The God of the Underworld, Hades has always been attempting to kill Hercules, the eternal thorn in his side, and thus is using the corruption of the Journal to his advantage. To further ensure victory, he tricks Cloud into helping him kill Hercules using false promises. When Cloud fails him, Hades steps in to send the heroes a one-way ticket to the Underworld, but flees upon his defeat despite his claims that the battle between him and Hercules is not over.
