The latest update for the free Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience interactive expansion dropped on July 24th 2019 in the United States and July 25th 2019 in Japan for PlayStation VR. We here at Kingdom Hearts Insider have taken the liberty to record the recent additions to the game and share them for those without VR headsets.
The expansion adds in multiple new scenarios, a welcome addition over the pitiful 10 minutes of scenario that was available within release. Now fans can eat ice cream in Twilight Town with Xion and Axel, confront Marluxia in Castle Oblivion, fight Heartless in Olympus Coliseum, and confront Xemnas in The World That Never Was, all while enjoying music and projections highlighting various moments from across the Kingdom Hearts series.
Also added into the update is a journal mode, which takes players to the Station of Awakening where they can flip through Jiminy's Journal and view characters and moments highlighting them and their journeys across Kingdom Hearts. The update also adds in motion controller support, which lets the player take over control of Roxas's hands (which lets him eat the ice cream) and wield the Keyblade in the fight against Heartless.
This update is a worthwhile expansion to the experience, and ultimately it is what it should have launched with. The content is enticing and exciting, and it's thrilling to be put first hand into iconic moments from the Kingdom Hearts series. Whereas it seemed like the original release was unnecessary and pointless, now we really hope for more updates to come, adding in more scenes from Birth by Sleep, Re:coded, Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts III.
