Today, The Walt Disney Company announced their plans to merge their game development division Disney Interactive and their consumer products division into one combined segment of the company. The new division, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI), will be co-run by co-chairs Leslie Ferraro and Jimmy Pitaro.
This merger of the two divisions was done in response to the growth of technology in the consumer marketplace, with the hopes that the new division can "share technological expertise and maximize opportunities and efficiencies" while building strategies to deliver the most cutting-edge, interactive consumer experiences and products on the market.
A brand new team in the merged division called DCPI Labs will focus on creating new products that go beyond the expectations of the consumers by using the latest technology. Disney plans to report the combined businesses for financial reporting purposes at the start of their new fiscal year of 2016, beginning late-September 2015.

As for what this means for the future, and how it relates to Kingdom Hearts? Who knows, but maybe we are just one more step forward to the day we will finally see Kingdom Hearts in Disney Infinity! With the high demand and interest being acknowledged by Disney staff, as well as Disney's increased involvement with Kingdom Hearts 3's promotion, it definitely seems to be more likely. After all, what better way to promote both Disney Infinity and Kingdom Hearts 3 than by killing two birds with one stone by incorporating Sora into the world of Infinity?
