I just saw this movie tonight and I really did like it. So, on the way home I was thinking of how much fun it would be adapting it into a role-play. Some ideas have been circulatin' in my head throughout the night, but it's just a mess of jumbled thoughts at the moment; something I'll have organized tomorrow and posted here, when I'm not so sleepy. I was thinking a prequel but nothing's set in stone, so I welcome everyone's ideas.

Anyone up for it?

FUCK YOU

I was gonna make a thread for a roleplay of this as soon as I got home after having seen it.

Anyway, I'd be hella up for it, if it can be made convincing and good etc.

I’m happy to see people are interested. I guess it’s time to spew out some ideas then.
What I had in mind was establishing the plot shortly after the RDA’s settling of Hell’s Gate, in which the Avatar Program would still be in its early years. This timeframe would encompass things such as first contact, periods of instability caused by the warring tribes of the Na’vi, and other things I really can’t help to think of at the moment.
I’ll be on later tonight to provide more ideas, but as for now I’ll be signing off.

Well, we won't know anything if you don't say it, go right ahead.

Keep in mind, we're not certain how to legitimately make a sequel roleplay, I mean we can predict that more humans will come to try to remove the Na'vi and get the unobtanium, but that's also a bit too predictable.

We know roughly what happened between first contact and the movie, so that gives a foundation upon which to build a prequel roleplay.

This RP is going to be based on the movie Avatar by James Cameron. It will take place 10 years after the end of the movie in 2164. After the crushing defeat of the RDA and their retreat off the world of Pandora the Na'vi know a time of relative peace. Jake Sully and Neytiri lead a happy life together near the sacred tree in the floating mountains. The RDA returned just a few miles away from the ruins of the hometree and built a large pre-fabricated base. The RDA not only intent on breaking even on their previous attempt to mine Unobtainium but to exact revenge on the Na'vi for their crushing defeat in the past. Their security forces are led by Commander Quaritch, the grandchild of the late Colonel Miles Quaritch. The RDA are using new tactics with their knowledge of the Na'vi and their combat styles passed on by the survivors of the first conflict on Pandora. The RDA reinstated the avatar program attempting to use the avatars as spies and black op agents instead of diplomats. Some of the avatars have decided to defect to the Na'vi as Jake did, they operate in stolen RDA equipment run and maintained by Norm Spellman in a mobile lab near the Na'vi village. Even some humans have joined the Na'vi cause betraying their human roots. The Na'vi are calling on champions warriors from other tribes to aid their cause, while the RDA are calling on soldiers of all nations or mercenaries to come to the front. Who will win? Will the valiant Na'vi fall to the RDA's drive for money? Or will they beat back humanity as they did in the past? Only time will tell.

for your dissection i thought this up last night made for another site you can tell by the format.

I'd like to see an RP like that, but I've only seen previews of it and I would like to watch it before I sign up but...

The idea proposed by smokespecter is an average one. It doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't sound overly good. Seems just like more of the same, except with more persistent humans. I think a moderate/severe departure from the movie is a good way to go for a sequel.

My thoughts on a sequel is somewhat like smokespectors idea. But mine is based further along in the future than just 10 years and not only do they want to mine the unobtanium but also want to kill off all the tribes of the Na'vi and ultimatly create a new world for humans so that refugees from earth can come and live on Pandora.

The only downside to prequels is there is a set destination, going into it you already know how its going to end.

True, human colonisation of the planet would be a key goal for humans in any sequel to Avatar, but I just think there needs to be something more than that, to stand out.

I can definitely understand how a prequel can be limiting when you are bound to reach a pre-determined end. I don't see this as a major problem, however, seeing as how I accepted that fact when I had suggested the prequel idea. As ∞ had said, we have a foundation for a prequel, giving us a lot of leeway with what happens prior to the events of Avatar.

While I could possibly be convinced to a sequel, the plot you proposed, xxsmokespecterxx, just isn't very attractive to me, only because it's what would be expected of a sequel. Does that make sense? It's just something I couldn't see myself having fun with.

Coming back to what's ∞'s said again, it needs something that distinguishes it from the predictable.
