To be serious, I've never been sure why the ESRB ever cited it in their Birth By Sleep rating review back in 2010. Oh no! This fantasy character's breasts move in a natural, subtle manner! Honestly, I'd have never noticed it.



If there is no jiggle, there is still Terra's unobstructed underarmor suit-clad rear.

I'm not sure why they site or censor the things they do. It's almost like they aren't even sure themselves.

And frankly, I prefer Braig/Xigbar's crosshair in the Western versions. Feels more consistent with the game's aesthetic.

I don't know, I thought by removing the sword in Jack's chest it ruined the fact they were trying to mimic the scene from the film.

In this case I disagree. These games are the same as they were originally, the only additions are graphic updating and coders movie. There's nothing to be overly proactive about here because it's already known what the game contain.
They're simply going a bit overboard, at least with the scene of axel fading, guns and cross hairs.

Oh, ESRB thingy, why couldn't you have said "There's some zombies that shoot guns and a dieing guy on fire." I'm a little worried these things will once again be censored for no reason.

I don't agree with the ESRB's reasoning or the fact they have so much control over content, but I should note that it is not the same people who review these games. They are a group of trained staff chosen at random so whoever reviewed 2.5 is not likely to have reviewed 2, BBS, or Re:coded and, without having prior knowledge of Kingdom Hearts, would not know what was and wasn't in the game.

We as fans might know, but it should be expected that the ESRB does not as it is their job to objectively review and rate in order to better inform consumers & parents.

The ESRB cannot be lenient on any game, regardless if it has been on the market before or not, and will almost always err to the conservative side.

What we think does not matter in this case.

By magical armor they mean Lingering Sentiment right? For some reason that made me laugh. And the egg part really confused me for a second. I thought "when are eggs ever fired in KH?" xD

I still disagree with the notion about how proactive they are with the games. Kids see far worse on tv when their not playing a KH game.
Though I also say that because I find what they chose to censor stupid.

Jack having a sword through his chest I can understand, that is a bit graphic, but censoring the pirates 1700's era guns, which no ones gonna notice will playing the game, or the cross hairs of Xigbar's rifle (or even his rifle itself) is just dumb.

Xigbars combined weapon doesn't even look like anything needing censored. x[

Then there's Axel's death scene. I fail to see how editing out his flame takes away from seeing him literally fade into nothing. We both know that is just a dumb censorship right there.

I doesn't matter but I think it should because the things they chose to edit with KH just makes them look like random amateurs or parents they pulled of the street.

Then there's the things they miss.

KH2 is the most heavily censored game in the series, but I will 5ever be amused that a group of people specifically looking for these things missed all the panty shots of an underaged girl but slapped a "Suggestive Themes" warning BbS because of some incredibly mild jiggle physics involving adults that probably weren't even intended to be fanservice and most people didn't notice.

Though to be fair, Square was really sneaky with the former so...

I've never understood how an adult woman jiggling, slightly at that in some scenes, is suggestive myself. That'd be like rating BBS Teen or something because of Terra's tightly clad armor ass.

You have a misconception of how the ESRB is given information of the games. It is the publisher that gives the ESRB the materials they are to rate. The ESRB gives them a questionnaire to fill out which is pretty much a list of things that they put that could potentially bump the rating up to something. After that, the publisher creates a DVD containing shots of the most "explicit" materials in the game and the ESRB reviews that. After the "Hot Coffee" thing, they also require devs to show them hidden content and stuff left in the code as well as long as it could potentially effect the rating of the game.

The point is that if the publisher doesn't give it to the ESRB, they don't know about it. The panties thing wouldn't have been caught by anybody until people just so happened to try and look through Kairi's model anyways. And since it is not an actual panty-shot since she neither moves in a way that allows you to see them in any cutscene, it is irrelevant.

So, no, those trained people you find "silly" are not silly. They are doing a job which does not include playing through the game and walking into models to see if they are wearing underwear.

I hate the ESRB but they don't actually see everything in a game. They don't even usually play them unless a big amount of attention is brought to the game by the public, or if the review board has issues agreeing on a rating and need additional material to review.



I'm more surprised they didn't cite the whole Aqua-being-kind-of-choked-by-Terranort thing as being overly aggressive.

You actually can see them in a few cutscenes though, but very briefly. Either way, they're probably scenes that the ESRB were never given since nothing of "interest" happens in those scenes per se.

I'm sorry but that still comes off as silly because that still means someone is finding things like crosshairs "explicit" or saying Axels' flame is explicit while him fading away without the flame apparently isnt.
No matter how you look at it the things censored in KH2 are just stilly and make the people that picked what to censor silly.

I wish I could remember the tone of the media in 2010. Was that the year there was just an overall emphasis on sex in media and people were going nuts? That might be why.

Hey, I don't disagree that the ESRB themselves are a group of idiots. I'm just saying they are doing a job and their job does not cover some of the things you were making fun of them for.

The ESRB was ridiculously insane in 2006, due to all of the regulation and lobbying surrounding video game violence during the time. The fact is that today, they really aren't all that psycho and we have better odds of getting what we want.

But there is a point where the ESRB's job is important and if they find a burning man to be explicit, the game company isn't going to argue against them and the audience certainly has no control in their decision. If we don't get a burning Axel or crosshairs, it's not something we can rally to be fixed.

It's probably not so much for fan service than it is a program to make the characters less rigid so that they don't bob around awkwardly like mannequins (or so, that how I understand it. /not vidya geam program savvy). You know, like in those fan made MMDs? Either way, It was enough to get BbS slapped with a "Mild Sexual Themes" or something or other warning, although that's now being forgotten about in 2.5.

It's worth noting the ESRB does not play the video games they rate. They get video presentations of games that they rate.

Yes, I stated that in my post to Anagram. They do play them once they are released, sometimes. And they are likely to play if they cannot reach a consensus on a rating.

I wasn't making fun of them I was being serious, I find their choices dumb and silly in the KH series.
Their job is important, never said it wasn't, but that doesn't mean everything they edit is right or explicit either.

Then hopefully your right and they aren't as dumb in what they choose to censor this time however I have no faith in them on it.

I think the Chicken Little thing is actually baseballs rather than eggs. It makes more sense for his character.

Anyway, this is just more issues with privatized ratings boards. I'm willing to bet the average age of those members is....well, I don't want to generalize. But the fact of the matter remains that some of these people are overly concerned, and the organization lacks the actual organization skills or whatever to the point where a previous reviewer is not consulted when reviewing a rerelease, which makes for inconsistency.

I think that Kingdom Hearts II and (maybe) Birth by Sleep should be rated T for Teen, I mean PoC is not a kid movie for sure, and BbS just doesn't seem a game for kids.. In my opinion the only KH games that are for everyone are Kingdom Hearts I and re:coded..
