Disney announces Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at D23 Expo 2022

Disney has announced that they will be hosting the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase live at D23 Expo 2022 on September 9th at 1PM Pacific Time. The presentation will be hosted by Kinda Funny’s Blessing Adeoye Jr. and will feature games from Disney & Pixar Games, Marvel Games, Lucasfilm Games, and 20th Century Games.
In addition to all-new announcements, Disney fans can expect new reveals from titles including Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and a sneak peek at the upcoming Marvel ensemble game from Skydance New Media.
The Disney & Marvel GAMES SHOWCASE will be streamed live from D23 Expo 2022 and available to watch on a variety of platforms, including:

Fans attending D23 Expo 2022 in person will be able to watch the showcase live on the Premiere Stage, with a presentation following the livestream featuring developer interviews, special guests, and exclusive giveaways.

With the NA anniversary in September, I would love to see KH get some sort of acknowledgement at this event. I think we’ll get news next month either way, but hoping it is here.
I really hope to see KH there, even though I'm not banking on it. This anniversary has so far been Japan-focused and an overload of merch. With the panel being the day before KH's NA anniversary, it'd be the perfect place to share more news and acknowledge the overseas audience before the year ends.
But of course if the team isn't ready to share anything, it's totally understandable.
LEGO TSS news? Guess we're getting DLC that a bit meatier than the character packs. Maybe they're finally adding a RotJ Death Star level. God that bugged me that it was just a super short cutscene. Oh, and Whompa beast bossfight too.
Maybe too much to ask but if any KH news, I'd rather get proper Switch ports announcements, or Days remake, UXDR console port, or maybe even KH Warriors by Omega Force than some minuscule KH4 nugget.

We might get something related to Missing Link, but I'm not holding my breath for anything substantial.
It's a week before KH1's North American anniversary, Toy Story's reveal had the biggest crowd reaction at their Level Up Showcase which surprised them last time, it'll have been 6 months since KH4's reveal.
Please Disney, give me something to hope for, something to dream for, something to aspire to.
But please don't be a single piece of concept art 5 years before we see any actual footage of that world.

To be fair he said that 4 months ago and then did an interview with GI about KH4 2 months later so it’s really just when Nomura and SE are cool with providing information. I think the idea of saying that was to avoid people expecting anything over the summer during the summer events.

I also would say being at D23 isn't a thing Nomura wouldn't have much of a say in. The client trumps all and if Disney wants something there, Disney will get it.

I wonder if that Marvel ensemble game from Skydance could be a Defenders game since a Daredevil game was rumored to be in the works. As far as groups with some name recognition that haven’t had recent adaptions, I can only think of them and F4 at the moment. X-Men too technically if you don’t count Wolverine.
Back to KH’s presence, I still think Disney would want that Star Wars reveal. The audience reaction would be insane. It’d be too big of a deal to reveal in a random YouTube drop or streaming only event.

I don't think Black Panther, and by extension EA's Iron Man game, will be there. Didn't they only just rent an office for developers to work on Black Panther?
The ensemble game has my interest since it's from Amy Hennig's studio. I enjoyed her Uncharted games (what they did to Uncharted 4 after she left was upsetting) and the bad luck that followed has been awful to see. She deserves a win so my fingers are crossed for her. I'm not expecting any KH4 news at D23, but would be pleasantly surprised if there is. I think it might still be a little early for KH4 hype news since they already showed off something in the anniversary event. But the Marvel side of things has me interested. I know it's unlikely but...maybe Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 perhaps? Fingers crossed.

It is curious that KH stuff will appear in Square's mobile titles (Record Keeper, Brave Exvius, WoFF), but not in Disney's (Speedstorm, Sorcerer's Arena, Mirrorverse).
I mean, KH has shown up in the emoji thing right? Considering Nomura was hesitant to put KH in Smash because of the lore I think the fact most of the mobile games have excuse plots with the characters complicate things.
It is curious that KH will appear in Square's mobile titles (Record Keeper, Brave Exvius), but not in Disney's (Speedstorm, Sorcerer's Arena).
KH has been in some Disney mobile titles, namely Emoji Blitz and Tsum Tsum (and weirdly, Deadpool weilds Keyblades in Marvel Heroes but they don't look like Keyblades.)
Speedstorm and Dreamlight Valley are at least on consoles as well so the chances of a Keyblade in DV or maybe a costume for Donald / Mickey in SS is on the cards.
People at Disney have also been sneaking a lot more into their shows and movies as well, e.g. Proud Family and Chip and Dale, so the chances for a reference in these other games is higher than it was a decade ago.
The restrictions on KH in other games or media means that nothing will ever top D23's announcement of the Disney Infinity 3.0 Mickey disc and Keyblade for me. I know, Smash Bros blah blah, but Disney itself referencing KH in something else was pretty much unheard of back then. I hope for that momentum to really continue.
KH (and DuckTales 2017) also is canonically set in a parallel reality to Disney Magic Kingdoms.

If we are going to advocate for what we want I'll join! Not only do I want my 358/2 Days remake I also want a full DLC for Melody of Memory that includes all the missing songs, KH3 demade worlds, all of ReMind remixes, Critical Mode, and a unlockable Team Kairi and Team Xehanort. Why not?

Honestly this is what I want the most. I’m really upset that they haven’t ported over the PC version improvements to a current gen console version. I know they can’t bring over everything but there is plenty they can bring over.

Doubtful, especally in UE4. That would make it a production on par with KH3/4. For a game that Square made as cheaply as possible. A somewhat more plausible possibility could be reusing KH1/2/BBS maps but so so many new areas and enemy models would need to be made anyway that Square may not see it as worth it.
Really, the more likely scenario if they're still going for a playable title is a direct port with retooled gameplay. The assets are in HD already.

I would hope Square would stop resorting to theater modes in place of playable games. I swear at least a part of the reason I got an X-Box Series S was because I run Days and Coded on an emulator with it.

Creating environments for TV is different for games, but I was selfishly hoping that making a KH show meant those early worlds being remade in UE4 meant they could reuse the assets for that for an eventual X game but if KH isn't announced at D23 next month then I'm giving up on that too.

I know. For me, with the show and games being made in Unreal, I was like "well if they're building Wonderland for the show, then they might have assets to pull from for a future game to save development time" but there's a lot of difference between the two mediums and a lot of uncertainty about projects.
And you know what? I keep forgetting that Missing Link is a thing, even in this thread where it's been brought up several times. I just fail to remember that this is a game in development. That ultimately might be what the fourth team has worked on if the UX/DR team weren't repurposed for it (I think they were moved to other KH games but I assumed it was KH4.)

Said game appears to be a live action FMV game. And given how shortly after NEO it came, I'm guessing it was made by a separate, and possibly smaller, team.
As an aside—this is probably a pipe dream at this point, but if that KH Disney+ series still miraculously exists, it most likely would be shown at the 2 hour Studio Showcase at 6:30pm ET the same day. The description says:
“Join Disney Studios for an all-star look at what’s coming up in theaters and on Disney+ from Disney’s iconic Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, as well as its namesake motion picture group behind such recent Disney hits as Cruella, Jungle Cruise, and Chip ’N Dale: Rescue Rangers.“
…though I’m pretty sure the rumors were that Square was developing the series in-house, and there’s no “third party studio” showcase listed anywhere, so. *shrug*

Ok so I'm not expecting any Kingdom Hearts announcements at this show, but based on what was shown in the teaser and games that are known to be in development, I've compiled a list of what I think we'll see.
Disney and Pixar:
Dreamlight Valley (seen in the teaser and name-dropped in the announcement)
Disney Speedstorm (also seen in the teaser)
Disney Mirrorverse (same as the others)
I don't know if we'll see anything else, but maybe more mobile games if anything.
Lucasfilm Games:
Lego Skywalker Saga (in the teaser)
Because the name of the showcase is Disney & Marvel, I'm not expecting anything else from Lucasfilm. I'd love to see more of Star Wars Jedi:Survivor and there's plenty of other Star Wars games not to mention the Indiana Jones game, but again it's specifically the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase so I think Lucasfilm and 20th Century will be in the minority.
20th Century Games:
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (shown in the teaser)
Aliens: Dark Descent (same as above)
That's probably all we'll get from 20th Century. There's another Alien game in development but I don't think that one is far enough into it's development cycle to be shown yet. The only other thing we might get is the announcement of a new Simpsons game.
Marvel Games:
Midnight Suns (in the teaser)
Amy Hennig's Marvel Ensemble Game (seemingly the big announcement that they're betting on to sell the entire showcase)
Again this is the Disney & Marvel showcase so I expect a greater emphasis on Marvel than the other two. As for what we can expect, I really don't know. Spider-man 2 would be a safe bet, but Sony will likely save it for a State of Play and probably not until after God of War:Ragnarok's release (that goes double for Wolverine). We could get reveals for the rumored Black Panther and Iron Man games from EA, the long rumored Marvel fighter from Netherrealm, or maybe some surprises like Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Strange etc. There's also mobile games but I'm not gonna get into that right now.
P.S. One major thing that could determine how much we actually get from this is the runtime. As far as I know, nothing was said about how long it will be so it's really hard to figure out how much or how little we're going to see. It could be an hour long show (or maybe even shorter), or it could be an epic multi-hour event. If I had to guess I'd say it will probably be the former but who knows.

90 minutes is pretty hefty. The level up showcase was 75 minutes and the majority of it was interviews on the stage.
I think they showed off 6 games back then - BattleFront II, Jedi Challenge AR, Spider-Man (2018), Lego Marvel 2, Marvel Power's United VR, Kingdom Hearts III.
We already know of several games for this showcase, so regardless it should be a good showcase.

Huh, I actually did not know this. I never played DI though, so that's why. It's definitely interesting, seeing as it seems that it was one of those movies Disney wanted to forget.

So Google says the show will be stream at 1 am in my time so don’t tell me if Epic Mickey gets revealed before I’ve seen at at around 8 am

Gamespot's reporting EA's Iron Man game will be shown. Athem team developing. Unfortunately for us, there's so many potential "& 1 more thing" type reveals to close this out that KH might not be necessary.

At the 20th Anniversary event he said: “Can't say much about the game right now. It was only shown early to avoid leaks, so there won't be any more news for a while. There won't be any news on KH at E3 either.”
And in the April Famitsu interview he said “KHIV's development is being prioritized, and we don't have plans to release additional info for a while.”

It's the annoying part about what "a while" means to Nomura versus what it means to us.
To me, almost half a year has been "a while" but to him and management's schedules it could mean like April 2023 or something. I know why a more defined time frame would have been tough to nail down since they were in the stages of exporting from UE4 and importing to UE5 but it would have been nice to have a rough time period to look forward to.
If I was the betting type I'd say TGS is at least a lost cause at this point for any news at all.
Ok so I'm not expecting any Kingdom Hearts announcements at this show, but based on what was shown in the teaser and games that are known to be in development, I've compiled a list of what I think we'll see.
Disney and Pixar:
Dreamlight Valley (seen in the teaser and name-dropped in the announcement)
Disney Speedstorm (also seen in the teaser)
Disney Mirrorverse (same as the others)
I don't know if we'll see anything else, but maybe more mobile games if anything.
Lucasfilm Games:
Lego Skywalker Saga (in the teaser)
Because the name of the showcase is Disney & Marvel, I'm not expecting anything else from Lucasfilm. I'd love to see more of Star Wars Jedi:Survivor and there's plenty of other Star Wars games not to mention the Indiana Jones game, but again it's specifically the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase so I think Lucasfilm and 20th Century will be in the minority.
20th Century Games:
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (shown in the teaser)
Aliens: Dark Descent (same as above)
That's probably all we'll get from 20th Century. There's another Alien game in development but I don't think that one is far enough into it's development cycle to be shown yet. The only other thing we might get is the announcement of a new Simpsons game.
Marvel Games:
Midnight Suns (in the teaser)
Amy Hennig's Marvel Ensemble Game (seemingly the big announcement that they're betting on to sell the entire showcase)
Again this is the Disney & Marvel showcase so I expect a greater emphasis on Marvel than the other two. As for what we can expect, I really don't know. Spider-man 2 would be a safe bet, but Sony will likely save it for a State of Play and probably not until after God of War:Ragnarok's release (that goes double for Wolverine). We could get reveals for the rumored Black Panther and Iron Man games from EA, the long rumored Marvel fighter from Netherrealm, or maybe some surprises like Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Strange etc. There's also mobile games but I'm not gonna get into that right now.
P.S. One major thing that could determine how much we actually get from this is the runtime. As far as I know, nothing was said about how long it will be so it's really hard to figure out how much or how little we're going to see. It could be an hour long show (or maybe even shorter), or it could be an epic multi-hour event. If I had to guess I'd say it will probably be the former but who knows.

I stopped betting on it when the schedule came out. They've already for FFVII Rebirth, FFXVI, and Forspoken there, alongside Crisis Core, Dragon Quest, and way more.
I know there's been questioning on in Rebirth and XVI trailers would be new or if they'd show old ones, but if old trailers were being shown why not throw the old KH4 trailer in there too? Boost their profile up with another heavy hitter.

Nomura was burned pretty badly by the December KH3 leak that is true, but I can see why people are hyping themselves up for D23 TGS and now Jump Festa for ANY news. Since Nomura said "A while" and did not directly say "No more news for 2022."

After the KH3 promo cycle I totally forgot about all the Japanese game events. TGS has always been in September and Jump Festa in December, right?
Than maybe we could totally see something during Jump Festa.
