oh my god, i totally forgot the game awards was last night and slept through it all.
that new elden ring game looks interesting but i hope it doesn’t turn out to be massive asset reuse. the DLC just released this year after all.
big congrats to astro bot for winning goty! who knew making a mario galaxy-esque game would turn out to be a good idea!
next year is bound to be the year for kh fans. i can’t imagine the drought continuing on too much longer.
by the time it’s mid/early 2025, they should be ready to show us something substantial (granted that they run into no developmental issue)

The well on Rebirth will have basically run dry with the PC port. With rumors of the Switch 2 reveal late January/early February, maybe they’re intentionally releasing the port just before that announcement happens and they finally move on to whatever is next.
We could also get a State of Play around that time considering Sony has to show more of Ghost of Yotei.
But honestly, I would like just a KH 2025 trailer early next year that announces ML pre-registration, shows KH4, and whatever else is coming down the pipeline for the series. I don’t think there will be another big multiplatform event where they can show both games together until SGF. (I hope ML won’t take that long.) So they might as well just do their own thing.

For what it's worth, Metaphor is also the response to years of hearing that the reason FF went action is because turn based RPGs don't sell. So seeing Atlus be happy with Metaphor and SE claim that FF7R2 is underperforming (not to comment on the sales themselves, they're different games with different sales goals) is cathartic for some FF fans that feel left behind.

It’s possible Missing Link will release around September next year. Might seem like a long delay, but clearly they aren’t in a rush to get this game out. I think they want to release it at the right time of year for weather and close in proximity to KH4 to have a fixed amount of consistent story updates. It also gives them plenty of time for graphic improvements, localization work, and likely a global beta.
September will be the 10th anniversary of UX in Japan. It’s also when DQ Walk released so there’s precedent for them to release a geolocation game that month. I think they were originally targeting Sept. this year before the internal delay going by the botched pre-reg announcement from June.
Around May/June, ML’s pre-reg will be announced and KH4 re-revealed. ML will release in September and KH4 in April 2026. I hope I’m wrong as I really want KH4 to be at Star Wars celebration. But I’m not gonna hold on to that notion at this point.

They won't but they should. Any other name, even "Super Switch", could potentially have customers thinking it's a pro model rather than next-gen. Numbers work, the masses get numbers. Apple has them all well-trained on that. Besides, Switch 2 means eventually having a Switch 3, a Switch 4, a Switch 27, etc. What would they call the 3rd gen if the 2nd had some other name?
Were it up to me, I'd take the hybrid concept to ludicrous extremes. Handheld form is DS-like with 2 screens. Then the top screen detaches & put in the dock while the player still has the bottom screen with the controls. In other words, a DS/Wii U hybrid. & top of that, it would come with a VR headset shell that the top screen can also go inside of so it would be a DS/Wii U/VR hybrid.
OK, maybe only I want that...

I miss portables like the 3DS and the game design that comes with it: short bursts of gameplay that you can fit into your routine while commuting or waiting to meet up with someone in a café, but with actual complexity and game design unlike mobile stuff. Cool little lifestyle features like Streetpass, too!
New Leaf was the best Animal Crossing because of this. I'd hop in, maybe water the flowers, check in with some of the neighbors, fish or hunt some insects for a little while, then leave. Then come back a handful of times throughout the day. It was great!

Cynical claims in his latest video that a source told him SE is planning their own presentation/showcase in February and that’s why we haven’t heard anything at TGA, etc.
Definitely take it with a grain of salt, but I think this would actually track. They need to save the money on marketing and it’s cheaper to do it internally. It would likely be shortly after the rumored Switch 2 reveal, so they’d be free to show any games in development for that platform. And obviously they are backed up on announcements and have a lot that could generate significant hype for their own event. DQ1&2, DQ12, FF9, Remake Part 3 name reveal, ML, KH4, new Yoko Taro project, new Yoshi-P project, etc.
