GTX here. I have some results from an update that I posted a little while ago.
A couple of days before, we posted a recipe on how to make your very own paopu cookies. A big thanks to eversor, who provided us with the recipe. Well Cassie, a member who saw that update, made her very own. And she was nice enough to send us some pictures of the results. Click on the thimbnails below to get a better view.
If you would like to make your own click the thumbnail below for some instructions, or click read more. If you guys manage to take some pictures of your own creations, feel free to send them to monkeykhi@hotmail.com. We will post more pictures on a future update. Enjoy the rest of the week.
Paopu Cookies
(rolled sugar cookies)
Note: This recipe makes quite a lot of cookies. So if you just want to make a few paopu cookies, freeze the dough and use it some other time or cut the rest of the dough into other shapes. I would try to make a smaller recipe, but its kind of ridiculous to use one third of an egg... So hopefully everyone wants to have a Kingdom Hearts party or give away a lot of paopu cookies to friends.
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla & 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
OR
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
You will need a big spoon, a beater, a big mixing bowl, measuring cups for the ingredients, plastic wrap, a rolling pin, extra flour for rolling in, a star shaped cookie cutter and other cookie cutters if you want.
Blend together butter and sugar. Mix in egg, vanilla/almond extract. Add dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt). Blend everything together well so there are no lumps. Refrigerate 1-2 hours. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters.
Cookie Cutters: Near the beginning of Kingdom Hearts you see Sora holding a paopu fruit, which allows you to guess the general size of the fruit. Its about as big as his hands, around 7 inches in diameter. Though in an official art picture of Riku, it is shown to be a lot smaller. Anyways, I have not been able to find any star shaped cookie cutter that is big enough. I used a normal sized star cookie cutter to make this fruit (3 inches in diameter). After you cut the cookie, you will want to shape it to more of a paopu shape, softer and rounder. Use the picture provided as a model. Make the ends rounder and shorter and don't forget to shape a stem! The picture shows 3 sort of stems, I only made the top one. The bottom two are too fragile, they would just break off, plus the paopu doesn't always need those other two stems. If you want you can shape a bite in the fruit as well.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Cool.
Ice and decorate.
Decorating: I used a mixture of powdered sugar and milk for the icing. Use a small bowl and a spoon, pour in some powdered sugar and a little bit of milk until it is the right consistency. Use a lot of powdered sugar and very little milk, you want it to be pretty thick, spreadable, but not runny so it stays in place on the cookie. When you are happy with the thickness, mix a drop of yellow food coloring in the icing. If you want it to be a little more orange, try adding a very little bit of red if you wish, but not too much! Use the icing right away, or it will dry. Spread the icing on the cookies but not on the part where the stem goes! If you have any yellow sprinkles, try putting some of those on. Wait for the yellow icing to harden. Once it has, then make the icing for the stem. Just add a drop of green food coloring instead. Spread that on and wait for it to dry.
These cookies can be frozen for later consumption, or you can eat them or give them away to someone special. Enjoy! ^_^
