Anime Expo Lite announced, features official TWEWY artwork for the event

Anime Expo has announced their free two-day livestream event, Anime Expo Lite, for July 3-4. The event will feature will content from industry partners such as Bushiroad, Crunchyroll, Pony Canyon, VIZ Media, and more!
Anime Expo also revealed that the program guide for the previously planned Anime Expo 2020 was going to feature their mascots Ai and Xeno alongside Neku, Shiki, Beat, Rhyme, and Joshua from The World Ends with You.
“We are excited to be able to parlay the traditional Anime Expo into a virtual experience. Since 2017, AX has been live-streaming select panels as well as from the convention floor, so it is a natural transition for us to produce a virtual event. As everything in 2020 is different, we see a unique opportunity to be able to share our passion for Japanese pop culture not only with those that would have attended AX but now with any anime fan no matter where they live,” said Ray Chiang, CEO of The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation, AX’s organizer. “With our Anime Expo Lite line-up, we know fans will find plenty of events and special guests to entertain and keep them engaged.”

Sure, I’ll let myself be excited for whatever is coming out of this! I actually just replayed TWEWY as one of my lockdown games.
Maybe that stylus that I bought to have a better time playing Final Remix will get some use again.
I wonder if TWEWY combat could be translated to buttons somehow. All those repetitive motions don’t feel great if your playing for a long time.

I would certainly enjoy it if they swapped to button commands. TWEWY's ingenuity was great for the DS, but the Switch is just too awkward to play on.
At least give us a name for the so-called "Hype-chan." I'm so starved for content that I'm willing to accept that.

Am I the only TWEWY fan that doesn't want a sequel? I loved how it ended, I mean I would love more explanation to the lore, but I like when a story has a definitive end (ironic coming from a KH fan).
If there's anything from that franchise that I would like, it's a PS4/5 complete remake of the original game. I feel like the story is so amazing, but because it was trapped on a handheld not many people experienced it. I also didn't particularly care for the gameplay, but the story had me hooked to power through it (like Days). I think if they remake it on PS4/5, they have the opportunity to create new gameplay mechanics which I'm all for.
It's gonna be a BanG Dream x TWEWY collaboration, calling it now! LOL (I unironically want this).

The sales weren't great, but Nintendo took on the burden of publishing and marketing in the west at least so I imagine they didn't lose money on the venture. 90% of the complaints that surrounded the launch was the price of the game. In general TWEWY has proven to sell well considering the smartphone version making good numbers. The interest by fans is there, but people don't want half-hearted efforts.

I'm wondering if Nomura's usage of TWEWY in KH was maybe his way of trying to get more attention on the IP, so that higher ups will get behind more from the franchise?
And I meant like a complete remake like in 3D-CGI graphics with full voice acting/cutscenes. I guess that won't happen because it's not on FFVII's level :(

TWEWY was made with the purpose of being 2D. That's embedded into its entire identity as an IP. Some things are better left (mostly) untouched.
That isn't to say they couldn't make a future game 3D. They tested 3D out with KH3D (which I thought worked for KH but wouldn't translate into an actual TWEWY game). I think they are better off going for the same style as the first game, though. The art direction and music are the most memorable aspects of TWEWY.

I mean with KH we have connected Final Fantasy, TWEWY and if it's becoming it's own game (which I think has good chance of happening), Verum Rex as Square Enix franchises. Something from Kingdom Hearts in a Final Fantasy game (aside from a little easter egg) is hart to imagine for me at this stage, but if the concept works in other, lesser important titles, it could spread. Or did the FF7 Remake had any Kingdom Hearts connections, clear or vague? Didn't played that either, so no clue.
If they would start to overlapp more, as example with Sora as a party member in a TWEWY sequel (haven't played the game, but from what I understood you have a party there) or cameos it would be cool concept wise, but such a hell to follow the overall story, especially in KHs case, if the stuff that happens in these games becomes important - and atleast I can imagine it very good, that Nomura would love the idea to make KH stuff happening in another franchise plot relevant. I would be the old dilemma with the games spread over all kind of consoles/handhelds, just reskinned...

I watched a bit of a play-through for the DS to get the feel, but the gameplay just seemed kind of clunky, and the plot a little too out there (I know this is SE we're talking about). But from the scores it's gotten, can I get an opinion from some veterans? I have a Switch now, and maybe I actually need to play it.

I'd endorse you to watch videos on YouTube and try to set an opinion on that. And also, the gameplay isn't clunky.

The only reason the gameplay looked clunky is because it looked like (on the DS at the time [to 17 year old me, as I was introduced to it through DDD]) that your stylus had to be all over the place while you were moving at the same time.

The story is great, the gameplay is definitely something you have to grow to learn but imo the DS version is the best version. It looks clunky but once you hit on the right pin combo and set the partner to semi-auto or auto, it's perfect.
I do not recommend the Switch version tbh. It's fine but it is clunkier and not as intuitive as the DS version. Play the DS version or smartphone app and watch A New Day on YT.

Aw, for real? Dang. Sometimes you just can't improve a masterpiece, huh?
Why the switch version only allows you to use one joycon in TV mode, where you can't use the thumbstick to move the character and the pointer constantly drifts so you have to recenter it, baffles me.

If you're willing to go through the learning curve that is to use both Joycons (Neku and Partner) then I recommend the Switch version. It's pretty satisfying and it turns the combat even more fast paced an exhilarating.

So not sure what you mean by MCU. However yes I do believe Kingdom Hearts is moving more towards being fully its own game with a SRK base, I think disney will still and always be a part of it where you go to disney worlds and Donald Goofy and the King are their own team. I believe TAV will be their own three man team and then Roxas Lea Isa Xion and Namine will be a team that plays more of a support role with SRK. I can see all four teams being playable in the future withthe prime focus of course on SRK. But how BBS (I think is the right game? Always forget the one where you play TAV as three individual stories) Had three story lines I think you'll start having a story line for each team possibly. This could give SE a lot to play with. As for games connecting. I already kinda don't like how much final fantasy is in KH. I dont mind it. But its off. Its not bad atm. But I wouldnt want to see them playing any bigger of a role, if KH is the same in other games, I wouldnt want KH making a big role either. Again, it would just be off. Cameos are awesome, but you gotta be careful.
Edit: OH MCU Marvel Universe got it. Ummm yeah with the introduction of Caled ad Calum I would say thats pretty much what they are starting. With my theory Ive placed elsewhere where Yozoro's world is accessable through Caled Ad Calem as they started it was the gateway between all WORLDS and young Xehanort was always very careful to say "you're time in this WORLD. is over." Its fair to sayI think they are trying to make Scala Ad Calem a gateway between the games as well possibly. Howelse would you explain the FF Characters? And the apps are already starting to pull TWENY into the world so...

The World Ends with You is my favourite game ever, but I never cared about a sequel. Not all games need one. The story is great as it is.

I adore TWEWY - one of my all time favorite games. Definitely don't get people saying the gameplay is clunky in the original release (sad to say I couldn't get into the Switch release for that reason alone) but I think it's a perfect game from the gameplay to the music, story, characters, aesthetics, etc.
But as others have said, I've been burned too many times before. I just can't let myself get HYPED - not until we have something more concrete to go off of.

Sorry for the slow response. Ive been busy with school and work sadly. However, Yeah while they have the set up complete and theoretically using Scala it would be easy for Nomura to do. I personally think he should leave that one alone. I cant really see the games mixing much more then they already have I feel it would get kinda messy. MAYBE They could do a FF World that Sora goes to, to help with a heartless problem? Maybe Tifa or Cloud or whoever, asks him for help with the heartless. IDK I still feel it would get a bit to weird. They would have to be careful about how they do it. FF Characters have already been in the Kingdom Hearts world for quite a while though. As early as the first visit to the colusem in KH1.
