Bruce Boxleitner, actor of the titular character Tron and his human user Alan Bradley from the TRON franchise, was recently interviewed by /Film at the Hallmark Channel’s Television Critics Association summer press tour party promoting his TV show Cedar Cove where he was asked about his thoughts on TRON 3 and if it may ever be revived in the future.
Boxleitner had been a massive advocate of keeping the hope for TRON alive in the past and always seemed happy to reprise his role as Tron and Alan Bradley in works like TRON: Legacy, TRON 2.0, Kingdom Hearts II, and the cancelled animated series TRON: Uprising. It seems even the most passionate have their limits, and Disney reached them for Boxleitner as he remarked, "I’m done with it. I’ve moved on. I hate to say that but it’s been too up and down for me. I would rather not just keep going."
The actor continued to discuss how the third TRON film had been really close to starting production, but it appeared Disney just wasn't interested in continuing the franchise, citing that Disney is much more concentrated on Marvel, Star Wars, and their classic Disney live action adaptions now.
But, what does this mean for us? One of the appealing aspects of the Kingdom Hearts series has always been the fact that many of the original actors from the Disney films featured in the series would reprise their roles to provide an authentic feel to the games. While we have very little idea of what content will be in Kingdom Hearts III, fans have always assumed that we would see Tron again even if it was just a minor role or would make a grand return to the Space Paranoids world located inside of Radiant Garden's computer.
Considering Boxleitner's words, though, even if TRON does appear in the upcoming game it may be without him behind the voice.

honeslty i don't think we were going to see tron in kingdom hearts 3
idk Sora spent most of his time in the Grid in KH3D trying to save Tron. I doubt the KH2 callback was all for nothing if we weren't going to at least have a "HI SORA" in KH3 as he walked into the computer room. And we still have to use the computer in order to access the Chamber of Repose.

I really want to see Tron again. DDD made his impact on Sora more interesting, which is sad seeing how a lot of Disney characters(besides the main cast) don't affect him in any way.

I don't know. It kind of just sounds like he's done with advocating for Tron 3 and pushing for it to happen and the like. Like, he's done going out of his way to try and get things started with Tron, but if S-E came to him with a guaranteed role, I'd imagine he'd still be for it.

That was also how I read it at first, but at the same time he seems done with the entire situation not just with the film but the entire franchise especially when he says "For me, I think it’s time to move on."
I can't imagine him passing up work. Everybody likes getting paid, but that apathy towards the franchise now could still be very off-putting.

They don't really have to go to a world, though. He can just be on a video screen or a disembodied voice or a hologram.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will feel incomplete without Tron in some shape or form. He was such a pivotal part of Kingdom Hearts 2 that it feels wrong to not include him. They always could get a sound-alike, but it wouldn't be the same.

Hmm. Indeed it would be kinda sad not to hear the original person doing the work. I do wonder how on earth we are going to access the Chamber thou. It seems that only Xemans has the disc which triggers the password input sequence. Guess we have to get that, or try to find another way to get past that.

Not really, but it'd be a waste of showing it existed without actually visiting it and having Sora discover the mystery behind it. We already know about it, but the characters themselves don't and it should be used as a clue on finding Ven and Aqua rather than it just being easy and somebody finds Aqua through sheer will.

Too bad. I always hoped Tron would be back in 3 in a type of Jarvis role. A disembodied voice aiding your journey through Radiant Garden or in the Gummi Ship. Collecting intel and research then relaying the info from behind (or in Tron's case inside) the computer.

Since The Grid and Space Paranoids have been established as 2 separate worlds, perhaps in KH3 they could merge the two to create a unified Tron world. This way KH could offer its own interpretation of what happens on the grid after the second movie. It would also provide the excuse to introduce characters from the TRON: Uprising TV show and explore what happens to them after the show's cliffhanger ending.

Poor dude, I can't blame him for throwing in the towel. Its a huge shame, because the TRON fandom has been persistent in the face of disappointment for years, still throws cons, and has supported his and the other actors' works. I know he been frustrated with the franchise for a long while, especially with their erasure of Yori and other characters from the original film. Especially since he's real close friends with Cindy Morgan.

He was one of the only Disney characters I actually cared about in KHII... He was the only one that had an arc over multiple games that I truly cared about. I felt sad for him when he fell in Sora's story when he was at The Grid

Tron has to come back because his name spelled backwards is Nort like Xehanort and somehow I don't think it's a coincidence they threw Tron into the game series.

If you're a TRON fan? Absolutely. Its more of a side story, but its a really good one. Covers the ISO genocide and really expands the Grid as a world.
TBH, I think it would've been a cooler world to have over Legacy.

Well, I'm a big Tron fan. I played it at a Tron installation some years back at a cafe but I never actually picked the game up, but I know the story very well with the viruses and ISO genocide. It's good to know it is fun to play.

Given the KO status of the Tron-verse, I would hope the mouse house would give SE some creative power to continue to use the Tron franchise in the games. Since Tron was such a major part of KH2 and 3D, it wouldn't seem right to completely ignore the franchise going forward even if they used up both film's stories so far.
As for Boxlientner, I took the comments as he's done with the hope/ waiting for Tron 3 after the mouse house completely screwed the franchise over a couple of months ago. I think he'd gladly come back to voice Tron in KH3 or any future game he's involved.

I don't think so, I played it and it's pretty meh all around. Tron 2.0 is still the ultimate Tron game even if the ending was terrible.

When Quorra is talking about her backstory on the solar sailor to Sam, and how a "program smuggled her out of the city", that's your character in Evolution. Really pleased in how they brought that about. So I do recommend it, it's rather cheap to find. Although gameplay gets boring after awhile, it's a neat thing to have if you're a Tron fan.
I was lucky enough to get the bad ass CE with a replica light cycle display that lights up and stores the game case. There only $30 on Amazon new, amazingly enough, so you're saving $100 from the original price back in 2010.

Aw. That's a shame, and it sucks that Disney dropped Tron - both for Uprising and Tron 3.
During Uprising, sometimes he really sounded like Steve Blum, mostly when he was in "villain" mode. Steve is my suggestion for a recast.
On the other hand, SE seems to be fans of Tron, maybe they could convince him to come back since they really do share his love for Tron?

Wow, this was unexpected. But with Tron 3 being so close to production and then having it canceled right in your face, I can understand Boxleitner feelings.

Well Ansem did decide, "hey this arcade game is so advanced that it could easily power a whole city", and somehow got Space paranoids coped (licensees are likely, I don't think politications pirating stuff would go over well), then again it all depends on if the Ansem that actually got Space Paranoids was really Ansem the Wise instead of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness
Still I think the name is a bit of a stretch though, its more likely that they just need some AI characters for the OS thing.

Ansem the Wise was the one who managed to copy ENCOM's security system (not an arcade game, though the name is misleading) onto the Hollow Bastion OS. Tron says that the Ansem he knew wouldn't have done the awful things that Ansem SoD did later, confirming that Ansem the Wise was at least the one who set up the system.

Disney has been horrible about Tron. They basically killed Uprising on purpose, with the random hiatuses and changing the time that they aired new episodes to like 1:00 am on Monday nights or some crap like that without announcing it ANYWHERE.
I'd be mega pissed at Disney too, heck, I am pissed at them. They put uprising so low on their priorities so they could air sh*t like lab rats...
But anyway, what tinny said, it's not the system of an arcade game, rather the system that ran a Fortune 500 company.
And Tron evolution is a pretty good game, the visuals are spectacular and it's a lot of fun platforming and and combat, I recommend it for tron fans. The online multiplayer is pretty fun too, if there are still people playing it lol

That's pretty sad to hear about but given how rottenly Disney has been treating the Tron franchise I'm not too surprised he'd had enough of that kind of bull. I wonder if somehow SE would probably take elements of Tron 3 and add it to KH3 should Tron return. I know it's not really basing off an actual movie but if it's to add closure to Tron in the current saga I would be fine with it. Though if that does happen would Bruce Boxleitner be willing to do it? I mean SE didn't give him a hard time when it comes to Tron unlike Disney.

There's one thing I've learned from this franchise: CHARACTERS DON'T DIE. And even if they do, there will always be some BS way to deus-ex-machina them back into existence.
I can see a way that they could've included a CLU fight in DDD, easily: fight him instead of the Commantis. Or, fight him alongside the Commantis, sort of like an evil tag team we've seen from time to time. If that happened, almost nothing in The Grid's story would have changed, but you'd get the catharsis of beating down a genocidal megalomaniac.

again but at the same time.. I really want to see ALOT of new worlds, like Square Enix have promised.
