Yes, I use Photoshop for everything I make.

These aren't bad at all, quite honestly I'm assuming you're just getting into graphic designing so it's ok. The BBS trio style is the most appealing, overall these are just practice so you can submit as much as you like kiddo. I would go on livejournal, tumblr and look up avatar, signature tutorials to further your experience.
