The English version of the final trailer for KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has finally released! Check it out below:
The wait for new KINGDOM HEARTS chapters is almost over! Sora and Riku begin to prepare for their final battle against Master Xehanort. Aqua struggles to survive against the deceptions and terrors of the Dark World. The mysterious foretellers are threatened by a traitor within that will lead to the devastating Keyblade War.

Okay at this point I have to think the MoM is Braig....I don't know how or why but this guy just screams Braig more and more with every scene. I swear this time I've seen Braig do those exact same shrugging motions and everything.

I'm starting to believe that Aqua and Terra really are there while Ventus isn't.
I didn't notice it before. But, the person has a 4 hour gameplay time by the time they're at the Magic Mirror. Seems pretty substantial.

Ventus might be there just as much as Terra (apparition from his heart) but since Ventus' heart is still dormant, his apparition is also comatose.

But unlike Terra, Ventus heart shouldn't be in the RoD, Vanitas theory aside.
Maybe they are just projections? Kind of like dream selves generated by their hearts while they sleep. Ven being comatose because he is still super damaged and thus even his projection is still in a coma but his friends needing him is causing him to project subconsciously?
Or maybe that's not really Ven? Xehanort in DDD has reached a stage of BS where he knows almost everything that has transpired. Maybe someone or something could've kept track of Aqua for Geezenort.
I just dont see why Xehanort should try to trick Aqua here?

If the actions of 2.8 are also during KH1 then a part of Ventus recovering heart could be in the RoD. When Sora released Kairi's heart he created Roxas and Namine. Before his body returned (remembering time acts differently in the RoD), Ventus in a recovering mood could have appeared in the RoD.

Terra is real Ven is not and upon realizing Ven is fake then Aqua explains to Terra about where she hid Ven, about the chamber of waking in Castle Oblivion. Terranort then reveals himself as having been eavesdropping on her, takes Terra away and Aqua is left alone in the dark. Terranort then builds the chamber of sleep to be prison for Terra, who was there all along we just can't see. Thus how Xehanort learned of the chamber, learned how that is where Ven is, and why he visits the chamber to talk. After Xehanort steals away her friends, she's revealed Ven's location to Xehanort, and she's left all alone that's when all hope for her seems lost she drops her wayfinder and BOOM Mickey appears. This kicks off the final segment where Mickey and Aqua travel through destiny islands and she helps Mickey find the kingdom key D but something happens in the end and they get split off leaving Aqua alone.
Sora's "I'm back" sounded pretty bad to me.

He might not be omniscient, but he's a genius who predicted the entire Mark of Mastery plan in DDD, and that was no time travelling knowledge.
He isn't worried because if he didn't saw something coming, neither did his opponents, that's for sure.

Yeah, there seems to be some connection between them. I hope at that part MoM is speaking because it would rather debunk MoM being evil. Could this also mean Aqua knows MoM during Birth by Sleep?
I'm more curious about the fact that Aqua heard that phrase from someone else. She must clearly mean Eraqus. And where did Eraqus heard it from...? His master? Or what if Audo's theory of Eraqus being from the KHx era be true...?
That aside, I have to agree with Sora looking ugly, though he looks well in KH3.
Or maybe its an old Keybearer saying? Like I said in the other thread, it could be the KH equivalent of "May the Force be with you."

implication I got was that it's a phrase that's been used from generation to generation, Mickey learned it from Yen Sid, Aqua learned it from Eraqus, and they learned it from their respective masters. It's a nice bit of lore building imo. And I read one post in either this thread or the one for the original non-English version of the trailer speculating that it will be the KH-equivalent of "May the force be with you"

Hmm, maybe not that odd. As others here mentioned it is very possible that she heard that from Eraqus. Since that saying seems to be from the X-era around the time of the war, it`s likely that it`s just surviving tradition from that era. Eraqus could have learned that from his master(or from a another source), that master from his master and etc... the phrases from the book of Prophecies still live on so why not an old saying. It`s interesting to note that the saying seems to have held it`s original form and not have changed with all these years.

As some people said in the other thread, I don't know quite how I feel about the customization for Aqua. It's cool, but does feel out of place. Now that I see this trailer, I can't help but wonder, is that Jason Dohring back as Terra? He sounds a bit different, but I can't tell.

Same. Everything about him reminds me of Braig/Xigbar, and they definitely use similar body language and mannerisms.

I hate Nomura for doing a tease using a screenshot of Unchained X. I contemplated staying up until 2am to see what it would be but figured it would just be disappointing and prioritised sleep over that.
In the end I'm just glad we all got a new trailer with gorgeous visuals, enticing gameplay, deep story, and character customisation yes yes yes!!!! Lemme wear Marie's ears while I walk around in Cruella's coat. Lemme dress Sora up in Herc's toga while Donald wears Elsa's dress and Goofy is wearing Robin Hood's hat and Boo's monster costume.
so im surprised no one seems to be talking about the fact that it seems luxu is actually at bbs-era Keyblade Graveyard (MX was the one who created those mountain/pillars was he not?) or that the Keyblade Graveyard is also shown in the 0.2 section with a shot not from the opening.

It is somewhat odd, but I assumed actually that shot is from the x-era and not from BBS. There are countless hearts floating up (the small glittering things) and on the far left I spotted the X-blade floating in the sky, all things that weren't in BBS proper.
On the other hand though, we know that a Keyblade can exist in two places at once and while Master Xehanort/Terra-Xehanort used the blade in BBS' finale it is thus not impossible that Luxu could be standing there watching the events of BBS unfold.
The implications of that are vast though and one more unsettling than the other.
The Graveyard being shown in 0.2 is no surprise though as that is the place where Aqua's whole predicament started and where she "failed" to save Ventus from getting his heart shattered a second time and technically also "failed" to save Terra from Xehanort (the actual final Terra-Xehanort battle in Final Episode took place in RG but the events at KG were the start of the whole thing).
I think it's KHx era Graveyard. Like Seph mentioned, we have hearts floating towards KH. Yes, we can see pillars, but I think there were pillars anyways even before BBS. Hell, I think this is actually referenced when we get to the Graveyard. You press the check button and someone makes a remark along the lines of "it must have taken a powerful wielder to do something like this".
while it's possible that nomura overlooked this, mx most definitely created the pillars underneath kingdom hearts.

There are multiple pillars throughout the graveyard though, who can say if it's the same exact pillar Xehanort created.

You have a point, but like kira said, perhaps they arne't fighting in the same location. Though if we're to judge the Graveyard from the KHx final battle, then most of the areas are just flat or huge cliffs, no pillars, so perhaps you're unto something, Audo.

Wasn't the "pillar" in BBS more of a plateau though and much wider? I remember Terra and MX having quite some room to whizz around during their battles up there.
Kingdom Hearts does not necessarily have to be at the exact same location though.

Or the memories/phantoms/mirages of Ventus-Vanitas and Terra-Xehanort shown in the opening are not solely a throwback/interpretation to the events of BBS but Aqua's actual "final bosses" for 0.2 as a whole and that happens in a fascimile of the Graveyard?

I'm starting to think maybe the MoM created the Foretellers and sees them like pets like with Chirithy in a way. I would think the alpha chirithy probably went with the MoM.

It seems that it might be a sign of affection, like parents will sometimes do that with their kids. But they could really easily be artificial beings, with the Organization XIII making Xion and all. But maybe, that Alpha Chirithy is our Chirithy. As it recalls an event like that...But now I question what the MoM has in that suitcase of his...

It has been said that the MoM is a quirky kind of guy, he does have nicknames for Ira and Aced. Might just be another quirk of his, though I do have to wonder how the "all wielders have a Chirithy" thing from X works if the MoM supposedly created all of them.

I think that's the same suitcase from today's trailer, back in the TGS one. Looks like Luxu/MoM have been carrying it around for some time.

The green sparkles look fantastic, but the way her dress crinkles like that really reminds me of the PS2/3 era with the lines instead of flowing dress material (is it lack of polygons? I really should learn the game dev terms) and I'm sad.

May I also point out how good this scene looks.
The lighting is spot on and the models finally look like they are part of this generation.
Also props to them for the gorgeous environments. If someone had shown me this image out of context I would have assumed it were from the CGI ending of KH2.

To illustrate my point about the shadows. It is shameful to see this kind of choppy modeling in this day and age to be honest.
Moreover, the rest of his colors are flat. There are very minute details that can be added with proper lighting and shadows, and also texturing, all of which is missing from this model. The flat grey color doesn't do it any favours imo.

I get what you mean. Invi, Ava and Gula won't actually start to constantly work together (since that would not work with the ultimate end of the free for all Keyblade slaughter that MUST happen since it is already history).
Yet it certainly looks like in that shot they're jointly opposing Aced, making it at least a temporary alliance.
Except of course if their positions indicate that only Ava and Gula actually are on the same "side" with Invi and Aced being on their own, making this a three way issue.
Their battle stances are also somewhat interesting as Invi is the only one depicting an offensive stance with her blade high and pointed at the opponent.
Ava is deploying a defensive low-guard stance that allows her to quickly block any horizontal strike while easily sidestepping a vertical blow and immediately counter by stabbing the opponent upwards with her blade from below. Gula has a very defensive mid-guard stance that's ideal to protect all possible parts and angles of his body since he needs very little time to move his blade in all directions.

I actually rewatched the trailer now and it seems to me like Aced and Invi were fighting against each other at first, with Gula spectating them. Maybe he steps in, after that Ava sees what's happening and she steps in as well (as we see her summon her Keyblade last, while the others already had theirs, ready to attack)

It's funny you mention Ira being the distant one when in the personality descriptions of Famitsu and Dengeki it is Gula who is described as the "lone wolf" who likes to keep to himself which is also shown with him often hanging around in that warehouse instead of the Foreteller castle.
It is true though that in general there seem to be rarely more than two Foretellers together in one scene, so maybe except for the occasional meetings in the "conference room" in the castle they do not come together often at all.
This situation here might thus actually be an exception.

That might be because he's preparing to get into his battle stance too (or outright attack immediately since he's so hot-blooded and berserker-like).
Then of course it is also possible that he already fought Ira beforehand and the other three are confronting him about that. Just because his battle with Invi was the first seen from the perspective of the Player and Skuld doesn't mean that it was actually the first time he fought another Foreteller.

Certainly a possibility since them all being set up is still highly likely. I'm still not even ruling out the possibility that each of them becomes "the traitor" at a certain point during the time period X[chi]/Back Cover takes place in without knowing in some fashion and once things get so sour one of them perceives the situation as having become unsalvageable he/she becomes "the traitor" willingly trying to bring about the end of the world.

Initially, I thought it was a lightning issue. But presently, it looks like they're having texture issues. I find it weird that they're being VERY detailed in the CGI opening, but not so in-game.

For whatever reason, I'm not finding Terra's shading to be odd. (textures aside). Why is there no shadow by his sleeves? Because his entire sure is just spandex. It's always been tight on his skin. Even in the CG opening there, you can see it's not just a regular shirt like Sora or Ven's.
As for the textures, either they're missing OR the lighting in this musty scene does them bad justice. I'm almost certain everything in these scenes have texture, they just aren't as pronounced as the openings. Take for example, Aqua's sleeves or Mickey's gloves that 100% have textures on them, but in some lighting they look bad or non-existent.
The CG cutscenes have more dynamic lighting, a look it seems they weren't able to replicate in game. (The people who make the opening and the people who make the game aren't really the same team, correct?)
Did anyone else notice the pause/status menu? It was briefly shown after the character customization clip they showed. A few interesting things about the menu. (I'll edit in a screenshot later).
- bottom left corner displays play time, and difficulty. (And not munny)
- Aqua was at level 57 (not sure if that's a place holder, but I can only assume this means level 99 will be obtainable)
- top right corner displayed location - I think it was "A Dark World", or just "Dark World"
- then of course you've got the basics, such as config, customization, story (instead of journal?)
Just thought the menu looked nice, and had some nice little tid bits of information. Admittedly, I do have some regrets watching this trailer, as it did feel very full of spoilers. But my excitement is at an all time high. I personally don't care for the character customization, but it still an interesting idea for Kingdom Hearts, the rest of the trailer, including Back Cover looks really good, and intriguing.

I know it's a solo journey and she won't meet anyone but there could be a few side quests like finding documents and stuff. Look at the spandex in the CG cutscene though. Every kind of material, as tight as it may be on your skin, does not lie completely flat, it will always be slightly raised. The CG opening pronounces this effect much more than the in-game cutscene.
More about textures, even his suspender/strap things are missing the leather texture. The shoulder armor - where is the rusted metal? Could this be an incomplete model?

Secondly, in a small throwback to Master Spockanort's "Hourglass" contemplations about the six colored background assets in the Young Xehanort battle in DDD at the sanctum of time, take a look at the six test tubes behind the hand ripping out the lost page.
Not only are there exactly six just like the hourglasses, the colors also match with orange (gluttony), blue (either lust or sloth), green (envy), red (wrath), yellow (greed) and violet (pride) all being present, the seventh missing color (light blue or cyan, representing either lust or sloth) is also the same as the one missing among the hourglasses!
The real question is: why is the page not double printed??

So my unsupported theory is that when Sora goes to the Realm of Sleep to thank his Dream Eaters, he meets Chirithy who then narrates the tale of Back Cover to him. It'd just be a small detail that would help bridge the gap between the present story with the past.

honestly, i still prefer the top one. like, don't get me wrong, i can totally see how the bottom is impressive and the level of detailing is impressive and all of that. but i honestly just prefer the art style of the top one. it's the kind of thing i wanted kh3 to be like, and what they were aiming for -- for the game to feel like a living disney animation. that's not really there in the bottom one. the bottom one looks like it could be from pretty much any game, it's not as unique. and despite nomura and company saying that they didn't want to aim to simply replicate the graphics of the cgi KH cutscenes, that's essentially what has happened with unreal kh3. like that destiny islands looks just like the destiny islands from the 3d opening, and one on level that is obviously impressive, no doubt about it, but it's not really what i wanted from kh3 or what they were originally aiming for. personally, i'm always going to wish the game was still going for its luminous art style aspirations. though i am happy with what we are getting, too.

so im surprised no one seems to be talking about the fact that it seems luxu is actually at bbs-era Keyblade Graveyard (MX was the one who created those mountain/pillars was he not?) or that the Keyblade Graveyard is also shown in the 0.2 section with a shot not from the opening.
also should point out that the luxu shot happens in a series of fast shots of 0.2.

The Luxu shot is in the 0.2 shots. Combine that with the blue-tinted Keyblade Graveyard and I am utterly convinced that the Luxu shot is from 0.2. Whether it's part of Aqua's immediate story or if maybe it's scenes from a secret ending, I'm not sure, but I definitely think it's not from BC.

It was before CoD was officially unveiled for Chi, i believe lol. ED was my main reason for believing it would just because of the whole secret ending shit in Chi <3
I love how it looks like in just a short amount of time we get to fight a lot of bosses.
So far we know that we have at least two versions of the Devil Wave to fight (Castle of Dreams and Destiny Islands). Then we have Mirror Aqua in Dwarf Woodlands and the Darkside in Enchanted Dominion.
There's also potential bosses in Terranort and whatever picks Ventus up (provided it's not another Darkside). Please let it be be a sign that KH3 worlds will have more than two bosses in them.

The last trailers from Square for any game always spoil.
honestly, i still prefer the top one. like, don't get me wrong, i can totally see how the bottom is impressive and the level of detailing is impressive and all of that. but i honestly just prefer the art style of the top one. it's the kind of thing i wanted kh3 to be like, and what they were aiming for -- for the game to feel like a living Disney animation.
Thing is though, this Destiny Islands that's shown is clearly Kingdom Hearts 1 Destiny Islands that was present in The End of The World. That's why it's so dark and gritty. Square Enix can easily achieve the top art style with Unreal Engine 4, it's just that it's not supposed to be entirely "bright and beautiful" in the context of 0.2 Birth by Sleep.
my problem was not that it was "dark and gritty" instead of "bright and beautiful". they're completely different art styles. one that looks like living animation, and one that has hyper-detailed environments that bends towards realism.
um i wouldn't say that i mean i know the sora scene might be the ending but there might be more after it

and yeah, i feel spoiled, lol, or, at the very least, i think 0.2 would be more rewarding if i went in blind. but it's really my own fault for watching the trailer.
Looking back at the customization...kinda glad it isn't really in-depth.Seems you can only color Aqua's sash/straps/arms.
I know full well i wouldn't be able to stop myself from making some ugly ass color combinations if i could color her torso/legs too.
I really hope these customizations are carried forward to cutscenes, like equipped Keyblades and Sora's Drive Forms are.

I doubt we've been spoiled on the final boss either. Just what tops the Darkside family reunion?
I kinda think that 0.2 and also 3 will be full with bosses in comparison. Or let's say I hope so. Even if there were some "smaller" bosses in the other games, most of them were boring, but what I've seen from 0.2 so far was promising.
