The latest instalment in the Kingdom Hearts series will be on smart phone systems later this year. Kingdom Hearts Unchained Key will be available on iOS and Android systems.
Tetsuya Nomura first stated that a smart phone game for Kingdom Hearts would be announced soon. After a leak by Square Enix Germany, it was rumoured that the smart phone game might be a port of Kingdom Hearts x[Chi]. KHInsider started the hashtag "#ChitotheWest" to try and raise awareness for the game and in hopes that Square Enix would translate and open it up to a wider audience.
Today, Esuteru and Gamestalk announced that the game will be coming to Japan. The game is described as "Your player's avatar goes along gathering Lux (light) as a Keyblade Wielder.", which follows the basic plot of PC Browser game Kingdom Hearts x [Chi].
Goldpanner has kindly translated the tweet from htmk73 and Aibo which has some more information:
'Kingdom Hearts Unchained Key' for iOS/Android, scheduled to release 2015, free to play (with in-app purchasable items), the gameplay of 'Kingdom Hearts Key' remade for smartphones, setup for the plot has also been prepared for this newest title in the series. (@htmk73)
It seems that Kingdom Hearts x[Chi] is being revamped for smart phones and will feature new plot elements! It is unknown yet if it will be coming to the rest of the world but after the success of Final Fantasy: Record Keeper and other Square Enix smart phone titles, it seems highly likely.

This is all convenient timing too for SE having released their financials earlier which indicated how well mobile has done for them so surely there will be confirmation later along with the usual slides of their next financial year in releases.

I'm kinda curious about this part honestly. So the mobile version will be different from the browser version? I'm also wondering if it'll have some connection to the browser version. Like collecting Lux on the mobile will also grant you Lux on the browser, such things. We'll just have to see when it's released!

Makes sense. I suppose it also could mean that the game and story is told differently due to the way it plays, but still is the same. At least, I assume the mobile version plays differently from the browser.

Not exactly what I hoped for (only Japanese release at first, only iOS & Android) but let's see what comes out of it currently. If it's singleplayer only we could also play the adventures of Ephemera.
I'm actually very happy about this announcement. This is the only game I haven't played in the series and I was hoping it would come to mobile!

I'm honest when I say that I do not really know what to make of this.
Not only because I do not even own a smartphone, but mainly because it seems they're falling back into old much criticized habits and spread entries out over myriads of platforms again.

I do have a Samsung Galaxy Light sitting on my computer right now, so this doesn't bother me as much. Tho it DOESN'T have a big screen. I had to go smartphone when my gran died b/c plain old dumb cell phones, at least in the US, are more expensive than a smartphone. I don't know if that's the case where you are though. ^^

Heh, indeed I never touched anything starting with i..et cetera, although I think I do have a tablet lying around somewhere in my cupboard, although I didn't even set it up yet since I don't need it for anything.
My mobile phone is indeed a model that even still has normal buttons, since I do not use it for anything but actual phone calls, SMS and the occassional photo.
Therefore, mobile phones are really low on my priority list and I will only change to a new one if the battery is so old it cannot be properly recharged anymore.

While I didn't know about that one, it actually doesn't surprise me one bit since nowadays many people seem to be often so downright addicted to these devices that they can't even take their eyes off the screen while walking outside or when sitting in a restaurant while having company. It's apparently already so bad the Swiss police felt compelled to make a drastic television commercial about the dangers, lol.
Money to fund other projects is also a valid thing, although it might be smarter to use stand-alone projects for that since I recall the complaints about KH being so inaccessible due to platform-spread had just started to subside somewhat after both I.5 and II.5 have been released.

It appears to be a variation or a port I think. I feel like perhaps their biggest intention was to get Chi overseas similarly to Re:coded.

Given they finally have the entire series finally on 1 console (except Chi), I don't see this as a stepback since I don't see any form of Chi (besides cutscenes before KH3 or attached to any future games) being put on PS3, Chi is just not a game that works well on a full-fledged system unless it went through a complete overhaul since the game itself is more similar to that of a tablet or free-to-play game.
Them capitalizing on the app games craze is just smart business, so I wouldn't view it as them starting to re-spread their games out, I would only say that if they release the next KH game on something entirely different again making it hard to keep up. I see it as them releasing Chi on the smartest, most accessible platform for most people since I don't see a Chi game being made for PS3. I can see them summarizing the game though for people who can't play the phone game.
Now that we have PC, phone and console titles, they should introduce a "one account to rule them all" system to unlock extra features across all titles with online compatibility, sort of bring kh mobile back but better and with a purpose rather than "hurr durr I'm Mickey friggin mouse with a buster sword"

Well nothing is confirmed but I'd like to think they wouldn't leave 3D hung out to dry before KH3 comes in 2017. It'd be a waste of epic proportions not to have a 3D Remix come out.

We do still have proof that they've been working on 3D HD (and no amount of "lol we were just doing HD tests" will convince me otherwise), but as of now, we still don't have any official confirmations. Will still be keeping an eye out in Chi for any other clues~
Can't help but wonder if these "new plot elements" are Nomura retooling the beginning of the plot, or the plot in general. When chi first came out, Nomura himself said it wouldn't have much bearing on the overall plot, but now as we know, that isn't the case. Either that, or maybe some familiar worlds will be put in that weren't available in Chi.
Either way, pretty excited, though I do feel bad for those who do not possess the means of playing it.
Maybe there is hope, with, you know, III dropping on xbone and everything and all windows will run on 10 OS so maybe there is hope for me yet
Chu; there are some Android emulators out there so maybe you could play it on PC (it might suck to do that depending on the touch controls but you could do it). Google 'em; there's a couple that are free.

But the company she'd gotten the family cell phones with had given her a way too expensive plan for what she paid for keeping up 4 phones :/. We switched companies after she died because of that. Since my dumb phone was so old, I had to get a new one or no phone...Unfortunately that meant a smart phone for cost reasons (Why do they make you pay 3 times as much for a old, dumb just make calls cell is beyond me.). I went with android tho I don't mind apple devices b/c Android is less expensive than a iphone. Haven't been sorry. ^^ (If I want something apple, I'll get me a ipod touch or a ipad, not a phone lol!)

I'm guessing Unchained Key will be fairly different (or different enough) from chi and is not just a remade port since it's not being called Re: chi. Might put more focus on story.
Not really sure how I feel about this announcement. While I'm happy there's a good chance we'll be getting it over here, hearing that there'll be new story stuff suddenly has me all "ugh, no more things I don't have that I have to pay attention to." Granted we don't even know what Unchained looks like yet, so I may just be bummed over nothing.

I thought it was strange that the day SQ DE leaked the image, Japanese sites posted more information about it the day after. Most smartphone games tend to have international releases right?
Now the gameplay, I imagine it could work as an endless runner, and that would be simple, but what would he spectacular is if it was like twewy on ipad, i would love that.

Vulpes is my gut choice because foxes are my favorite animals.
But I'm a heavy believer in the reincarnation theory of the Foretellers and the idea that Unicornis is Riku and Anguis is Aqua which makes me want to choose one of those two because they're my favorite characters.

I was in Vulpes when I played the PC version and had fun, but I might go to Unicornis or Anguis for the same reasons as Taochan xD

Don't forget DDD, that's also not on the same console (yet), although one can't deny that it did become quite somewhat easier with the remasters.
I still remember the times when it was originally stated that Chi would be only superficially related to the main series, but it seems like Nomura is incapable of having an entry in the series/franchise not closely related with the main overaching plot. *ggg*
Nah, I didn't mean it from a technical viewpoint nor from a business one. Both of these parts of the whole issue make total sense, yet most fans do not really pay attention to these viewpoints.
Coded was also a phone game first and certainly not the most accessible, lol.
To be frank though I do not see any further KH game made for PS3. The PS3 is losing momentum and support much more quickly than the PS2 did so I would expect any further remasters/remakes or whatever KH-related they plan to be made for PS4/XboxOne, also in light of KH III eventually being on those platforms.

If I would be in the situation that a "normal" mobile phone is significantly more expensive than a smartphone I would probably also choose to buy one.
It's not like I have an aversion or something against these devices, but considering what I use my mobile device for I probably would simply use it just like a normal mobile phone. Internet access would be turned off altogether 99% of the time because I simply see no point in going online while out on the way.

Those bottom pics really do look a lot smoother and more appealing than the cards. I don't know who Nomura has been talking to (besides you guys lol) but I thought that DDD has been almost universally accepted by the fan base gameplay wise, and its one of the longer games in the series. The game would be great on it's own but if they'd like to add extra content I'd be more than willing to accommodate it ;)

The cards are actually the updated models. The ones below them are the renders in DDD before it got scaled down to the 3DS' resolution (which is pretty low if I remember).
And it's not so much as putting extra content in to the game for a release, but a "we don't feel confident in releasing this alone". FFX came with X-2. Type-0 came with FFXV. I don't even have to go into the KH's because you should know what came in those. Square only feels comfortable selling these HD remasters if they contain more than one game or a demo :)

While it is definitely not concrete proof, it does seem highly unlikely that they would create new models just to put them on a few cards.
The Nomura interview also confirms at least that there were tests made...hmm, yep, I'd say that while I remain sceptic, I'll count the probability that there will be something eventually much higher than before.

In-game purchases in Chi right now are fairly standard to be perfectly honest. You could use it to purchase more items to recharge your energy to act, though it recharges fairly quickly on it's own anyways and the items can be obtained easily through missions. Or you can use them to purchase card draw tickets for a higher chance to obtain more powerful cards, but you could also obtain similar tickets through missions as well.
They exist, but they're not necessary to advance. Many of the other players on KHI are doing tremendously well without ever spending a penny.
I don't anticipate the ones in Unchained Keys to be much different.

Honestly the language barrier was tedious, like it wasn't too bad but I just wasn't willing to spend that much time for Chi. Smartphone will also make this way more convenient.

Doesn't help. I in fact also dislike the DS screens. Most games I play dont use the second screen beyond an item or status screen.

The struggle is so real for me right now with which one I'm going to choose.
When I was first reading this, I was starting to panic that it was a new game entirely... (something we really don't need, as it would just muddle the story even more before III).
Glad to see that it's just a remake of Chi! And I'm very, very excited for it indeed:D

I'm a bit unsure why they decided to change the name of the game, though (that may cause some confusion for casuals), but whatever: this is a happy day and I AM very happy right now. ^_^

Welp, time to update my iPhone 3GS
I was in Vulpes when I played the PC version and had fun, but I might go to Unicornis or Anguis for the same reasons as Taochan xD
Honestly I don't personally care what faction I'm on (I have my preferences sure, but KH has taught me friendship > than all) so everyone on KHi should try to focus on certain factions (I get it if you can't since you're like deathly afraid of snakes or allergic to unicorns or something) but we should try to stay on the same faction. For a long time we had a really amazing KHi Chi team going, THIS MUST BE RECREATED BUT ON THE GO!!!!

2) I don't even think a DDDHD needs to be included in an HD pack. Like others have said, if they just put in a small KH3 demo, BAM! IT PRINTS MONEY!!!!!!

How would we be able to answer this? It's not even confirmed to be coming to PS4.
If you mean other games as examples, it depends. Some have separate lists (sound shapes), others share (race the sun, FFX|X-2)
(In an unrelated note: Ursus' emblem reminds me of Higashizawa, Leopardos' makes me think of Konishi, and Anguis of Kitaniji xD)
I'll definitely be joining Anguis. I have always liked snakes (specially cobras; I like how they look like superior snakes and I've always been a fan of the Cobra Unit from GI Joe, lol). And like I said before: Anguis reminds me of Megumi Kitaniji, so that's ANOTHER REASON I'll be joining the Anguis Union (even though Aqua is theorized to be the reborn Foreteller Anguis; not that I don't like her, just that I like Terra, Ventus and Riku better).

Here comes my Aqua bias being like "oh heeell naaaw." In all seriouness though, I'd be fine with Unicornis, whatever faction works for me since in the end, the faction really determines little besides who is in the cutscenes. I'd rather be with people I know than see the foreteller in a few cutscenes :)

lol Obviously I do not expect anyone to answer this from the point of having the KH game on the PS4, I don't think it's all that likely, so there is no way I can possible expect someone to have the game. If someone does have the game...STOP HOLDING OUT ON US!
I mean, as you said, other games that have been ported but are the exact same game, not a remix or an remaster, etc. But I didn't know some have separate lists, good to know :) Since FFX-2 shares, which is SE, that is a good sign. Not a confirmation, but good sign.

Square Enix has been porting social smartphone games to the Vita very often these last few years so never say never.

I doubt it would be released this week. If it was, then the hype train will be short lived XD.
On a side note, I hope not all of you guys from KHI stray away from the Vulpes Union when Unchained come out. I 've always enjoyed finding english pals when ever I play.

The original thread was created mostly thanks to the wretched search features in the original KHX, so I suppose it depends on both the needs of the game, the capabilities of its search features, and the interest of the community.

Even if Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ features a better search system, posting a master thread for Unchained χ would be a good formality. And it's better, seeing a show users can find each other over here and chat through VMs or PMs whenever they want to do something over at Unchained.
