Phoebus

The Captain of the Guard, Phoebus was called back from the war at Frollo's request in order to aid him in the supposed battle against the gypsies that "plague" the fair city of Paris. He may be a bit hardheaded, but he has a clear concept of justice in his heart and mind, and when faced with a dilemma, will disobey orders without a second thought if it's morally unsound. Those who seek his protection come before those who aim to use his power for their personal gain. He unwillingly agrees to help Frollo to scour the city in search of the gypsies, but when it came down to it, he refused to be a part of the minister's outrageous plan, harming the young and innocent just for even being associated with the gypsies. Phoebus and Sora were first acquainted with each other when Frollo had been interrogating the boy, whose strange attire proved that he was clearly a gypsy. Seeing that this so-called gypsy was just a child, he refused, and instead directed his attention towards the monsters that were causing trouble in the Square. Sora easily took care of the problem so there was no need for Phoebus to even raise his sword, and he watched on with a smile on his face as he saw the kind Esmeralda take Quasimodo's hand and take sanctuary within Notre Dame. Unfortunately, things didn't quite go so well for Phoebus after that. By the time everyone emerged from the cathedral, he had already been dismissed from his position, injured by the rampaging Wargoyle, and embarrassed himself due to his incompetence as he saw Riku tackle these creatures far more effectively. Although he normally wouldn't let a child handle something so dangerous, he realized that if he goes himself, nothing would be accomplished. By the time Phoebus arrives at the square, Quasimodo had already saved Esmeralda from the danger of being burnt at the stake, and he leapt into the fray to help the cause as Sora and Riku dealt with the Wargoyles above and below Notre Dame. With his swift reflexes, Phoebus was able to save Quasimodo from falling to his death. Touched by his acts of kindness and overcoming his personal feelings, Quasimodo accepted the events as they were and instead, helped Esmeralda and Phoebus take the first step towards their new future together. |
