According to hokanko-alt @ livedoor blog, this week's issue of Famitsu Weekly contains some more information regarding KINGDOM HEARTS 1.5 HD Re:Mix via Co-Director Tai Yasue, the highlight of which reveals that the game is around 80-90% completed! This is wonderful news, considering it's anticipate release is estimated to be around early 2013.
It also reported that the development team is currently looking into incorporating special features as post-game content. Whatever it is however, it will not be a secret ending.

---Moving on from that, with you working on the Kingdom Hearts series under Mr. Nomura, which title left the deepest impression on you?
Yasue: Birth by Sleep. It was like being in a dream. We packed in everything under the sun, so the busy period was hell (laughs). That said, having produced the remake title Re:Chain of Memories before that meant my team understood the series and things went along with the groundwork having been laid, and 3D was an important title that 'connected to the future of the series', so I have strong memories of all the titles.

Yasue: I do everything I can to create something fun. I want to make games that are packed with a particular characteristic style. I think that the 'energy' I felt playing FFVII is important. With our recent titles it has been difficult to leave wiggle room because it always comes at a cost, but everyone on my team is highly motivated to incorporate new gameplay, so that's an area we attack without pulling any punches. When we get obsessed with an interesting idea, we get so wrapped up in it that we even lose our appetite for food and sleep. I want to always relish that feeling with my fellow staff.

A HD remastering of three titles from the series. Among them, one title has been remade as a video volume. When we asked Mr. Yasue about development progress, he said 'Development is at about 80~90%. For this title we have been updating character and scenery textures as well as the controls. Right now we are considering some small element to add as a perk for clearing the game.'

Yeah, seems about right. I mean, it's not like it would take that much time just to remaster the game in HD and tweak the controls a bit. I'm sure most of its production was spent on the Days part.

I know it seems far fetched but it is seeming like we will see something Versus related in Q1 2013, and what better way than to show it to people who are most likely to buy it (KH fans)? What else would they add? Too much effort to make a brand new boss, too much effort to really make any changes to the game that aren't gameplay tweaks, etc.
That would seem like a let down to the people who work to unlock a trailer about a game they might not care about.

It'd be interestingly hilarious if they did that considering the last trailer was in 2011. I don't think they will, though. It's been some years since SE's put a trailer of a game in another game if I remember correctly.

The main thing that I forgot to add is actually that Kingdom Hearts Final Mix had a trailer for Final Fantasy X-2. That's been out for some time now, so it would be strange to keep it in there. It makes sense that they would replace it, especially if it is a game by the same development team.

Well, FF X had a trailer for KH. KH FM has a trailer for FF X-2. I think Dragon Quest had a trailer for FFXII.
It's not uncommon, it just feels unlikely.
Well the only things (plausible and implausible) I can think of for KH HD additions after the game is done are:
1. Trailer for 2.5
2. New Boss Battle idk who
3. Post-game challenges for trophies
4. Rare chance of a Versus trailer
5. Even rarer chance of a FFX HD trailer (this is where SE points a finger out with a wink saying "Bet you forgot all about that ;D" and everybody shouts "NO.")

Yeah, like that. A similar feature was in KH3D as Link Portals (Secret Portals) for all bosses. It is very challenging and very fun, especially if you were the type to overlevel and fought bosses normally with relative ease the first time around

SE has tried with some last games to be faster in localisation, so I would estimate that if we're lucky and get a release date for Japan (let's say, March 2013) we can hopefully root for a western release (US, AUS and EU) four months later.

I tend to be more skeptic in these things, only a two month-gap would be a very pleasant surprise though. ;)
On the other hand, the English stuff for most of the games already exists, so only the new FM-cutscenes (there weren't that many in KH1 FM) and the Days-stuff would need new voice-acting.
So maybe a two and a half-month-gap is more realistic at least for US-release, for EU they would need some additional time to do all the translating at least for French and German.
Then there's of course the fact Re: CoM never came to Europe, requiring more translations on that part and that the original KH 1 had (as far as I know) even at least French and German voices back in the day.

After all the bitching and ranting that went far beyond righteous anger in the blogs and forums of SE (and even at SE NA, which didn't got anything to do with it) I would doubt they would do any extra effort again, but in the end for at least translating the texts I guess depends on if they got decent translators again and if it would be profitable enough for them.
I'm also doubtful if they will do a German and French voice overs again, as only KH 1 and 2 ever had that and the other games are all only available with English voices. So for the sake of consistency (and saving money) I would expect Square to not re-do the voice overs in languages other than English again.

Play-asia would be your best bet. Okami Zekkeiban (Asian Version) was only $45. Blu-ray PS3 games are region free and shipping is usually free or cheap. As for the language barrier, everything will be in Japanese.

I cannot speak for most other European countries, but in Germany it is mandatory in school. During the times I went to school we started learning English at grade 5 (which corresponds to 10-11 years of age) while nowadays I think kids learn English around here even at grade 2 or 3.

That the in-game texts are translated into the languages of the bigger EU-countries is actually an established procedure, at least for France, Germany, Italy and Spain (that's why there was such an uproar about DDD only getting French and German texts.)
Dissidia Duodecim is one of the few titles that remained for a good chunk in English (except dialogue) even here in Germany.
I do agree though that voice-overs in more than English are overkill nowadays.

I was only expecting around a 60% finish around now because I was expecting a spring Japanese release at best. Close to 90%?!?!? YAY!!!!! I would think that since essentially it is an adaptation of a game that already existed when Disney had the relevant rights to use Tarzan, that they would be allowed to use it. This is a good thing, although it's making me anxious that it's getting so close and they still haven't announced foreign release dates for any of us. I actually had a dream the other day that me and my sister were in a bizarre gamestore (for no reason that I could remember??) and we picked up a copy.

They don't need to get the rights anew because the Tarzan world in KH 1 is fine. At the time KH 1 was made, they had the rights so it can be used again.

KH3D having the message in the game is clue enough this is going to hit our shores.
Final Mix content is not "new material" because it has already been in a released game already, and Tarzan material is still only the first film as it was used in the NA/EU version. FM content didn't add anything to that.

A bit off topic but I think you're wrong. Releasing it for the PSP would be anything but a risk. Assuming they don't want to spend any time porting it to the PSV, they will most likely release it as a physical limited collector's edition for the PSP and then promote the game as a downloadable title for the PSV, which oddly enough could end up being a killer app for that console.

But that doesn't really make my suggestion any less valid. Releasing a very limited run of physical copies for the PSP and then promote it as a digital PSP game for the PSV would be a fairly good option. By far the best one they have at this point, unless they are willing to port it to the PSV with a higher resolution which would obviously mean more promotion in Japan as well. If they've already spent money on translating and dubbing it, they've got very little to lose by at least releasing it digitally outside of Asia.
But Square Enix's lack of support for the PSV in general is rather odd considering how many games they put out for the PSP! They were one of the main reasons why the PSP eventually became a success here in Europe. Of course, Sony is doing a really bad job at promoting the console. It would be nice to have a PSV version of DDD and maybe even the HD collection released for it.

The big problem here, imo, is that with so much new technology available everyone has become waaay too obsessed with photo realistic graphics. Kingdom Hearts is easy to produce in the sense that it doesn't require as much detail. And it still works, because you don't need super mega awesome graphics to make a game look nice, especially not if the AD is good (like in Okami). The PSV is more than capable of handling old school 2D or cartoon-ish KH/Dissidia style graphics. But of course, every game that doesn't demonstrate the graphical power of a console usually ends up being a digital only release without any promotion to speak of these days. That's really sad. It's one of the reasons why I appreciate KH so much.

I personally think Nomura has become somewhat of a joke. Which is sad because I like his illustrations and I love Kingdom Hearts, but I can't wait for the series to end. I know that many fans are saddened by the fact that Sora's journey will eventually have to come to an end and will gladly play these games to prolong the experience, but I would rather see it go out with a big bang before it's too late. People in general are already starting to lose interest in the series because there are so many minor games with rehashed content out already. And don't give me the "but they're all important for the story!11!!" argument, because Nomura could easily have written the story differently from the very start and planned ahead to make three major games instead of scattering out on various handhelds. Maybe it builds up the hype for Kingdom Hearts 3 in Japan, but I think it has the opposite effect in the western world.

Except that we already know that after they release the 1.5 HD Mix (and 2.5) that the next title will be KHIII (and probably on the ps3 unless 4 is out and about by that time). The online game has already been announced and it not a part of The Seeker of Darkness chronicle.
The big problem here, imo, is that with so much new technology available everyone has become waaay too obsessed with photo realistic graphics. You're largely right, but they still have to deal with the fact that previous KH games havent quite met the visual sophistocation of the movies they're based off of. I'm not saying I want photorealism-I'm ususally the first to say that photoreal=/=good, but there is a little more work required than what you imply here. I keep trying to tell people that, even with comparisons, and yet people keep ignoring me for some reason in that topic. KH doesnt need a completely reinvented art style, but the evidence is there-in the movies and in DVD art galleries-that it would best make use of PS3 capabilities with more retooling than what 1.5 is getting. Only hard parts I see are the original worlds and the original characters, which admittedly we all care about more, but have yet to see how that would work. FMV style wont work for all worlds after all.
And to reply to your other post, I see your point completely, but there's not much rehashing and the "minor games"-some of them arent even remotely minor and they've completely changed the direction of the story overall; they're just on portable platforms with less merchandising.
I don't think anyone has to worry about Tarzan or about there not being a Western release.
Yeah. Since the game and voice acting was already established, Square Enix is free to do whatever they want with them now as long as it's not used for newer property. e.g. KH Final Mix

That remains unknown. It'd be great if it was made like a movie, but I have this inkling it will be made like cutscenes and you have the option to watch them all in one go.

I sort of agree. Most people on here won't say anything because they're blinded. We all know the past few games haven't been excellent persay (except for BBSFM). For all the bellyaching about how awful the series has become, the state the franchise is currently in, rants about raging, delusional, blinded fanboys who believe everything about Kingdom Hearts is great with no flaws what so ever and can't handle criticism, there an equally amazing amount of condescending banshees screeching the same old tired meme about how the original installment is still the best, how the other installments suck, how everyone else is in denial or just a fanboy for not sharing their views, and more tired cries of when the third installment is coming out. I just came to realization that III won't be out for a long time. So far, there has been no development on it (yet) and even if there was, making these games usually take some time to produce (years), especially now that KH is going to PS3.
Yeah, looks like 1.5 and 2.5 are the only numbered games will seeing at this point. I expect III to come out in when I'm in my mid to late 20s.

It not entering development until 2011 is the point. They've procrastinated on/delayed Versus way too much. It was unveiled over six years ago, around when KH2 came out stateside. It didn't enter full production until 2011, five years later. Square shouldn't have announced Versus if it was going to take this long. If they had waited to announce Versus until today, it'd still be too early, because they have barely anything to show for it.

But digressions aside with 1.5 approximately 80-90% complete it should come out fairly early next year. It took about 2 years to get to this stage so can we assume 2.5 will it take just as long? There are several ways I think it's development can go.

Well considering that within the next 2 to 3 years we'll be in our mid 20s, yeah it'll come out when we're in our mid 20s. I don't see what's so bad about that tough.
