Will Sora Be Alone?

Gotta be real, I have no faith that we will get a mainline entry that will deviate from the formula - I think expecting that would tee me up for a major disappointment. Similar to how I always anticipated Sora to save everyone in KHIII and the other guardians not contributing much, I think Sora will team up with Donald and Goofy for 90% of the gameplay.

My prediction is that Quadratum will be a pretty hefty prologue a la the KHII Roxas section - and that will be without Donald and Goofy - but afterwards will be business as usual. I wouldn't even be surprised if Sora and Riku didn't meet in the first Quadratum section and their separation as well as the separation from Kairi will be drawn out for most of the game. Maybe Riku will get his ass beat by Yozora and crystallised or kidnapped, who knows?

But yeah ... that's my kinda cynical take. I still think and hope it's gonna be good and fun and we're gonna have a fun time with Strelitzia in Quadratum. But I don't have any expectations for a break in formula.

God, it would be so nice to just have different party members for a significant amount of play time in KH4. The Dream Eaters in DDD were meh but having other Keyblade wielders as party members like Axel or Roxas or Ventus in Re:Mind just felt so cool.

I still love D&G to death but I'd like something fresh. Even if just for a while.

I like the idea of Strelitzia being one of Sora's main party members in the game.
As for Donald and Goofy, assuming Sora doesn’t return to the realm of light by the end of the story,
I'd like to see them succeed in finding Sora and then they start traveling together again to find another way home setting up the stage for the next game/Kingdom Hearts V.

D&G just BS'ing their way into Quadratum just by getting "killed by Hades"[seriously that wouldn't even send them to the Final World, that'd just leave 'em in the Underworld cuz they died on Hades' turf. He can apparently yoink souls from the Final World into the Underworld but I don't think he can go the other way around]and then just finding Sora first feels kinda like...a cheap way to return to the basic formula.

I think this would give them an opportunity for some storytelling that shows some interactions with just Sora and Donald. Or just him and Goofy. We haven’t really had many 1:1 interactions between these characters throughout the series. I think it’d be a nice change of pace.

It would also be good motivation for Sora to search the worlds, calling back to KH1 when he was looking for Riku and Kairi. They could also creatively integrate finding them into the story of the particular world. For example, imagine Goofy ending up frozen in carbonite on Tatooine alongside Han Solo. This would give Sora a reason to team up with Luke to rescue them.

I’m hopeful with the Neo: TWEWY writer on board that they will be focusing more on character relationships including SDG. One of the strongest elements of both that game and Rebirth was the character relationships.

I also wouldn’t mind a new party member that doesn’t quite see eye to eye with Sora. Since Chain of Memories, there hasn’t been much conflict within the party at all. I’d like to see how Sora works with someone whose goals don’t quite line up with his own again.

I do think it's about time for a legitimate "Square" party to contrast SDG. I once had a thought about what if Sora had Leon and Yuffie for a party, or if KH1 decided to push limits and do a five-man party of SDGLY.

On the topic of Aya, she’s easily one of my favorite SE characters. Well, I haven’t played the other two games and I heard Third Birthday sorta ruins her. I’d love for her to be in KH.
