i love ff7 rebirth so much but I'm rooting for Astro Bot to win-- i think a game like that winning could send a really good message out to the industry regarding crunch, overbudgeting, and games with scope a million miles wide

That's a fair point, but I think that's why it got best direction. Having played both, Rebirth left the much stronger impact on me overall. I finished it thinking there was no way it wouldn't be taking GOTY & yet that's now very much in question.

We'll probably see that Co-OP Elden Ring game get GOTY next year too

I disagree, I think this game looks interesting, graphics are really nice. I think it might be a day one buy for me
