It’s so exciting to see so many of my favorite Broadway performers on this list and it’ll be great to keep the consistency with the films.

I think we’ll see Kairi, Riku, Roxas, Aqua, and Mickey’s VAs in the next batch along with Mandy Moore, Santino Fontana, Ryan Potter, and VAs from TBA worlds. I just can’t see them not getting Mandy to return unless she has beef with Square Enix or something. Lol

Weird that they didn't confirm James Woods actually, since he can be clearly heard in one of the E3 trailers and said via Twitter that he had been recording lines for the new game.

I'd be very surprised if Mandy Moore doesn't come back, since she'd been working on the Tangled animated series so Disney has her in a recording studio anyways. Same with Big Hero 6, the current animated series still has most of the original voice cast so I can't imagine it would be difficult to snag them over to record for KH3.

I'm incredibly exciting to have the whole main Frozen cast back, I THOUGHT that was Kristen Bell and Idina Mendzel but heck I also used to think Danny DeVito was Phil in KH1 for a while lol. Also Zachary, of course, but I figured he would want reprise. And speaking of Donna Murphy! And confirmation Mother Gothel is in the game by proxy lol.

I echo worry about Mandy though, someone on Twitter is very dutifully replying to a bunch of people that she is doing This is Us. But I dunno. I realize we are getting stand-ins for like Woody, Buzz, Mike, and Sully but I can't imagine Mandy not being Rapunzel so here is hoping.

Good to see confirmation for Anna and Elsa's voices. Back during E3, Olaf being reprised by Josh Gad was plain as day but I couldn't tell if Anna and Elsa were convincing fakes or not. Lo and behold, it's the original voices! Great to hear. Looks like they're really pulling for an all-star cast on this one. No surprise that we're not getting Tom Hanks or Johnny Depp because their rates would be absolutely outrageous, but it's great to see how many they're still managing to hire for this project.

It's nice to have these confirmations at last! I knew the frozen cast sounded way too spot on to be anyone else. Not holding my breath for Johnny Depp to be in this but excited to see who else will be on board. Please Hayden and Mandy come back!

Very excited to see the original actors from Frozen comeback to reprise their roles, especially Idina Menzel coming back to voice Elsa, since most of us were debating from the E3 trailer back in June if it was her or a sound alike. At least she was able to voice her work as Elsa just before her Fall tour started. Hope that Santino Fontana is announced to return to voice Hans in the next batch.

Good to see Zachary Levi coming back for Flynn Rider and also Donna Murphy coming back as Mother Gothel, hell yeah. I had a feeling she was bound to return given that she tweeted to a fan three years ago that she was interested in reprising her role as Gothel as well as following the KH twitter page and reprising her role in an episode of Tangled: The series. Surprised that Mandy Moore was not announced alongside her other cast members hopefully she is announced in the next batch so she can reprise her role as Rapunzel, cause tbh, I can't envision someone else filling in for Mandy.

Wallace Shawn and John Ratzenberger, nothing new, since they were heard in the Toy Box cutscenes from the demo, but at least they are officially confirmed to come back.

It's been a while since Square Enix announced it's all-star cast for a KH title, yes BBS and DDD did it but not in the level as the KH2 press release back in 2006 when they mentioned the original Disney voice actors from the films coming back, I mean they listed Ming-Na Wen and Zachary Braff respectively.

I agree, frankly, it's a good decision not to use James Woods name in the press release given that it would be "bad publicity" to include someone that has been getting negative reception as of late from being banned from Twitter, being so "political" and being a racist jerk on the LGBT community, it's much different to how Square Enix put James Woods name in the BBS and KH2 press releases respectively 8-13 years ago.

I also don't think that T.J. Miller would come back to voice Fred (Big Hero 6) in the game and instead use Brooks Wheelan from the TV series given that Miller not only has Sexually Harassed someone back in College but also has been given a bad reception thanks to the Amtrak Bomb threat incident, work misconduct allegations and getting arrested.

I wouldn't worry. Mandy has been known for saying how much she loves playing as Rapunzel. Heck, the TV series wasn't going to get made if She and Zachary didn't come back. Thats how important it was for them. Besides we still have 4 months to go till release, there will be an update to the cast list for more announcements.

This applies for the Big Hero 6 cast as well, and they are pretty much a lock in at this point, since they should be starting to record for the show's second season.

I'm not ashamed to say I will be low key reading this as the most distant possible kind of fandom collision with Spring Awakening, just because the Melchior is in Kingdom Hearts. Also because "Those You've Known" is basically the adopted theme song of this game.

I think Johnny Depp might have actually voiced Jack this time around. I say that because I had just watched one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies around the time that trailer was shown at E3 and when Jack talked, it sounded JUST like Johnny Depp. If its not him, they did a MUCH better job getting a sound alike for Jack IMO.

This also gives me slight hope for Hayden reprising Kairi. I had wondered if perhaps, just maybe, Alyson was called solely to dub over the "Hey Axel!" line for the E3 trailer. The fact that she isn't on here is curious considering that, had Kairi's lines already been finished you'd think they would put her on here. Then again, maybe they only wanted to announce so many at a time.

Regardless, David Gallagher is also not on here yet I'm sure he'll be recast for Riku. So, perhaps there's still time to get Hayden back for Kairi, especially since her tweet talking about no one calling her had an obvious disappointed tone to it. Well, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise for her to get them confused especially if she was just voicing the trailer lines. Video game VAs rarely if ever get to do ensemble recording, they almost exclusively are alone in a booth witu nothing but the paper with their lines. It's apparently also not uncommon for VAs to not have any idea who they are voicing, especially early in the recording for a project. I'd imagine it's different with the actual Disney actors, but a VA by the name of Cissy Jones did an interview a few months ago where she talked about the weird situations career VAs are in. Like, relevant example: Cissy Jones is the VA for Fury, the main character of Darksiders 3. She did her voice for the announce trailer last year, but was never told what character she was playing or given any context for her two lines.

So, that all in mind, I would 100% be unsurprised if they just had Alyson in to voice the trailer, gave her no context, and she assumed that because her character was talking to Axel she'd be playing Xion again.

One of the things I love about the KH series is the fact that they managed to get a lot of the original VAs to voice the Disney characters. It's great to know that we got more VAs coming in to join, especially Idina Menzel.

With such in mind, it's amazing when we DO get great voice acting in games despite those circumstances.

Yeah, agreed. I'm glad SOME reform came out of the last VA strike, but I think more could be done. From the interviews I've seen, ensemble recording seems to produce more genuine and emotional performances. I wonder how typical SE is in that regard, actually.

I've heard of things like this before and it honestly baffles me. Why exactly are VAs often given no idea or context about the lines they're reading? I feel like that must make it so much more difficult for them to get into the role.

If I'm not wrong, the main reason, they say, is to avoid leaking things, but I don't think it's a good argument.

It'd be great if Hayden was able to voice Kairi for KH3 so she'd at least been able to voice her in all the direct sequels. It'd be one thing if she can't do it based on any schedule/health conflicts, but it'd be pretty sad if the reason was that SE never approached her in the first place :( I won't hate it if Alyson ends up doing all the voice work for Kairi in KH3 because I do like her voice, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss Hayden. As for David, I'm not worried at all; he's been consistent with voicing Riku so I don't see why he wouldn't be back for such a huge end-of-arc game. He's likely in the next batch.

On a brighter note, super impressed with the Disney cast! I definitely wasn't expecting much in terms of original VAs so I'm pleasantly surprised and delighted! Definitely hype.

Now that we're close to the release of the game, I'm REALLY curious who they're going to get for Master Xehanort in the English version. I've been wondering about it since Leonard Nimoy's passing.

Given how huge KH's cast is, I assume an ensemble recording just wouldn't be possible, schedule conflicts and all that.

I agree, and also it's been a while we had a huge all-star cast in a numbered title since the first KH game, better yet KH2, on the Disney side of things that is.

I mean for Kingdom Hearts II, besides bringing back the original actors who voiced Hercules, The Mayor of Halloween Town, and Prince Eric, they got most of the original voice cast from Mulan (minus Eddie Murphy and the late Miguel Ferrer) to come back, especially Pat Morita who was able to voice the Emperor of China before he passed away, which is the complete opposite for the Hunchback of Notre Dame world in DDD when none of the original actors from the film (minus Jason Alexander and Charles Kimbrough) came back to voice their characters as they either passed away or were very expensive to get for the game. But at least the actors that filled in for the characters particularly, Phoebus and Quasimodo did an excellent job voicing the characters and sounding very close to the original actors from the film.

But back on Kingdom Hearts III, as a Disney fan, I find this to be very exciting news to see the original actors from the films to come back to reprise their roles, especially with Donna Murphy and Idina Menzel involved in the game.

You mean Stick from Daredevil? He does have that rasp in his voice for sure, but I wonder if his voice might be a bit too high-pitched in comparison to how Leonard Nimoy performed MX.

I remember Brittany Snow’s interview where she tried to explain who Namine is, and came up with “she’s Kairi’s alter ego”. Just got a chuckle out of me, it’s not easy to explain KH’s plot! But yeah I’d love to see these kind of interviews, I don’t think we’ve seen them since II, the last time we had a ton of original voices back. I think it’s not out of the question we’ll get them this time, if they’re promoting announcements like this.

Me too, I'd be surprised if Disney/Square Enix don't release a Behind the Scenes video of KH3 given the massive hype that fans have been waiting for and it's one of the biggest titles that fans have been looking for. I'd imagine one that talks about the gameplay/story (without revealing too much on the story) and the other related to the voice cast involved in the game, featuring interviews of the actors from the game.

Oh most definitely, I really would like for the premiere event to happen either at the same place where they had the KH3 Premiere event back in May, The Anaheim convention center or somewhere at The Walt Disney Studios lot. But just imagine the voice cast for the game and the stars from the current Disney Channel shows and projects being present at the event.

One thing I'm hoping at the premiere is that the interviewer(s) don't disregard the other KH titles (particularly Dream Drop Distance) when they say "Kingdom Hearts III continues where Kingdom Hearts II left off" much like how Sterling (Disney 411) disregarded Chain of Memories and said that KH2 continues where the first game left off.

Also, I know this might seem far-fetched but I would love if they had Kingdom Hearts III/Kingdom Hearts contenteither as clips during some of the nighttime show(s) at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom or at World of Color at Disney California Adventure, unlikely it would happen due to cost, scheduling, and testing but hey a guy can dream. I doubt most interviewers who would be at this hypothetical red carpet event would have much knowledge of the series. Your average casual KH fan assumes 1,2, and 3 are the "main" games and that all the others are just games that add padding but aren't necessary. Odds are high that most interviewers would do exactly as you mentioned as assume that KH3 is a direct sequel to KH2 and say something like "fans have been waiting 13 years since the last game came out" or something along those lines.

Even though I would prefer if Square Enix announced her name in the next batch of cast announcements, I actually am grateful that she finally gets to announce her reprisal through social media. From a narrative standpoint, it makes sense cause even though she is known for her work as Meg (Hercules), Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz (Steven Universe) and her roles on Broadway as she was the original Belle in the musical, she doesn't have too many well-known television and film credits compared to the other actors that were featured on the first batch of announcements, unless if you count Nikki or 13 Going on 30.

Can't believe not only has it been 21 years since she voiced Meg in the original film, but also 12 1/2 years since she last voiced her in Kingdom Hearts II.

Quite the plethora of Broadway actors involved in this game: Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy and now Susan Egan. This is starting to become the biggest all-star cast lineup since the first game better yet, Kingdom Hearts II.

This is...very stupid of me for asking, it really is...and I doubt they will, but...what REALLY are the possibilities of the PotC cast coming the KH3? I heard that Gibbs' actor is confirmed in, but...idk it just makes me think, is it possible to get the actors? If not a partial half of them? I WANT to believe that I heard Johnny Depp in the Port Royal trailer...but it's still doubtful. Just...what do you guys think?

Also according to the IMDB Scott Adsit is returning as Baymax! I'm so glad that he's gonna be Baymax again and not some voice alike.

IMDB says that because he did an interview in February where he said he would always voice Baymax at any opportunity. It was some great early stealth confirmation :)

Probably not very likely. Most of the big name actors are notoriously difficult to get schedules for unless contracts are involved like with Frozen staff. I mean, they didn't get Robin Williams to voice Genie in the original games, for instance.

For the most part, if they can't get the original people in on it, they usually go for soundalikes. No one complained about the guy who voiced Jack Sparrow in KHII.

Basically just be happy there ARE big names and original VAs in here.

RIP Leonard Nimoy, we miss you still.

Then again, it's still unannounced who is doing Xehanort, but unfortunately I have to say the odds of them getting the dialogue from either of the actor before they passed is slim to none.

Pixar films don't return to the KH games since usually, it happens all the time with most actors.

From a narrative standpoint, I can understand that as most of the casting decisions are done at Disney Character Voices handles all the casting for the Disney and Pixar characters. With the Pixar Characters, Tasha said that for any side projects, Pixar does reach out to the original voice actors first and have a "first right of refusal". Once that original voice actor refuses, then they go to a sound-alike.

So technically it comes down to these factors:

1. Some actors don't do side projects (e.g. The Big name actors who provided the voice of Simba, Genie, Mushu, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jack Sparrow, etc. from the films)
2. Some do all of it (e.g. the actors who voiced the recent Disney Princesses, the Frozen actors, etc..)
3. Some are 50/50.

Frankly, the sound-alike actors who voiced Phil, Will Turner, Barbossa, along with

Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski, and Sulley for Kingdom Hearts III,

and especially the actors who voiced the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tron: Legacy characters in Dream Drop Distance respectively do an excellent job voicing their characters and honestly they sound a lot like the original actor from the movie, I can't tell the difference, For the other sound-alike actors in previous installments not so much (e.g. James Horan as Scar).

I think the biggest surprise for me on Disney/Square Enix bringing in one of the original actors from the film is when Christopher Daniel Barnes came back to reprise his role as Prince Eric in Kingdom Hearts II as he didn't voice his character in any other appearances after the original film.

I agree with your example with Robin Williams, even though he was an avid Videogamer (as he like the Legend of Zelda games) I think the reason he didn't return to voice the Genie was like you said he was a big name actor but also the fact his film, Bicentennial Man (distributed by Touchstone Pictures) bombed at the Box Office and had another disagreement with Disney once again.

As disappointed I am that Johnny Depp isn't gonna play Jack, I shouldn't excpet anything less, as said before that those blockbuster VAs are a bit difficult to find. Though I've gotta hand it to Jared, cause...he really got it down to the wire. That being said, can't wait for the game.

Is Jim Cummings coming back to voice Winnie the Pooh? Do we even have any indication that the Hundred Acre Woods is returning? I really hope it is. If Hundred Acre Wood doesn't come back in KH3 I'm going to riot. But you probably won't hear about it in the news or anything because it'll just be me... a one man riot. I really like Winnie the Pooh.

Also due to the Monsters Inc. leak earlier this year, we believe 100 Acre Woods might be returning. Nothing is 100% confirmed as of right now, though.

Nothing has been confirmed regarding 100 Acre Wood's appearance so far yet. I think you might be thinking of the panel when Jim was at ABQComic Con back in 2016 when a fan asked him regarding the process of how the Kingdom Hearts games were recording and mention the characters he voiced in the series (e.g. Pete, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger)

As Oracle Spockanort posted earlier from her post the ONLY mention of 100 Acre Wood was from the leaks back in December where it featured assets of Rabbit's House, then again, we're not sure if it's the actual 100 Acre Wood world, a summoning link for Pooh or in the vein as the Honey Pot Command Board from BBS. We're going to have to wait until we get more information from trailers or when the game officially comes out regarding 100 Acre Wood.

Of course they would know about the leak. They were just caught in an awkward situation where they either had to deny it - which would have been lying and this fan base loves to get riled up at the smallest thing - or admit it’s real which would have required major marketing schedules to change (outside of revealing the world at D23).

Of course, aside from the fact that they have people who watch fansites for that type of thing, we informed Square and Disney Pixar the second we realized the leak was legitimate with a lengthy explanation to the best of our knowledge of how it happened. (A lot of places were incorrectly sourcing us as the source of the leak, so, as you can imagine we wanted to squash that right away)



Word. Though, lately I've been wondering about those assets. A lot of what was leaked has shown up as set pieces in KHVR...so, it's possible that may be another thing for that.
