Jump Festa 2014, taking place at at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan from December 21st-22nd, is home to a variety of Japanese anime, manga, and video game previews that no fan should ever miss. This year we are lucky enough to get the chance to see a great line-up of announced games from Square Enix, and hopefully there will be a few surprises along the way.
Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- will be shown off at Jump Festa 2014 with a brand-new trailer and a demo of the high definition remaster collection at the Square Enix booth. Fans in attendance will get to experience:
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix:
- Halloween Town
- Beast's Castle
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix:
- Castle of Dreams (Ventus)
- Radiant Garden (Aqua)
- Enchanted Dominion (Terra)
For those of us unable to attend the event, the new Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- trailer will be streamed on NicoNico Live between 12:45 - 14:25 Japan Time on Saturday, will get an encore showing from 11:30 - 12:55 JT on Sunday. You must have a NicoNico Douga account to be able to view the live programs.
Other games to appear alongside Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- include Bravely Default: For the Sequel, Bravely Second, Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy VI for smartphones, Dragon Quest VIII, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, and more. And while there is no announcement of Kingdom Hearts III's inclusion at the event, many fans do hope to see it along with Final Fantasy XV and who knows what could happen during these two days.

I hope it's not sinful of me to find the huge Slime more enticing than 2.5's booth. :P But still, for some reason, I love the white-themed signboard with Sora and Roxas on either side.

That blue "blob" on the second screenshot actually reminds me of Monsieur, the spirit from the springs of myst in the .hack// games, lol.
As a fan of the Dragon Quest series, that slime gets me excited every time!
The 2.5 signboard also looks really cool, if they made a poster for that I would be throwing my money at it.

It's a slime, which is to Enix just like how chocobo is to Square. I heard that chances are when you show a picture of one to Japanese people and ask what it is, they will be able to answer that it's a slime.

"Coming 2014" is what I can make out.
That's my guess as well, which is likely considering the 2-like curve eclipsed by that guy's head.

I thought that, considering this is a Japanese event, they might have a release window or even the date. You can see it on FFX/X-2's board, although that one was posted before Jump Festa. Obviously I'm not expecting the Western release announcement until early next year. I was hoping that maybe they were planning to give the release date here and so they already had it on the board too.

That's how I felt when 1.5 was announced. To finally be able to play KHFM in English was a long-time dream come true... and right now it's double the excitement since both KH2FM and BbSFM are going to be there.
I just want to fight the AS fights and Roxas, BBS FM, maybe fight No Heart. But very excited.

It pretty much followed the same structure as the Jump Festa trailer for 1.5. That didn't really show too much off other than the graphical improvements either.

In KH2, chests are opened with the triangle button, while in BbS, if I remember correctly, the action button (X for English release, circle for Japanese). That's what came across my mind.
The Triangle button in BBS activated commands. That's why it was the X button that was used.
They couldn't have changed that around so triangle in bbs opened a chest. Right now we're waiting for clarification (if we get any)

Just signed into KHI and saw the trailer, I wanna watch it a couple more times before i have an opinion on it though i missed the stream though TBH after reading this thread about the abomination that was the comment section of that stream I'm glad i didn't have to witness the burden of other fans influences. I'm gonna go back to watching this trailer several more times.
If i see Gameplay then i can finally decide how well the remaster has be remastered. Not really bothered that much by it, it's not like e haven't seen it all before.
Just keep in mind that we didn't see much at all. And with no concrete release date, they might still be doing work on it. When we see it again, it'll probably be different.

Getting a feel of how BBS would play on a console has been my greatest anticipation for this game (since it's the only handheld game that will be playable on the ps3) and I'm glad to hear it doesn't feel strange.

There's also a book that's slightly resting on another book and all you can see if the word "by" and if the full title is "birth by sleep" then Nomura, I bow down to you shoving your game titles and stuff into this game.

Eh. We had English screens that were taken from debug stages and released right up until 1.5's English release. The infamous "no card deck" and "only command is magic" screenshots come to mind :')

That's my guess. I assume the top pictures are probably what PSP res BBS would look like on PS3, whereas bottom is 1080p BBS. Hooray for HD.

Even with the headphones, it's very difficult to focus on the music with all the ambient noise outside. I'm not sure if we'll be able to get a confirmation from someone's impressions unless they were able to get a private demo.

anyways, we don't know when they started working on 2.5, but there being no release date yet isn't really concerning. Now, if it is the middle of 2014 with no release date, then it is time to worry. They will probably announce it two or three months before release so no worries.

LOOOL. BBS in HD looks just like it appeared in the pre-launch advertisements.
PSP had a 480x272 resolution. This size:
The image Chaser posted is 600x675. If the screenshots were separate they'd be about 600x335. So yeah, the before picture being very blurry compared to the original PSP screenshots is because it's stretched to match the newer 'HD' screenshot, which isn't HD so is also presumably scaled down to be postable on the forums.
Promotional images are always shopped. But these aren't just the old promotional BBS images from 2009 and 2010. It looks much better.
I thought the blurry was weird, so I looked up a youtube video of someone playing through the game, and it actually did look the same amount of blurry.

And the "HD" part of the images aren't promotional images from SE. They're taken from a HD version of the trailer and uploaded to Twitter so it's using the compression of twitter images.
As you can see, the column behind Ventus is missing in this part of the trailer as well, and even in the shitty stream quality of the trailer, you can still read "ultimania".
I can't wait to go to the Keyblade Graveyard and see all the dead keyblades in better detail.

There were no changes to the controls for KH2. That would be because KH1 FM HD was adjusted to be closer to KH2… However, and I would say this was due to this being a test play, you couldn't change party members and you were set to one world (the boxes for the options showed a question mark). You were limited to being able to play in Beast's Castle (vs Shadow Stalker/Dark Thorn) and Halloween Town (entering Christmas Town until vs Prison Keeper). As for Beast's Castle… I was like, oh, so despite this being the FM, I can't use dodge roll… great timing... Or maybe I should say, oh yeah, so KH2 was when dodge roll became a reaction command… ...Yes, I hit square button to dodge. Guilty as charged. Sora didn't do anything except block. I burst out laughing. Shadow Stalker's attacks are basically the kind you avoid and the target comes up, but the one that gets you from below that you can't escape by jumping made me want to cry. You couldn't avoid it without having Valor or something on! Come on!! Then there was the Dark Thorn, where I was like, spamming reaction commands~ and there was Beast, where I was like, whoa he's cool~ (!?). I finished the rest off relatively quickly. I'm sorry… Wait, why am I apologising!! The shortcut button assignments made me cry for a whole other reason: beautiful lies. I've forgotten exactly what they were but I'll just say this. There was no cure there was no thunder X button was set to potion… (´・ω・`) As for Halloween Town, you could use summons, and there were limit forms (though you'd think there wouldn't be since you're walking around normally), which pretty much felt like a prank. It was pretty easy to collect drive orbs to recover points (it's a small thing but I didn't mind) so, apart from the first time I played through seriously, I was basically just messing around. Just when I thought, I'll go check out the factory! That's when it decided to show up in the plaza… Sorry for not visiting, Santa. With my summons, form changing (although I didn't turn antiform, I guess I didn't do it enough times), and normal style of play, I fought the Prison Keeper. ...Oh yeah, and then there was that. Exploding from shock thanks to my attacks not hittingkjvdl When the point is to mess around you're screwed if they make you strategise attacks!! That ate up so much of my time. Also, I normally set X button to cure, so it took me an astoundingly long time to memorise the shortcuts (square to cura, X to thundara). You can change these, I wanted to change them!! For BbS, since there are now more LR buttons and another analogue stick, they've adjusted the controls for locking on the camera. It's also more like KH2. However, they haven't changed circle being used to open treasure chests in BbS, so if you play it right after KH2, be careful not to mess up and accidentally end up using a command. You were able to play Terra in Enchanted Dominion (vs Wheel Master), Ven in Castle of Dreams (collecting the materials until vs Lucifer), and Aqua in Radiant Garden (fighting alongside King Mickey until vs Trinity Armour). By the way, the only D Links they had were 'the two characters not currently being played out of Terra, Aqua and Ven' (there was nothing listed on the menu though). Even so, there wasn't really any situations where Aqua was useful... Terra only had a boss battle so he went relatively quickly. Or maybe I should say, I had muscle memory on how to play as him, which made me smile, lolll To make matters worse, for some reason the Shotlock he had equipped was Ultima Cannon. Depending on how you did in Lock, that thing could take out over half its HP in one hit… lol So, basically, it was over pretty fast. It was amazingly fun, but… Terra, I'm sorry for everything. (I'm talking about calling you Mister Slidey…) Ven was the standard to choose first in the BbS test play. He balances on that ball and does other fun things, so he's an easy choice. ...So, it should have just been easy going, but I ended up wandering around. I missed the hole leading to the top of the dresser and went back to the start, the standard stuff! *Cries* Somehow I ran out of time before I got to Lucifer, so I did it again, and crushed Lucifer on my third try. The reaction commands were pretty important, but I'm impatient. So impatient! Aqua was mainly focused on the joint fight part. You can only use D Link when chasing the Trinity Armour piece. Fighting with King Mickey was extremely fun but my attacks not hitting the Archravens made me want to cry… (´・ω・`) Get back here you jerks. Usually I can defeat the Trinity Armour quicker, but… thanks to the fixed commands, that didn't happen. I heard her scream twice. I definitely thought the level was too high. Halfway through I noticed the command level could still rise, and right to the end I crushed everything with no continues. Even so, my potions managed to disappear... Anyway, D Link. Your links didn't get stronger (forgetting Terra, where there were no D Link Prizes to pick up to begin with). (As Ven you were one piece short on Terra's icon, and as Aqua they were unfillable.) But, I did look for Prizes during normal battles in case something happened. I know as Ven I heard the sound of picking up the Prizes for sure. For some reason, as Aqua, there was no sound. ...Whether my controller stand was faulty or they forgot to put it in or they didn't think of it is a mystery, but I got impatient thinking they disappeared without me collecting them for a second... (；´・ω・`) It had been a while since I'd played either game, so for a second I forgot the controls (like in Beast's Castle), but I definitely found it a lot of fun. Also, the graphics are truly beautiful, I got so excited. I wanted to touch the Santa pom poms…!! The BGM was just the same… or so I thought, I'm interested in whether it will get rearranged sometime after this. |

No mentions about how the Shotlock is activated, hm? I take it that it's the same button combination, holding two of the shoulder buttons at the same time. My guess is L1 and R1.
And so, I see that the earlier comment regarding chest opening mechanism didn't actually mean anything after all... there seems to be no change in how chests are opened in KH2FM and BbSFM, judging from the statement that warned you not to mix them up.

I wouldn't say desaturated, exactly, but I get what you mean. The non-remastered version seems to have a yellowish-greenish overtone to it, which is made more neutral in the remastered version. It indeed led to a more natural look, and yep, I prefer it that way as well.

Nothing big, actually. It probably is just an oversight. Disregarding the colour and quality differences between the two versions, it makes for quite neat a spot-the-difference material, but not as neat as Ventus' Keyblade comparison in Olympus Coliseum.

Yes. It was one of those things that made me desperately wish BBS wasn't on PSP just because that part was supposed to be so cool and it was so blatant how poor those keyblades looked all together like that when they were pixely and paper thin.

I can agree with the latter part, alright. It looked like TAV were running about carrying Keyblades made of cardboard cuts. I'm glad they worked on it for 2.5 and gave the Keyblades, at the very least Ventus' though I'm sure everything else gets the same treatment, actual depth or thickness.

I like to think that they just haven't mentioned multiplayer yet. And hoo boy, when (or if, if you want to play it safe) they finally do, I think a certain someone here needs to be restrained so as not to jump too high and bust the roof.

I'm not going to write it off. There's been no mention of Mirage Arena or it's functions, so I would think if the online capabilities we wished for were actually cemented in 2.5, they'd state it in a different press release, which seems appropriate anyways.
They haven't even given us a list of the features, updates, and additions yet, so yeah. If they were going to do MA Online, they'd probably state it as a standalone announcement (since it is big enough of an addition to have its own) or it'd be listed when they start to reveal what they've done for the remaster.
When we first got the list, it was from online Japanese retailers, then awhile later they updated the 1.5 website to list stuff.
Yeah, I'm assuming that if online is a feature, they're going to save it for later to announce it since that is a big selling point among many of us here and many people who played BbS who weren't able to utilize the Ad-Hoc Party features since they also had to own a PS3.

I can't wait for KH2's remastered soundtrack; due to space issues, that game had a lower quality sound sample library, so to hear a live performance of all these songs will be a magical experience~
idk the fishface is pretty strong in that first screen. and even in the last batch with the bbs trio sitting on the ledge, where the original had no fishface and 2.5's did.
Yeah, these seem to check out; just keep in mind, people, that if a screenshot seems too good to be true, your suspicion is probably correct. i'll never forget that I.5 image with riku and maleficent they really got my hopes up with that one and they could've actually done it too :c

Riku's theme deserves it the most for being one of the best themes in this series.

Live orchestration for 2.5's KH2FM is among the topmost of my must-see list, or in this case, must-listen. After hearing what they have done with 1.5's reorchestrated soundtrack (that guitar riff in Bustin' Up on the Beach still lingers in my head), I have really high hopes that I'm quite sure they will be able to satisfy for most of the pieces.
Boy, I'm really looking forward to listen to all four of Twilight Town's tracks in the fullness of their reorchestrated glory.

When I first heard this I thought, "Riku has become a badass".
Whe I was little and played KH II I always wanted a big brother like him...
Someday Riku will be a senile old man, and have vietnam-esque war flashbacks about darkness and Ansem.

I don't understand why X|X-2 HD and LRFF would get massive screens and KH only ever gets these tiny compressed jpgs though. So weird.
I'm really looking forward to XIIIth Struggle, it's my favorite song in the KH series thus far. IDK even know how they could make it any better, but I have faith in Shimomoura :)

Not really. FF is their best selling franchise. It's what saved them all those years ago. It brought them back from rock bottom. It's their baby. I mean look at the X remaster. They've changed everything inluding the menu and UI. They didn't do that for KH.

Er, screenshot resolutions =/= success. Sign means why is the same company releasing small screens for one game and large ones for another. It's inconsistent. Even Eidos games get big HQ press screens, but Kingdom Hearts gets shrunk down screenshots.

I was saying as to how they treat their franchise as a whole. IMO they put way more work in the X remaster than they did with KH I.5.

Added new gameplay mechanics to 1.5, redid all of the music of the first game, rebuilt a DS game into 3D that goes for 3 hours, added a skip cutscene button to KH1, upgraded the character models, added new clear bonuses to Re:CoM.
FFX|X-2 had upgraded character models and textures, re-done menus, and 60 remixed songs that most people hate. That's about it. Not even a skip cutscene feature.

I haven't played the game before so I don't know from experience, but the comparison screenshots showed that Square significantly overhauled the model and environment textures throughout the game (they replaced them with new ones). KH never received that kind of treatment. Not that this is a bad thing, since KH looked much better than X because of the art style.

Only took about 20 seconds to load on my computer and it paused at times but it was worth it! Not to mention that the video was so large I couldn't even see the whole thing on my screen :) It was beautiful though!!!!

We would love to give you a direct feed, however we don't have our own video program, so we have to fall back onto Youtube hosting all of our videos. Square Enix falls back on youtube because of the convenience.
