Land of Departure
First Appearance: KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep (2010)
Land of Departure is a beautiful world nestled between the Realm of Darkness and the Realm of Light. It has a lush green landscape with mountains that have cascading waters. There's also an impressive white and gold building on top with spires and towers protruding from both sides.
In Birth by Sleep the Land of Departure serves as a home for the three main characters: Aqua, Terra, and Ven as they train under Master Eraqus to become keyblade masters. We are introduced to the world at the beginning of the game as Terra and Aqua attempt their Mark of Mastery examination (Ven was not ready) in order to become fully fledged keyblade masters. Aqua passes her Mark of Mastery; however, Terra falters by using the darkness in his heart and consequently failed.
When the trio leaves the Land of Departure for their adventure, they don't come back for some time. However, Terra returns to save Ven when Master Eraqus attempts to erase him. Then when Master Xehanort takes down Master Eraqus the world is inaccessible.
When Ven loses his heart at the end of Birth by Sleep, Aqua returns to the Land of Departure in order to hide Ven away. Aqua seals the keyhole to the world and when that happens a device is activated in the castle and it turns the world into a familiar place - Castle Oblivion. Where anyone who enters the castle is drawn into oblivion.
