Tai Yasue (Co-Director of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]): Kingdom Hearts 3D has the two main characters, Sora and Riku, and the player plays Sora and Riku alternating. There's the Drop gauge; the Drop gauge, when it's depleted, you actually switch characters. What we wanted to do was we wanted to integrate two separate stories into one united in a way, and so we started the Drop system. The story revolves around Sora and Riku's Mark of Mastery exam. They go to the World of Sleep and while going to these worlds, they open Keyholes. I think the story precludes Kingdom Hearts III. What we wanted to do was to make a game for the handheld and make it as if it were a console game. It's really pretty insane. There's no restrictions; you could kick off walls, slide down ramps, spin around bars. The Dream Eaters; Sora and Riku have these pet-sort-of creatures that they could take along on their journey and the player gets to create them using little stones. What that does is you could use them in battle. Kingdom Hearts 3D will be out on July 31st. |
