Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Features Capes on the Armour!

One of the most requested additions for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX in the lead up to it's Japanese release was the addition of capes to the armour. The capes, which were originally meant to be in the original PSP game, were removed and it seemed all hope was lost to ever see the capes in action.
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, the capes are absent once more for the majority of the game. That is, until the final moments of Terra's story.
Revealed in a flounce of style at the end of Terra's story, the development team put the cape on the armour to bridge the end of Birth by Sleep to the secret battle in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix. No doubt some fans will be excited to see the cape make it's triumphant return, but some fans will be sad to learn the team didn't put the cape to more use.

It was honestly one of the most stylish reveals I've ever seen.

Ok, the way the cape materializes all of a sudden is so random. Makes the capes on TAV seem non canon now :/

Welp. That answers my question in the other thread. I was hoping the cape would appear upon the animation of the Lingering Will, but it sprouts after the fight... either way I suppose it raises more questions (that probably won't be answered), but that's okay.
I kindof dig it.

Okay, seeing the cape just...sprout from the back looks kinda silly. XD
Though, now it makes it look like they all did have the capes to begin with, but just chose to not have them out. I'm cool with that.

Having Terra playable while wearing the cape would be really tricky for the programmers. Making it appear at the end in a cutscene is much more manageable.

GEXUS terra eyes turning yellow in the movie its showing us that his gone be possessed by xehanort thats why there showing us his eyes turn yellow all of the sudden doesnt mean he can turn his eyes yellow

How the hell is it not a magical cape? The entire suit of armor is contained in a magic arm band and keeps you safe from the darkness...AND SPACE.

How the hell is it not a magical cape? The entire suit of armor is contained in a magic arm band and keeps you safe from the darkness...AND SPACE.

I understand why they did it, but from a storytelling aspect it raises eyebrows. But it can all be chalked up to tempermental, non-sensical magic so whatever.

I was seriously not expecting this, not even in my wildest dreams. I'm laughing at how it POPS out (still super cool).
Too bad they couldn't do it for the entire game to match the opening where everyone has their capes BUT this is a fantastic compromise.

When I first watched the video, I didn't think it was real because of how awkward it looked despite knowing it was. It just reminded me of those MMD videos people make haha.
And it just pops out for no reason. "Time to sleep? MAGICAL CAPE TIME!"

I'm pretty sure the fight has always been canon. Actually I believe all 3 major fights (Unknown, Lingering Will, Unknown 3D) are canon.

The Unkown in KHFM has always been canon, but I don't think that any other secret boss is. But they might be making Lingering Will canon now with the addition of the cape.

But isn't the fight still inconsistent? Lingering Will stops on that piece of land that MX rose up but in KH2 FM it looks like you fight him in the area that you fight Vanitas with Ven and Mickey.

That wouldn't really fit an outfit for combat. You don't have a cape stuffed up in there because it can limit mobility and what comfort you can get in a suit of armor. The hole is––and I checked––there to allow the armor to move with the back muscles. There is just no room for a cape to fit anywhere there and so the magical armor can burst forth a magical cape from where all magical things come from.

I was watching this while I had the II.5 ReMIX version of "The Thirteenth Struggle" when that cape popped out...
What little seriousness that I could have even tried to grasp was long gone at that point. XD
EDIT: Even so, I am glad that they at least listened and added in at least one scene with the cape. I just wished they had the time and wherewithal to do more with it.

That was the widely accepted translation of the armor's name. "Lingering Sentiment" "Lingering Thought" and "Lingering Will" were all correct to the Japanese term "留まりし思念" but Sentiment was the one people preferred to use.
Same goes for Enigmatic Man who ended up being "Mysterious Man" and Enigmatic/Mysterious Figure who ended up being "Unknown"

Even if it did mess with the terrain it probably would've caused it to crumble and the armor wouldn't have stayed in that position.

Now that I see it in GIF form it looks nice when the cape is fully out and flowing but it looks pretty bad when it first comes out since it looks like it's coming out of nowhere. xD

The Kingdom Hearts games give us stories filled with Disney magic, Square Enix fanservice, and convoluted plots. Of course we'll deify the epicness of cape. ;)

MF is canon though. Might just be one, might be all three, but he did go back to the Land of Departure to fight TAV.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Young Master Xehanort battle with at least one of the trio was considered canon. Mind you, that was on the TV Tropes character sheets page, so the authenticity of that could be questionable.
Of course, with the whole, "I HAZ TIME TRAVEL POWAS NOW! Neener neener neener!" aspect from Dream Drop Distance, it's not too much of a stretch to have him fight all three at different times as you already pointed out.

I think I heard it was Ven somewhere, but I am certainly NOT a reliable source.
Well given Terra's story I think we can safely rule him out as the one to have fought MF. He left as LoD was being destroyed and with what just happened to Eraqus, Terra's hatred for MX, and the possible danger to Aqua and Ven I don't see Terra making a return trip to LoD immediately after leaving it when the object of his focus is in the Keyblade Graveyard.
Aqua and Ven though I could see going back to inspect, Aqua especially after learning Eraqus has fallen. Though the whole state of the area and the sky of the area the MF is fought in still makes me iffy.
Granted the area MF is fought in is obviously a good distance from the actual castle the sky being fine seems off to me when it's still all dark and gloom when Aqua returns in the final episode and changes it all to Castle Oblivion.

Oh dog this is too much for my tired brains :D The cape just needs a TADAAH fanfare.
I just wonder what were they thinking, adding the cape lake that. Why they didn't make it appear more gracefully? Now it just awkwardly pops up out of nowhere, without any explanation. Like "Okay I'm just going to lay here with my cape, Imma make it a tent" *setting up a camping site*
Don't get me wrong, the cape is cool and all, but the way it appears is just... D:
I think it's odd, but freakin' cool.
I like to think that the cape pops out because Terra has overcome his worst enemy, a sort of sign of redemption in his regards and the more I see the scene, the more I think of Batman. lol

Without Terra's body, Lingering Will/Terra's Mind/Will is becoming the new batman.

Likely a last minute thing they tossed in because all fans ever talk about are the capes. It could have did with a sparkle effect and a flash of light, definitely.
It's still super awesome xD this will fuel many of us for weeks.

I was thinking this as well. I mean, KH certainly has NO shortage of sparkle effects.

That actually is very symbolic now that I think about it. A sign that he is now on the right path and is ready for when the worlds need him again.
