The news that everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived! Out of the blue, Jesse McCartney uploads a picture onto his Instagram showing off him inside the recording booth, confirming that localization has begun for KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMIX! We can't wait to see what else is in store!

They always keep it a secret.
And they likely could be nearing completion with the voice acting. It's hard to say if it's just Jesse who's done or if it's everyone.
Typically yes, the battle grunts are saved for last, but that is more the grunts we get when we're smashing the X button in battle. The grunt we saw him make wasn't for battle, but for a cutscene. So I don't think those should be counted the same.
We just got the video today, so we (pretty much) have localization confirmation, but not a release date. This could be Jesse's first day, his last day, or somewhere in the middle (the scene looked like one around a third of the way into the game imo).

Hm, something interesting to take from this is that we'll be seeing some actual boss battles in cutscenes. I wonder how these battles will be choreographed. We've seen combat in cutscenes before but it's never very long, I think the longest one is Sora vs. Roxas in KH2 and that's only like a minute. Also wonder which boss fights they have chosen to included.
Yes we get 1.5!!!!!!!!!! It's really cool that we got to see how it all works. I find it so fascinating to see the whole voice actor experince.

I'd like to think that they'd do an English dub for the extra scenes in KHFM. Plus lipsynching takes time since it usually requires the animators to completely reanimate the facial animation. Besides, I'm sure they'd want to promote it at E3 so it gets more attention.

Haha just 2 day ago I said that Kingdom Hearts will prob not come here to NA but now after seeing Jessie do the voice over oh how wrong am I. I will never doubt u again Kingdom Hearts!! Days is the only thing that needs new English voicing. All the new FM content either had no voices or was the Xemnas one that used archive recordings. FM content does need text translating but not very much and will take them very little time to do. And sense it seems Days recording is wrapping up.... well, all that's left is syncing up their faces to fit with English voices.

I guess they could record the extra KH2FM stuff now, but that wouldn't really delay the game sense it has nothing to do with 1.5. With how complete English localization is seeming to be, putting it off until E3 seem pretty unnecessary. Sure, they'd be able to advertise it a little more, but there are other ways to market than E3.

That isn't the case with this game.
While Type-0 was a new game for a dying console, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is a HD remaster of an old game and it's going onto a console that has had a lot of success.
I'd keep in mind that the purpose of KHHD is to return the series to consoles and give newer players the opportunity to experience the series without the system jumping. Since KINGDOM HEARTS is vastly more popular overseas, keeping it Japanese exclusive is incredibly counterproductive.
The PSP is a dying console because Sony wanted to. Do not come at me with that argument when Sony's the one with the wrong strategies.
Also, there are still games being released for the PSP, the same way it was for the PS2 even before last year, before its production finally ceased this month.
And SQEX isn't actually composed of the smartest minds, for what I know. Just look at the first Final Fantasy XIII and the scrapping of the american version of Type-0, a somewhat acclaimed game here on the west.

Yeah, the console not taking off with the Western audience like it did with the Eastern audience was totally within Sony's control.
Those games are few and far between and most companies aren't willing to risk the loss of profit on the off chance that the games might take off.
There is a fanbase for XIII, btw.

Just me as a fan but people should really hit Jesse McCartney up on his twitter to give him some love. Voice actors get into a lot of trouble over stuff like this like Pinwheel said earlier, so I imagine any encouragement would be nice.

The last thing of their recording sessions, yes. Dunno if they are treating it different since this isn't recording for gameplay battle cries but in-cutscene cries.
But yes, they usually keep it for last since it can be taxing on a voice actor.

This is the best news I've seen in a long time! I've been searching religiously to see if the HD collections would come stateside. But God Bless Jesse McCartney!!!!!!!! Not only will this allow us (and by us I mean mostly me cuz I am beyond syched for a KH game, more so than I have been in a while) to play Final Mix, but also, I haven't been able to play KH, KH2, and KH RE:CoM since my ps3 bit the dust and my replacement doesn't have backwards compatibility with PS2 games, and I don't really have money for a new ps2 yet....I am going to be counting down the days!!!

They need to translate more than just Days, not to mention they have to finish recording it and make sure the words match up with the mouths.

Yeah, so I honestly don't see how that would be a problem, cause whats the difference between re doing it and using the original. Won't it just come out exactly the same. It's not being lazy, its being efficient.
Honestly I think they should just recycle the old voices. I for one don't want to hear Osment's current voice for Sora in KH1. I feel the younger innocent sounding voice is better for Sora (at least in that game). and I've said this before, I don't like Epcar as Ansem SoD. I think they should keep Zane's voice, I know he won't be back for the future of the series, but at least give him his original credit!

They've already explained that they're switching the English voices from the original Final Mix back to the Japanese dub.

Epcar never violates the NDA. He's usually the first to say something once that is no longer an existing issue though.

I do agree with that predicted release date overseas, but there is far more content that just the addition of the Days scenes, which you don't seem to be aware of. Anyone can perform a rushed job, but who would want to when they're sacrificing quality and all their hard work for it?

I think he has a habit of leaking information of projects he works on. If I'm not mistaking he revealed a little of what was to happen in season two of a show he worked on and the show hadn't even gotten past the half way point of season one.

I was under the impression that it was coming to NA simply because Japan already had Final Mix, so it wouldn't make sense for them to re release it there. That would be so stupid, though SE has been pretty stupid lately. *coughFF:AlltheBravestcough* At least they're doing something smart. But Jesse... man. You're lucky you're the only one capable of playing Roxas. They would fire your ass in a minute. (excuse the expletives.)

I think the main point of the HD Remixes isn't even for the FM content but rather the chance to have people catch up on a series with too many games across too many consoles before KH3 to help its sales while also generating more fans and cash for SE.

Well maybe it's just because that's how we played it, but I think I got used to his voice being so deep for Re:CoM that it doesn't affect me in the way hearing his new voice might sounds as sora in KHFM. Maybe just the fact that his youth combined with that being the first adventure it seems way more fitting for it to be a Pre-pubescent voice. I can't explain it. I just feel it'd be best to recycle them.

The idea for Japan isn't to let them play FM, but to just eliminate the console spread issue. Same goes for NA/EU/PAL except we get the perk of finally getting the FMs.

I'm not really defending SE on that because it was probably the worst thing they've ever did, but the game was made with a bit of love at least. The sprite work is amazing, the concept was wacky and fun-sounding, and the bios they include are the most hilarious things a FF fan could lay their eyes on. If the game wasn't littered with In-App Purchases, it would have just been another silly thing to enjoy and not something everybody wants to see burn.

Would SE really fire a voice actor that does an amazing job and people adore over some pictures and a video of him making some grunts? The game is going to come out eventually and we'll see all of this stuff they are being so secretive about, so it isn't even that serious. I understand they have plans laid out ahead of time and revealing stuff early can sometimes negatively affect those plans, but fans were getting pretty agitated over the lack of localization info on this game even though the game isn't even out in Japan yet.
With how upset fans are right now over Type-0 and BDFF silence, this was definitely something pleasant that people could be anticipated about and anticipation is never bad.
It's also the sound director and whoever else was in the control room's fault as well for not stopping Jesse (and I think he was there with somebody.) They were staring right at him as he took the pictures and video.
Jesse is notorious for blabbing, though. He probably just got a reprimand, was told to not do it again, and remove the proof. If anything it should be a running gag now considering how this is the third game he's leaked via twitter.

They've specified in previous media coverage that the English voices from Final Mix will be switched back to Japanese. Also he's recording for the Days Theater Mode segment. Jesse has no lines in KHFM.

I don't see it being Spring, so yeah. SE's getting the Japanese game out just a bit before their fiscal year-end financial report in March, and Tomb Raider is also getting a March release. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is supposed to relaunch sometime during this first half of the year. That leaves the second half of the year wide open at the moment with the information given so far.
If SE wants FFXIV:ARR to be successful, they will probably put most of their attention on marketing it before its relaunch.
Their new fiscal year starts April, and the second half of the year starts in July. So anytime between July and September is the best window for Kingdom Hearts.

The PS4 will not be coming out this winter? While it's obvious the console is in development, we know nothing about it and there hasn't be an official announcement on it. Even if it's show off at this year's E3 it probably wouldn't see a release until mid to late 2014.

IGN also said that Jesse may have been referring to KHIII as as the "next chapter" from his original tweet. I'd take things they say with a grain of salt unless there are sources elsewhere backing it up.

A PS3 emulator on PS4 should realistically be a lot cheaper and work a lot better. If Sony wants to build a strong user base for the PS4, they would have to include backwards compatibility. Considering the uproar it caused with the PSV not being able to play UMDs, this would be a positive thing for the PS4.

Well, for one, it's assumed that the PS4 will work with Blu-Rays as well. This alone would make backwards compatibility a lot easier.

Aren't games in a different format? Like, it wouldn't be formatted like movie dvd's are? I think if the PS4 is able to play games on Blu-Ray, then we'd be safe to assume that it'll play PS3 games as well.

I had the feeling it had to do with some else then the disc reader. From what I read in the article you linked to it's the cpu that's problematic.
I have mixed feelings about the add-on sure it would be nice but... I kind of see them using that as an excuse not to even try and make their things directly backwards compatible. Also it's an opportunity to "screw" us over by making an add-on peripheral for each gen, so basically you could need to have two of them to play both PS2 and PS3 games on the PS4. There's also a chance these peripherals won't work with the next gen PS5 and we'd have to get the add-on again.
But if they make it so that you only need one and that you could use it even with the in the far future PS5 that would be nice.
People think this could come out during the summer time?! WHY? 95% of the game is already translated. There is no reason that this should take more than one or two months to be localized.

It was because they could continue to sell PS2 units. They were already cheap to produce, and obviously they only JUST stop producing them in Japan. They were definitely still going strong.

Kind of filling in the blanks for those who haven't played the game? Cause I don't remember them fighting a lizard Heartless in any of the videos... Just near the end of the game or in Wonderland.
Sorry for the questions... I love Kingdom Hearts, but there is so much out there that if you miss even a little bit, you have quite a daunting task before you to get caught up.

In that case: I thought that was obvious. The Darkside, Roxas and Xion fighting each other in Halloween Town, Roxas fighting Saix.
Those battle sounds were... sexual.

Yeah it was just common sense, I couldn't see them making such a long movie and just leave out such important set pieces.

Thanks for posting this. KH fans love Jesse so really if anybody can sign this, it'd be fantastic.
Even though this is confirmed for an US release, it still doesnt confirm one thing, will the HD KH1 be the Final Mix or the original we got?

It'd just be more work for them to remove the FM elements from the game. Seems to guarantee the FMs' overseas release through the HD remasters.
Now I'm excited to see all of the things they say when they release the press release for this game. It will be such a joy to see the bullet point "Enjoy the Final Mix content that was only available in Japan!"
Final Mix should be included for the US release, c'mon it's been almost 11 years that we've been missing out on Final Mix. Not all of us had credit cards back then to have Final Mix imported here.

I believe it is the Playstation conference Sony is holding in NYC on Feb. 20th...not 100% sure but that's at least what I think it might be >_<
Actually they're different. Destination Playstation is an conference that Sony holds every year (this is their 13th) to show off their releases for the year.
It's possible that we may see KHHD there, maybe at least a glimpse of a tiny clip somewhere in a flashy montage? Not really expecting anything but you never know!
