With just a little less than three months until the release of Kingdom Hearts 3, the Entertainment Sofware Rating Board (ESRB) has rated the game E10+ for alcohol references and fantasy violence.The description below provides a summary based on the rating board's review of Kingdom Hearts 3, which may contain some POTENTIAL SPOILERS.
Content Descriptors:Alcohol Reference, Fantasy ViolenceRating Summary:This is an action role-playing game in which players follow Sora and his friends as they battle an evil force. From a third-person perspective, players explore Disney-themed worlds, gain cartoon-character allies, and battle shadowy creatures along the way. Players use key-shaped swords, whimsical magic attacks, and special powers/attack moves (e.g., blasts of water, cartoony blasters) to defeat enemies in frenetic combat. Some sequences allow players to pilot robots or small ships that shoot projectiles at enemies from a first-person perspective. A handful of cutscenes depict off-screen stabbings/impaling of protagonist characters.

It’s such a fun read right up until the very end. We have seen one character that will go through that, I wonder who the others will be.

Nomura is seriously trying to snatch our lives. I feel victimized. That said, Will Turner and Flynn both have this happen to them in their stories. But then there’s... you know.

Yeah, true. The term would likely refer to the heroes we get significantly attached to over the course of the game. Gosh, I’m nervous.

Nomura already stated that Disney put more restrictions on what they can/can't do in KH3 compared to what they could do in previous titles. I'd imagine having a bunch of people stabbing and impaling each other would have gone into a territory Disney wasn't comfortable with. One stabbing is fine, but multiple is more violent.
Gonna copy+paste myself from Twitter: We want to also note that in previous ratings for Kingdom Hearts, they never used "stabbing/impalingâ€. They said “struck and/or wounded by magical swords†for 2.8, “struck in the chest by a Keyblade†for 1.5, and “sinking a keyblade into his chest†for BBS.

I know Davy Jones isn't a protagonist but the description of "
depict off-screen stabbings/impaling" does suggest on an off-screen stab of Will (albeit unconscious) stabbing the Heart of Davy Jones in The Caribbean world unless if they do a KH original death for Jones much like they did it with the other antagonists in previous titles (e.g. Clayton, Shan Yu, The Hydra, Scar, Jafar, The MCP).
I know I'm getting ahead of myself and misinterpreting the description on the OP but it's something worth considering some of you brought up Flynn Rider/Eugene and Will Turner getting stabbed.
I really wouldn’t class the Disney characters as protagonist characters. They’re more side characters, but I’m also not the people behind the ESRB rating so I really have no idea on the specific parts of how they judged this game.
Still, not ruling out the actual protagonists being in big trouble.

I'm betting one of the protags will get stabbed by a fully formed kaiblade. Completing this dangerous weapon was a monumental task that took several years, if the bad guys don't actually use it for something it'll seem like a waste.
If their definition of protagonists is correct, it should be about Sora & co.
What if it's only off-screen in the english copy. In the (JP) copy of KH2, Will had a pistol pointed to his head. In the english copy they altered the scene with Will lowering the pistol.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for KH3 with less violent content.

The Australian rating breakdown showed that the game would still be in its original form. That might not be the case for the NA version, I guess, but I think it’ll be left as is.
So yeah, we pretty much have one world to blame for all this (the drinking & stabbing)... Pirates.
Even if the ESRB does consider Disney characters to be protagonists (and I think they might), "a handful" usually means more than just one or two, so Flynn and Will can't account for all of them. So, yeah, I definitely think some of this is going to happen to our actual heroes

We learned he's resistant to being Norted in DDD. If Riku can't be used as a vessel Master Xehanort would probably want to simply kill him.
Well they did say the ending will be hard to take, so i think one of the heroes will actually die.
Sooo this will probably be even more violent than DDD. I'm still surprised it won't be a true happy ending since it's tied Disney. But I'm ready for a good surprise.

thanks to KHInsider's tweet, we know that they actually mean stabbing, not a keyblade being thrust into someones chest or anything like that
edit: additionally, it wouldn't make sense to make someone getting stuck in the chest with a keyblade be off-screen when it's been done in the past. even if it was a keyblade, they would specify as they've done so in the past

I am so excited for duck crunk Dolan and you cannot convince me we won't get that, for he will be the reason the rum is gone.
the only character that i'll actually be sad about if she dies, is aqua. she was trapped for years just to save her friends, she don't deserve this kind of ending.
There doesn't need to be a happy ending for our protgagonists until the last KH game, not KH3. The only characters needing a true "ending" in KH3 are characters directly associated with Xehanort like himself, and most of the seekers. I am sure all of our protagonists that dont "die" in KH3 will have roles to play in the future which is why I don't think they should all have happy endings just yet..
If you take Riku and give him this ultimate "happy ending resolution he can finally live in peace", then that kind of ruins any potential plot ensuing stories they may want to tell with Riku later down the line. I think Xehanort and his seekers can be resolved but I want some characters whereabouts to be left open so that we have a mission going into the next saga. Someone like Kairi getting trapped in the realm of darkness at the very end easily opens up a starting point for the next saga and gives drive to move forward. (Kairi is a bad example I wouldn't want her to have that ending but it was an example).
Booze could also have to do with the Remy minigame too; I thought I saw Sora handling a bottle of wine in the trailer where they revealed it!
I think one Nomera interview said he's aiming for a happy ending; I think it's possible to have a happy ending that has hooks for another story. The Incredibles had that if I'm not mistaken, so don't count that out. (And I loved Incredibles 2 btw.)

No you are absolutely right. I kind of just want some drama like one of our protags being in danger for some reason. There are plenty of ways they can set that up tho.

Right, and that's part of Oracle's point. Even though it was technically stabbing they have historically used other, less violent sounding phrases. She's suggesting that them using the general "stab" this time around could be due to a stricter panel of reviewers, or because it includes not just keyblades but the other weapons the villains use (Scythes, laser blades, etc).

though, if the Pirates and Tangled worlds somewhat follow the storyline of the original movies, then we'd be comparing actual stabbing scenes (although off-screen), to people pokin a keyblade in their chest, which absolutely seem similar but imo i feel like theres enough to differentiate the two, though thats just my opinion on it

I could see a protag getting absorbed into Kingdom Hearts to power it up after it's drained by Xehanort or something like that. Or becoming one with the will of Darkness or Light.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but if Sora doesn't become the embodiment of Kingdom Hearts by the end of the game I'm gonna be sorely disappointed...
