In November 2012 when GameTrailers' debuted their Timeline video series, the KINGDOM HEARTS community was astonished to discover the secret teaser at the end of the video. The series' iconic title theme, Dearly Beloved, softly played as the familiar Kingdom Key Keyblade was shown stood gleaming in the sunlight on a sandy beach. As the scene faded away, the words "SPRING 2013" appeared, and the community erupted in excitement.

Two weeks ago, they released a follow-up trailer showing off some iconic scenes and locales from the series thus far, further engaging their audience and attracting everyone's attention. Degraded Keyblades lay scattered across the once forgotten battleground of the Keyblade Graveyard, empty thrones loomed over within Where Nothing Gathers. The star-studded hat of sorcery calls out for its long-retired Master, and the tree bearing star-shaped fruit basks in the warm light of a setting sun. This proved one thing and one thing only; that this Timeline would not be anything like what we expected.

The success of their previous Legend of Zelda timeline made it clear that the upcoming video would be nothing short of incredible. Even in the face of doubt, the GameTrailers team put great care into making sure they would be able to do the series and its fans justice with spot-on accuracy in every single piece of information. After almost 6 months of waiting, we are finally able to witness this from beginning to end! With GameTrailers at the helm, let us take a walk down memory lane and line the pieces up in this broken chain.

We here on the KHInsider site staff are very honored to have had the opportunity to work with GameTrailers on this Timeline!

I'm happy they mentioned our names! Woohoo!

Anyway, it seems like a great video. I really wonder though how they managed to get all that high-res footage from Birth by Sleep. It almost looks like it could be from HD 2.5 ReMIX if you ask me. Clearly they emulated KH2 Final Mix and ripped HD footage from that, but can you do the same for a PSP emulated game with such pretty graphics?

Also, minutes 31:58 - 42:20 will not play. They just skip right over to the next part 3:

Yeah, you can do it. BBS was a pretty good looking game in general, and emulation mods can make it look better. :3

Re: GameTrailers' KINGDOM HEARTS Timeline Released!

The video was very well put together and the content was pretty accurate and understandable. Sure, there were a couple of things missing but still, they succeeded in explaining the core story in a very understandable manner (imo). Also, congrats on the peeps who worked together with GT to make sure the content was as accurate as it is.

Some trip down nostalgia lane, though. The music still gives me shivers.

"Though much of the game's narrative involves the friends sitting around eating ice cream"

I lol'd.
Overall very good! Just one slip up worth mentioning--I think it was a mistake not to talk briefly about 2.5 HD Remix. They make it sound like there's nothing between 1.5 and 3, so more casual fans might be disappointed by that revelation.

They definitely did their homework and covered all the major bases.
You can tell they engaged the fandom in constructing the timeline, especially with the use of everyone's favorite buzzword, "convoluted."

This was magnificent. I loved it. Accurate, engaging, animated, and pretty damn informative.

Everyone involved did a marvelous job.

It really got me hyped and excited about Kingdom Hearts again as a series. Reminded me how light-hearted yet compelling the series really is. Great video.

They really DID do their homework, though I'm sure they had great tutors

Re: GameTrailers' KINGDOM HEARTS Timeline Released!

king_mickey rule already stated most of the things I was about to say, lol.

This is definitely a gem for the more casual players/fans to understand the basic overaching story better and those "couple of things missing" are actually the topics that already go deeper into the mythology than it is needed for an informative overview.

The two main tasks of KH III, Sora destinied to save those in torment and the final clash with Xehanort are covered in detail, as are the more obvious confusing bits like two Ansem's, Vanitas looking like Goth-Sora and Roxas' twin-looks with Ventus.

The thing with 2.5 gelandporn mentioned has me concerned as well though, as the casual fanbase is known for taking such things literally they might truly expect KH III now directly after HD I.5.

Seeing that our staff actually served as advisers/experts on putting it together was truly something to behold, so no one can say the guys and gals at GT "didn't do their research".

I certainly hope this will have a hugely positive response in general. ^__^

That was really good .. for a retelling. Now I'd like to have a video that looks into specific plot details and presents theories based an hard evidence and facts from the numerous interviews.

With JPCSP it's easily possible to render BBS on higher resolution although the actual gameplay doesn't look so pretty.
Also credit where credit is due: The shown Apprentice Xehanort render was made by Soxra aka Soxxeh.

Wow amazing show! When I first hear of this I wouldn't have imagined they would go into this much detail into the series as a whole and explain the finer details of the series. Makes me want to go look up there Zelda timeline video.

That was a really good video! :D
I'm sure a lot of those "the side games don't matter" people, and confused fans, will gain quite a bit from this.

Re: GameTrailers' KINGDOM HEARTS Timeline Released!

I really wasn't sure how this was going to turn out when it was first teased.

But I can now say that I enjoyed every minute of that video. It was a rush of nostalgia goosebumps for me. The delivery and structure were very good. It's very evident a lot of work went into it, and not just 'cause it's super long. I'm not sure it could have been done any better.

Reading through the comments was nice; I got to see a bunch of people saying "I only played 1 and 2, and this clears up everything!", though I do wish they would have played the games (except maybe Days).

The one thing I thought it goofed on, though, was that it says Kairi was sent to Destiny Islands after Radiant Garden fell to darkness. It was actually Ansem SoD who sent her out into the World, hoping that she was a Princess and that she might lead him to the next Keybearer. Though I can understand why they didn't touch upon the Reports much given its nature as a summary.

Re: GameTrailers' KINGDOM HEARTS Timeline Released!

This was pretty good. I feel there were some things that were too vaguely worded and some other things that were left out that are quite necessary to the story, but overall it was detailed and covered the story to a great extent. It was also a very beautiful presentation, seeing the custom CGI as well as the higher resolution renderings of KH2 and BBS (though, sometimes it showed their original resolutions which was kind of distracting).

The main thing that wasn't covered that I think should have is Braig. He was present, but I don't think he was ever discussed by name. He, and Isa too, has a connection to Xehanort that none of the other characters in the series do and it is something that is probably go to play a bigger role later on, with some of the XIII darknesses undoubtedly being like them.

Kingdom Hearts is certainly a convoluted story, and things having to be left out is understandable. Watching this reminded me of why this series has kept my attention for so long and made me excited for the future of it so much more. Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to happen sooner or later, and I'm excite.
