A major antagonist in Kingdom Hearts, this demonic sorceress reappears as a figment of Sora's memory in Hollow Bastion. She schemes to use Beast's and Belle's true love in order to further her dark magic, and to this end, she hatches an elaborate plot to force the couple into professing their love for each other. Although she is successful in stealing Belle's heart, even her might as a dragon is no match for the combined forces of Sora, Donald, Goofy and the Beast. Her demise reverses all her dark magic and her hold on Beast and Belle. As Riku's closest ally during his descent into evil, Maleficent plays a prominent role in Reverse/Rebirth, wherein she taunts Riku about his fate now that he has rejected light in favor of darkness. Refusing to yield to Maleficent's beliefs that he will only find company with beings who hunger for darkness, Riku makes a stand against his former mentor and kills her. This pivotal battles pushes Riku to seek redemption by destroying any dark being he encounters in the memory worlds. |
