John Vignocchi Comments on Kingdom Hearts in Disney Infinity

Disney/Pixar's Inside Out is one of the new Playsets for Disney Infinity 3.0!
Back in December 2014, we posted an article about the potential scenario of Kingdom Hearts characters joining the Disney Infinity roster. This came about from a comment on their forums from an official moderator;
In April 2015, another moderator said that the suggestion for Kingdom Hearts figures have been passed along, stating that it has been a very popular suggestion among the community.
At the start of June, GameInformer closed off their month of exclusive Disney Infinity 3.0 coverage with a special interview with John Vignocchi, which you can listen to here (around 37 minutes). GameInformer took in questions from their readers, and one of the questions asked in a rapid-fire section was about Kingdom Hearts characters for Disney Infinity. With the options of possible, slim chance, or impossible, Mr. Vignocchi was asked;

If I remember correctly, there's at least 10 figures that haven't been revealed yet for Disney Infinity 3.0
While I am not into Disney Infinity myself, I do know that it is a huge money maker and Disney loves money, lol.
The KH original characters are owned by Disney anyways, so there's literally nothing substantial that should actually prevent KH characters from being made as figures if they want to do so.
I would buy the figurines even though I have absolutely no intention on playing the game ;A;

This! Though...Ninja Theory and United Front working on the gameplay for 3.0 has really pushed me to thinking about playing.

That is very true, but I'm sure asking Square Enix (and Nomura, specifically) would be more about being respectful of their opinion.
(Secretly I want Nomura to design the figures with his underused adorable style bar the weird :3 face he's been doing lately)
With Disney Infinity being as popular as it is, it'd be good marketing for Kingdom Hearts if they had figures for it.
If this happened, I'd definitely buy the figures despite having little interest in the actual game.

Is it bad I forgot about that? KH3 is coming so it'd definitely be the perfect opportunity to promote them.

doesn't sound like the KH version of Mickey is in the pipeline, unless the guy's deliberately trolling.
On the upside DI seems to release a new Mickey figure every year: sorcerer Mickey in 1.0, crystal Sorcerer Mickey in 2.0, & now plain old vanilla Mickey in 3.0. If that's a trend then they're probably wanting another style of Mickey for 4.0 & beyond. Musketeer Mickey as a standalone figure seems unlikely since Musketeer Donald was a power disc (in fact, this year's Mickey getting a similar disc seems very likely) & I doubt Disney's gonna touch Epic Mickey with a 10 foot pole at this point. So what does that leave them with? :)
Since I love DI, it'd be great to se the Kingdom Hearts Series in DI! No matter if DI 3, 4, 5 or whatever.
I just want at least one Original KH-Character. That would be pretty fabulous. ~
I would definitely buy them as collectibles. I never played DI before but I always thought the figures looked neat. Hopefully if they release KH ones they'll include a Xemnas one and maybe a few Heartless figures.

Mickey is such a tiny guy that aerials make him fun to play as. A grounded mouse might as well be a regular mouse.
If this is thing, take my money, all of it. Now I got bigger reason to pick up Disney Infinity.
My brother plays these games, this would be incentive for me to get 3.0 but regardless I'd still buy them and the tron figures haha

Definitely Riku. He's one of the most popular characters so he has to be in the game

I am open to anything if it involves my beloved admired characters of the Kingdom Hearts series. Disney Infinity... I played the games some, particularly the avengers addition, but the gameplay story and stuff is much too short. It kinda takes a lot of fun out of the game. But I did enjoy flying through Manhattan as Ironman. I have actually tried to imagine what Sora, or any other characters from KH would look like as a charcter in Infinity. I'm not sure about what I pictured, but to play as Sora is beyond worth it! So yeah, I'm excited to see if this happens. Now, there is one exception to making KH characters that would not please me at all,can't that would be if Sora, Riku, Kairi and ect. characters were to be voiced with anyone other than the individuals who usually provide their voices. In other words, if they couldn't get HJO to be the voice Sora, and went with someone else... No! I wouldn't hear of it! That character could never be Sora, not anywhere near it.
So as far as my preferences go, no matter how plastic-like they end up looking, as long as they have their original voices we've come to know and love for our favorite characters, I will be getting them all, no doubt!
I love to hear KH is becoming more known to other players out there. Haha, unless these requests are coming from long time fans in the khinsider community. That's very possible, too, right? Lol
O, yeah. This is cool to hear KH being noted as "possible." I hope if they are able to they just stay true to the characters of KH, and it should turn out good.
It occurs to me that while we may not get a big blowout KH this year, we may get a KH related unlockable. Buying all of the 1.0 figures unlocked a lightsaber in that game. The award for all figures in 2.0 was the landspeeder. Since 3.0 is all about Star Wars from the get go, it doesn't make any sense for the final secret unlockable to be another Star Wars thing but there should still be some sort of reward for getting every character if only for tradition's sake. Since the theme seems to be an instantly recognizable object from a franchise that's not yet present in DI, I've narrowed it down to 2 possibilities:
A. Sora's keyblade
B. Indy's whip
& since we're probably still a long ways off from a new Indiana Jones film, I doubt Disney would start dropping hints for it quite this early. Ergo, Keyblade in 3.0, foreshadowing a bigger KH presence in the future.
PS Unless there's another really huge Disney property that doesn't yet have a presence in DI, but I can't of anything that fits the bill.
I definitely would not be oppose to Kingdom Hearts in Disney Infinity.
It may take a little more convening for me to actually get the game, but I would totally get the figures!

I couldn't care less about Disney Infinity, but if they did bring the KH cast in as figurines, I would buy them without a doubt. Or I'd just be really happy knowing that KH'll get even more exposure to the general public.
disney infinity is a nugget of genius from a marketing standpoint, but from a moral standpoint it's really fucked up to make kids pay this goddamn much to play already on-disc content. Poor parents
I was actually planning on buying Disney Infinity until I found out it was like Skylanders with those overpriced amiibo things. The company's business practices regarding the game would put Crapcom to shame.

Yeah, Nomura would have to approve it first as he does all things Kingdom Hearts.
Well I'm not sure they signed off on V-Cast. & if they did, then they have no excuse for being against DI, now do they?
I'm still hoping for Sora in SSB as well. Imagine having both a DI Sora and an Amiibo Sora side by side!

They didn't, but that is because the legalese is weird enough that Disney doesn't REALLY have to ask permission. I would imagine that in later years this changed because of the fact Nomura does have character designer rights over his characters and he is the face of the franchise. Bad blood between Disney and SE over making "official" things without permission from the developers would not be beneficial to their relationship.
Designing a figure and in-game character of Sora to be featured in a hugely successful multi platform game that saved Disney Interactive without consulting Nomura would probably be a huge issue.

Well, part of the reason as to why that is the case is because of the fact that he is the character designer for the Kingdom Hearts series, so, relationships needs to be good with him if Kingdom Hearts was to expand beyond the Square Enix development.
Now that Mickey's Kingdom Hearts 2 costume and Sora's Keyblade was the premium content for 3.0, Kingdom Hearts is all the more likely to be in Disney Infinity for the later installments.
