It's as if they couldn't make up their minds. "Do we spoil the entire plot of each game to catch people up? Or do we go over each one and leave the endings unknown in case people still want to actually play the games?"

Because, for PlayStation owners who are new to the series, that makes sense. I wouldn't want to be interested in a series, watch the recaps, and essentially have the entire main plot spoiled in great detail for me if I were trying to get a feel for the story and whether I was interested. On the other hand, Xbox players have no access to the previous games, so leaving it open-ended doesn't help them at all.

I'm starting to think Nomura has a phobia of giving solid answers to questions outside of interviews, even when they've already been answered before.

Pretty underwhelming and they only touched the surface of the plot leaving some unanswered questions, then again that might be because they will get answered in KH3. Can't really say that I'm satisfied with it but it might be the best for newcomers. Btw, the book designs are phenomenal.

The discrepancies between what was promised and what was shown are indeed puzzling.
I'm not really bothered by the lack of KH II, Chaser does have a point in saying is not only the most popular KH game, its relevance to KH III's plot is pretty flimsy compared to other titles. KH1 is in the same boat, with the exception that being the very first game you gotta start from there.

Also yeah, the reason why Square doesn't produce and sell those books instead of clock faces and marriage jewelry is lost to me.

After Roxas and Xion got revived and helped with a boss fight or whatever I assumed they’d just kind of fade away from the main story. But with how much attention they got in the recaps I guess they’re sticking around for the full adventure of KH3 including the final light vs dark clash. Not that I have anything against these characters, I like them, they just didn’t seem very important in the greater scheme of things. Terra, Aqua, and Xemnas were footnotes compared to them, strange.

The gist of KH1, CoM, and Days are pretty easy to cover in that short time I believe, but with the last two I'm just not sure about Riku and Xehanort having their own separate videos, but since so much of what they do spans all the games it was probably easier to do it that way.

A thought I just had is that having one on Chi and showing anyone from it would pretty much say that those characters will appear in KH3.

I'm honestly a little surprised that Days gets so much coverage yet BBS gets so little.

In the big picture, Days wasn't even that important as it is closely tied to the events of KH 2, which was omitted entirely.

Specifically Terra and Aqua feel almost like afterthoughts in these summary videos. Terra being the one who "qualified" Riku to be a Keyblade Wielder is even entirely omitted.
Ventus' supposed close connection to Sora and what that means in regards to Roxas also seems to be glossed over, but since the narration is in japanese I can't say if it is actually covered verbally by Chirithy.


That Chi is not included doesn't surprise me one bit as not only is its story largely unfinished, it is also a total mess on its own and nothing from it has really be cleared up at all so far.

Judging by how brief the videos were and how there wasn't a book dedicated to DDD itself, I highly doubt it. Young Xehanort's mention in the Darkness volume seems to be the only real acknowledgment of DDD at all.

Honestly I was a little disappointed by it. The animation was good, but I feel like they didn't really cover as much of the story as I was expecting. I've seen YouTuber's who have done better recaps of the series to date in the same or less time that give way better information (now I couldn't understand what was being said but understood what wasn't being shown in the context). I guess since it's something they don't want to have dragging on but are at least trying to get those complainers (12 years for kh3 boo hoo who are these randos) sped up in a way that they won't just skip the cutscenes to get to the end, that they did a good job accomplishing their goal. I'm also not at all surprised that someone mistranslated a few hours lol there was no way they would include a several hour video on top of all the rest of the game content on disc for the sake of catching up those who punish themselves by ignoring such great KH content.

I definitely would have loved Jiminy to narrate it as well, but I'm also not surprised they didn't think of it tbh. They always seem to go for the OG characters of Disney ones even when it makes perfect sense...

I have already been wanting to replay the series...but I still havent actually touched my HD DDD copy yet. Cuz I have been 100% KH2 and BBS. Which is taking a long time. I did 1 and CoM already...minus replaying CoM 2 more times since I have the PS3 versions..

Days has honestly always been more important to our characters than BBS even if the plot it was most important to was KH2 and CoM, Days still had bearing and presence driving plot in Coded, DDD, and let's be honest a lot of BBS amounted to explaining things from Days. As far as characters go Roxas, Xion, and Axel directly effect and have deep connections/relationships to Sora, Riku, Kairi, and the Organization. TAV are important but in the grand scheme of things what is more important to Sora's story and Sora as a person? Sora has been directly dealing with the ramification of RAX for almost his entire adventure post KH1. Even the most recent game DDD it's easy to see the Days crew were getting more screen time and focus than TAV in it.

To put it another way Roxas, Xion, and Axel affect Sora on a personal level that TAV don't because Sora has barely any relationship or interaction with them himself, Ventus is there with those two but he has effected Sora to a very minimal degree compared to Xion causing a huge mess up with is memories and Roxas's emotions echoing and haunting him. TAV set the seeds for the overall series but in the end it's not the seeds that matter so much so the plants that grow from them, that need tending and pruning and constantly absorb the life the gardener.

It doesn't seem like KH3 is moving away from that either with Nomura not seeing Aquanort as the huge twist it is, and going on to say that Roxas is one of the biggest secrets of KH3.

Sweet! I wanted to wait to watch them until there was a sub or dub.

It is interesting how two of the videos focused a lot on Xion. I’m starting to think the mystery of the 13th vessel will play out as a subplot in KH3 with Xion, Roxas, and Other Riku as potential candidates for the slot. Kairi, Sora, and Riku will each have stories involving one of those characters and we’ll have to see which one of them ends up being Norted.

Ya know, I think someone else mentioned there was a bunch of Days stuff. Is there a possibility she's a part of the plot in a big way in KH3? Or maybe we're to assume she is just as important with the involvement she's had thus far in Days. I don't know, don't wanna turn this into that conversation lol

So the titles are Departures, Memories, Twilight, Dawn, and Darkness. To those who've watched already (I won't be able to watch for awhile) out of curiosity are the Chapters divided or centered around entire games or just events related to the Chapter's "theme"? Like Xehanort-y stuff in Darkness, Roxas-y stuff in Twilight, Riku-y stuff in Dawn etc.

Also sucks/surprising how short these things are, thought they'd be much longer honestly

Memories covers Sora's side of CoM.
Twilight covers Days, focusing on the friendship between Roxas, Axel and Xion.
Dawn focuses on Riku's journey from CoM up until he releases the darkness and takes Ansem SoD's form in the fight against Roxas. His growth in following events is only referenced at the end.
Darkness is about Master Xehanort and his ambitions.

Seeing Saix’s hatred of Xion all over again makes me wonder if he ultimately hated her because he didn’t like the idea of a ‘worthless’ doll becoming a Xehanort. I wonder if being thrown to the wayside by Lea had him a bit worried that Xemnas would throw Saix away and replace him with a doll if the nortification process didn’t work.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. Sora never really had a relationship with Terra, Aqua OR Ven. All three of the BBS trio are important, but their connection to Sora is more distant than the Days trio (save Ven, sure, but Sora's basically an airbnb for everybody).

Ven is the reason why Roxas looks different than Sora, but like you mentioned, Xion played a much more immediate factor into what's going on. Roxas we obviously just can't leave alone with him running around doing God knows what due to him being Sora's Nobody, and Axel was the concerned friend that was also pretty involved with what went down in Castle Oblivion. Sora's not going to have the same emotional attachment for TAV, and it wouldn't make sense if he did.

Hell, as far as Sora's concerned, the story for TAV probably goes that Master Xehanort bodied all three of them AND their master (Eraqus). Roxas, he's had an encounter with more than once and Axel (now Lea) is actually training under Yen Sid. Sora's going to save everyone regardless because that's what needs to be done (unless Nomura wants to toss a curve ball at us) so in the end it's whatever, but I could definitely see KH3 taking the road of the Days trio being focused on more in the beginning. If Aqua is Norted, Ven's fate is reliant on Aqua's fate and Terra is missing in action, I don't think that's something we'll probably be able to deal with until later on.

I totally understand that, RAX being more related to Sora and crew on a personal level because they impact him more and others (Riku, Kairi, etc.) have interacted with them personally. Completely understand this. I suppose my thing is that Aqua, Ven, and Terra (to an extent) are physically out there in terms of retrieval and are actively in need of rescuing Aqua being physically trapped in the Realm of Darkness, Ven physically locked up in Castle Oblivion, and Terra sorta being scattered about within the Xehanort casserole.

Until the latest trailers I personally was scratching my head at how they'd even approach reconciling with Roxas in any step above what has already been done in KH2 and DDD (Sora having internal conversations with him) because Roxas' very physical existence hinged on Sora being incapacitated in some way. To be honest even now I'm curious to see how they'd go about doing it in a way that doesn't seem like doing backflips lore and storytelling wise. I'm even more lost at how they'd even approach anything with Xion other than finding a way to remember her not even attempting to theorize how'd they bring her back physically (unless they introduce the puppet project through Even again, but then again that relies on a clear recollection of the girl). I guess what I'm saying is, although RAX had a more personal connection to Sora (one that I actually applaud Days for because hate it or love it the drama was written pretty alright) the states that they are in are a bit more difficult to rectify than TAV, at least in a cohesive way that doesn't rely on us suspending what we believe to be the status quo of the universe (such as questions like "How they gonna bring Xion back fam?" being answered with something we never would have imagined possible or even heard of in the series until that point). That's just my opinion.

Sidenote edit: Now that I think about it, if anything Riku seems to be more involved in the TAV aspect of the rescue mission maybe perhaps (he's actively searching for Aqua, the conversation he had with Ansem SoD in DDD alluding to his memory of Terra, etc.) if anything maybe Sora could focus on retrieving RAX and Riku focus on TAV. Just throwing that idea out there

Sora's journey mostly involves RAX, Riku's journey mostly involves TAV? That would help keep the narrative organized. Sora wouldn't be jumping all over trying to juggle a dozen rescue missions at once, and this gives Riku reason to stay separate from Sora since he has his own work to do. Huh. You might be onto something.

It was pointed out to me on Twitter that the quote at the end of Memories is Xigbar's line from the E3 2018 vol. 2 trailer. I couldn't find any matching dialogue for the other four quotes, so it's safe to say they're probably all from KH3.

this is kairi talking to sora becuase either the old charm broke so he made him a new charm or sora give the charm back to kairi and kairi give sora a new charm of his own singling a change in there friendship evovling but your know what what if it sora talking to kairi and he gives her a charm that he made like them give a papou fruit
